I don't live in Japan, but I thought this might be a good thread to ask this in...
I feel like something like this would be perfect for my current living area, especially for eating and studying.
What exactly would the low dining room table, with a floor cushion pillow that people sit on be called? I've tried looking it up, and the closest thing I can find is people referring to kotatsu, but a kotatsu is not exactly what I mean because I don't need one that's heated.
I'm trying to find something I can order on amazon or someplace else online, and since my room gets warm enough already, I don't really need the heated kotatsu, just something that is similar without the warming function. A nice floor cushion with maybe a backing would be great too.
Looks like I didn't make it to the interview for JET...
Help
so I just saw the nintendo direct and apparently Xenoblade X is coming out in April... at least in japan. the only problem is: I don't own a Japanese WiiU, so I was wondering if there are any services where you can like rent a system for a couple of days/weeks?
Or any idea where I might get the cheapest possible WiiU around here?
You can't rent games in Japan afaik, so I'm guessing the same goes for systems. Ask a friend or buy the console and sell it back after you're done.so I just saw the nintendo direct and apparently Xenoblade X is coming out in April... at least in japan. the only problem is: I don't own a Japanese WiiU, so I was wondering if there are any services where you can like rent a system for a couple of days/weeks?

Hm, I don't know but if you have a smartphone you can try SoundHound. It can listen to a song and tell you what it is.日本のGAF、こんばんは!
So I just got done watching エンヂングノート / Death of a Japanese Salesman, and was wondering if any of you knew of the song at the very end? The chorus goes something like "あるよ、あるよ、いつもあそこにあるよ..." or some version of that. My googling efforts haven't given me any results so far so I thought I'd ask here.

Keep warm :/Misread hyperdia. Next train transfer is at 6am. In some bumfuck nowhere town with no visible hotels or net/manga cafes. Sleeping rough in a park. Kind of shitty
I survived but it was a sucky night all around
I was glad I had my phone battery with me. hobo with a net connection
Where on earth were you?
Japan.
I'm at work so I don't have time to look more in depth at the moment but, yes it looks like there's a 2015 available here: http://www.midori-store.net/Would anyone in Japan be willing to tell me if there's a 2015 version of this calendar:
specifics here: http://www.jptamerica.com/blog/2013/05/pre-order-midori-washi-wall-calendar-2014/
and if so, could you help me import it? My wife and I purchased one for 2014 from Tokyu Hands on our last trip there. However, I haven't been able to find a 2015 version online or.. well anywhere in California so far.
I seriously slept in a park lol. Only for like an hour, it was really too cold to sleep anywhere wthout walls, and the only places open I could find were toilets (thank god all the public toilets were still open)
Was pretty surprised wandering around at like 1am and running into a random other dude also wandering around the park. Only other person I saw pretty much the entire night
Would anyone be interested in a Tokyo meetup?
If she's good enough to be able to translate text, she could do freelance translation from English to Japanese. Although it can be pretty dreadful.. and it's easier to earn more when you interpret in real life (during meetings etc). Where were you planning on going/taking her?Hey y'all. Just a quick question:
I am a digital nomad lawyer and writer who works while traveling, mostly to cheaper places like Thailand and Vietnam. I'm in Tokyo - I hadn't planned to stay more than 2 or 3 months, but I am smitten. My girlfriend is Japanese, with moderate English competency. What are the prospects for her working remotely? What kind of work could a Japanese national do over the Internet? I'd love to be traveling and living the nomad life with her, and I know she would enjoy it. However, she is tied to her job here and I just can't see myself living in Tokyo for that much longer.
Any ideas?
Also, would I be completely fucking up her career if, for instance, we were to break up and she had left her job to go traveling with me?
That.. might be possible. Or at least it might be super hard for her to get her life back on track (having money for a new apartment, getting a new job and waiting for the first paycheck etc). That's why I said you have to figure out what she really wants. Does she know English well to survive on her own? You should really talk to her about it..Also, would I be completely fucking up her career if, for instance, we were to break up and she had left her job to go traveling with me?
It snowed so much where I'm at tonight. Had only eight inches of unfrozen windshield to see out of while driving home from work.Yay, it's kind of snowing here! ☆*:.。. o( 。>‿‿<。 )o .。.:*☆

I think that you might have to figure it out yourself, if you think it's good or selfish to bring her, or really ask HER what she wants. What she truly wants.
If she's tied to her job then doesn't that mean she wouldn't be able to join you?

Hmm, yeah, I can imagine that translation work would suck. Her English isn't good enough to interpretation. Oh, well. I think it's all just a bad idea.
We would be going around Southeast Asia, maybe South America, other cheaper places around the world.
The whole point would be that she would quit the job, because she hates it anyway. But unless she can find a way to make money online, it would be pointless. And her company is too traditional to allow a remote worker, I think.
Oh, well. Thanks for the help.

Hi Japan GAF. I am planing a trip with my fmaily to Tokyo this may and is interested in going to the Doraemon museum. However i do not really understand the instructions on how to perorder the tickets on
http://l-tike.com/fujiko-m/english/.
Does the website says that i can only buy the tickets months in advance and not that week that i am in Japan? Does Loppi accept cash? i read else where that you need to enter your Japanese translated name when ordering?
Hmm if its too hard i may giveup......
Is the process for ordering tickets to ghibli studios museum or other museum hard too?

Thanks!!!! I am going after the golden week in mid may. I lives in Singapore so I will look for alternatives to email and book my tickets =pThe site you linked says "Tickets for the following two months become available on the 30th of each month." I think this just means that tickets for those who wish to visit in May and June will be available for sale on April 30. You don't have to purchase the tickets for your trip in May on April 30. And I see there are instructions with pictures (though they are small). It doesn't look very difficult. You can always ask the Lawson staff to help you. Just mention the museum's name and point to the Loppi machine and they will do what they can to assist you.
I think depending on the season, some months might be busier and tickets sell out sooner. If your trip is planned for May, be aware that the first week of the month is Golden Week (multiple national holidays in a row) and a busy vacation season for Japan. I don't know how popular the museum is, but tickets might be sold out from May 1 to May 6. If your trip is later in the month, it might be possible to get tickets the week you are there. If it's not busy, you could probably buy tickets the day before.
Loppi is an electronic ticket kiosk at Lawson convenience stores. When you order tickets from there, the machine prints out a receipt. Take that to the register, and you can pay for the tickets there (preferably cash). The instructions on the museum website don't mention entering your name, so I don't think you have to worry about that.
Here's a guide to using convenience store ticket kiosks, including Loppi (The guide is mostly for concert tickets, but the instructions will be pretty similar for other events. Youtube videos are also included ): http://www.japanconcerttickets.com/howto/buying-concert-tickets-japan/
And non-Japanese residents can buy Ghibli museum tickets at any JTB in Japan; you can even email and book tickets in advance:
For UK residents-http://www.japanspecialist.co.uk/ghibli-museum/ticket-only/
For US residents-https://www.jtbusa.com/en/other/o-ghibli.asp

I'm not sure, but this could be helpful:Hi!
Does anyone knows if some sort of special "study trip" deal exists between Brazil and Japan?
I'm half-italian (and studying japanese atm), but one of my teacher adviced me to look into the other side were maybe they could have broader and cheaper offers, considering they should have better relations since they have the biggest Japanese community.
I'll try go to the Brazilian consulate in Milan, but honestly am not expecting anything out of it, since it's something that counts in a third country and they probably don't have any informations.
Any reccomandation is gladly welcome!
