Zelda BOTW is nearing its 4 years anniversary thanks to legendary great words of mouth.

For reference:

465,800 (Wii January 2010) > Switch > 319k (Wii January 2011)

PS5 is a bit harder.
Wii sold 679,200 units in January 2009.
Wii MSPR in January 2009 was $250.
Wii MSPR in January 2010 was $200.

These are estimates based in MSPR so if the Wii was heavy discounted the numbers can be a bit lower but that can be offset by the fact I'm using $400 to calc the maximum and $500 to calc the mininum.

424.500 (based in Wii January 2009 if all PS5s are DE) > PS5 > 186.320 (based in Wii January 2010 if all PS5s are standard)

I mean the number for both Switch and PS5 are really good.

Why does it say Digital sales from Nintendo eShop and not include digital sales from Nintendo eShop? That's fucking stupid.
Also, nice to see Spider-Man DLC doing well.

Nintendo does not share digital sales, CDPR does not share digital sales, Microsoft does not share digital sales for Steam, 2K does not share digital sales, Bethesda does not share digital sales (tho that will change, soon).
The rankings are back to nearly useless again.

Wow @ FOUR consecutive posts about PlayStation in a Switch thread :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Emm this is what happens when someone trys to turn a NPD thread into a Nintendo only thread with a poorly detailed OP.

BTW great result for both PS5 and Switch.
PS5 had a stronger January than PS4 in 2014 both in units and revenues (they set a record on the latter) and its seriously supply constrained so it could do much better.

Nop

January 2014 hardware sales $241 million
Ps4 ~271k at $399
Xbox One ~142k at $499
3DS ~ 96k at various price points
Ps3 ~53k at various price points
WiiU ~49k at $299/$349
360 ~40k at various price points
Vita also sold some units.

January 2020 hardware sales $319 million

Even with a $399 model and high supply constrains PS5 did great.
Best January in revenue for a console since 2009 :messenger_fire:

Dual Sense being a hit.

And PS5 is heavily supply constrained.

Low numbers for PS5 would be 235k. PS5 had the highest dollar sales since Wii in 2009, but that doesn't mean it sold on par or better. It did better than January 2010 and Wii was around 465k

Definitely agree that the OP should have all available data, not just the Nintendo stuff.

Main points that I've taken away from the result:

  • Was not expecting Switch sales to be that strong
  • Was not expecting PS5 to have that much stock
  • Legs of Modern Warfare and Ring Fit are really good. Legs for BOTW are insane
  • Immortals is doing much better than I expected
  • Great to see the whole industry being so healthy

Nintendo should thank supply constraints. If people can't get their hands on PS5 and XSX/XSS, they move to the next available option. And that portability kicks ass!!

OP you did this several times already but please do a better job with giving us all the information. It seems like your pretty selective with it and leave out data that's positive for Playstation.

Anyways I'm glad to see Sony and Nintendo doing so well. I was definitely expecting Microsoft to do a little better especially with the cheapest SKU of next gen systems.

Someone should create a general NPD thread then.

I don't think the supply constraints have much impact, Switch is just continuing the momentum it had from before next gen launched.

Or to put it another way, if PS5 supply was much worse I don't think Switch sales would have been significantly higher.

The first thread made on the NPD results tends to be the general one. Its better to have one thread on the results than different threads for each one.

Just like media create, we have one thread on Japan sales each week not one just for Nintendo's results and another for everyone else's.

I think it's clear this thread is about the best selling hardware in January, not NPD, as people are getting upset about.

It is clary about the best seeking hardware on NPD January lol
You don't need several NPD threads... c'mon.

Or OP put effort to show all info or not create NPD thread at all.

Create several NPD threads about each little info is not productive.... for example if I follow the example of OP I should create a "PS5 best-selling console in US in January".

Switch being the top hardware is based on NPD results though.

It's much better to have one thread on everything rather than one thread just on units. Otherwise we could have one thread for top platform by units, one for top platform by revenue, one for software, one for accessories etc etc.

That's why I didn't put NPD at the thread title to highlight a specific sales achievement of Nintendo Switch 26 months streak record in unit sales.

I actually agree, but this is not how this forum goes.
