January 2021 NPD: Nintendo Switch was the best selling hardware unit in January 2021. Consecutive 26 months streak as the best selling hardware.

I dunno why people are so mad OP filtered only a part of the data and presented a thread about it. It's like we haven't lots of threads about tech based on something else that already has OT. It's really weird. I guess people like to be upset and/or mad without reason.

What do you mean?

I thought we have "nee news" = new thread way... NPD are a new news and cover what this thread is.

Now I need examples of that tech OP.

PS5 tech should go into PS5 OT, XboxSX tech should go into XboxSX OT, Nvidia tech should go into Nvidia OT... this is what I get from what you want.

That is how it works today... you have the OT and if it nee news a new thread.

New news of any of these has a new thread too... now if the news is for one of more of these it has only one thread not several.

OT is OT.

New news are new threads.
One per news... not several per news.

You don't create a Digital Foundry Face Off thread for each part inside the article/video... one for framerate, one for resolution, one for 120Hz mode, one for VRR part, one for Xbox stutter bug, etc etc.

You create one single thread just like one single NPD thread.

I have no ideia what you can't understand and why you are using unrelated examples.

That's why I didn't put NPD at the thread title to highlight a specific sales achievement of Nintendo Switch 26 months streak record in unit sales.
Why does your Switch hardware thread have the NPD top 20 software for January?

Your comparison doesn't make sense as we don't have an NPD OP.

I've been reading NPD threads on GAF for over a decade and they always include all information. They don't filter out information based on the preferences of the thread poster.

Good for you! Nice to see someone else from way back when! I've been reading GAF since 2004~2005, what about you?

Two threads but same data.

To highlight Zelda BOTW sales achievement.

I saw this happening few months ago yeap... that doesn't make it right.
You should help the community grow not make the same mistakes lol

I did not post on the second thread to not support it.

And that exactly the same reason I did not created a new NPD thread and posted additional info here ;)

If that thread get locked I can create a NPD thread.

Then it's not just a thread on Switch's specific sales achievement as you claimed. It's a thread about the parts of the NPD results that you liked.

2008 was when I first started reading them. Ironically enough I heard about here from VGChartz lol.

Another one

Keep posting wrongs things thinking it will make you right lol

It just supports my points.

Going back to sales, hopefully we get some leaks soon so we get actual numbers.

It would be particularly good to get platform breakdowns. I wonder if the Switch SKU is the highest one for Immortals. That's what happened in the UK and we know Ubisoft is finding a lot of success on Switch.

Best-selling hardware platform in dollars in January
1. Wii (Jan 09) ~$170m
2. PS3 (Jan 07) ~$140m

PS5 was the best-selling hardware platform in dollars sold in January, with the highest dollar sales total for a January month since the Wii in 2009.

There's been no mention of PS3 ...

Forget about the PS4, the Switch is going after the almigthy PS2 and DS straight up.

Switch Pro, Breath of the Wild 2, next Mario Kart, next mainline Pokemon, next Donkey Kong and next 3D Mario are not even out... SCARY !!!

Dang, Ring Fit is killing it for an $80 game.
Its a steal too..You'd pay that much for a gym membership within a few months. I've been using it to exercise for over a year and still going strong.

It's so good especially with bad weather....

Sony may not be able to ship enough PlayStation 5 consoles to meet demand, but it did get enough units into the United States retail chain to break a decade old dollar sales record. According to the latest NPD report, the console raked in more revenue in January 2021 than any other system has since the Nintendo Wii in 2009. It was outpaced by the Nintendo Switch in terms of units sold, but this is still a positive result for the next-gen system.

It was a huge month for the industry overall, with total spend up 42 per cent year-over-year, tallying a record $4.2 billion in total. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was the best-selling game, but Assassin's Creed Valhalla continued its spectacular performance, and is now the second fastest-selling entry in the series.

Even more impressively, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales finished in third place, as Cyberpunk 2077 dropped like a rock – from second position in December 2020 all the way down to 18th place, albeit with digital sales data excluded. Hitman 3 failed to make the overall top 20, although its digital sales data is also absent.

Really wish we got these numbers.

I swear the only news we get from switch is how much it's selling these days. Fantastic, don't give shit.

New games please.

It doesn't need another thread lol
That is the whole point.

Your OP lacked data so the community will fill it.
Dumbass, why are you crying for two days straight and derailing the thread? this thread is about celebrating the Switch being the best selling console in the US for 26 consecutive months, that's the purpose of this thread, not to report NPD sales for all consoles. did you see in the thread title the word "NPD sales" anywhere? if your ass got triggered because of this news then that's your fault, you wrote half the fucking replies in this thread just to say "b..but the PS5 is selling too l..look at these tweeeets" lmao at your empty life.

This year is looking quite nice for new games so far. Though agree it will be nice to see the first Direct/showcase of the year and have even more announced.

Good to see Spiderman selling well. Demon Souls also made it to the PS5 top ten.

Hopefully these games continue to sell as more and more people buy the console.

Also, its pretty obvious that the PS5 is a $499 console. The $399 SKU is basically there to avoid backlash. they barely even shipped it. hopefully they realize that the demand for $499 consoles is bigger than ever. Gamers are older than ever and can spend $500 on a 7 year investment. Lets make sure the PS5 Pro is also $499.

Just dance is a huge series for Nintendo.

The data is from NPD lol

I indeee completed the lack of data in OP... you are welcome to thank me.

The supply constraints helps with this kind of "record" in that the early adopter demand wasn't able to be met by Nov-Dec as it normally would. It's certainly telling that the last time dollar figures were this high was with a console half the price of the PS5.

but but but I thought Nintendo and the Switch had completely decimated and destroyed the Sony brand in Japan.

Sony's biggest enemy is supply constrains. This should've been a massive transition to PS5, proves that the solid sales at high prices of PS4 even this late! The thirst is high.

And people are lined up trying to buy it.

Can you imagine if Sony could meet demand.

People that wanted it could have bought it? And then there would be lots of stock sitting on the shelf for people that became interested in it later?

Like most consumer goods?

Damn that's tough to imagine.

Although on the flip side if supply was there demand wouldn't be so high because scalpers wouldn't want it, and FOMO would be gone.
