Purchases of the week (THE ORAL CIGARETTES, ストレイテナー and ゲスの極み乙女 are just singles so I won't bother talking about them)

Wasn't ゲス's single to be released on the 22th?

Flower's PV, standard Flower song but it's still nice, and they look pretty:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBa0uKBuUFk

Just preordered Namie Amuro's new album on CDJapan. Grabbed the CD+Blu-Ray edition. The covers are so beautiful!!!

I'm unsure which edition to get! I think I'll go with the CD & Blu-Ray edition too. Also, that poster, she looks gorgeous http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dsX7slSv3gU/VSaWbpY5ZLI/AAAAAAAAO-Q/T7ZWC-9WoME/s1600/CCKKFNBUgAMzS0G.jpg

Edit, a teaser was just released

THE BAWDIES will do a short Europe tour in July, this was announced today. I'm soooo happy to know that I'll see them live. Never thought they'd come. Hype hype hype!

I know! The CD only version is so pretty and I love the cut out design for the CD+DVD version. Went with Blu-Ray though so I could watch it on my TV.
Omgsh, the teaser song sounds very R&B. I can't wait!!!

yet another Dempagumi.inc single on the way

It has been announced that Dempagumi will be releasing their next major single on June 17, 2015 titled, “Otsukare Summer.” The single’s lyrics are written by Kenichi Yamada and Yujin Katagawa (from Yuzu), and will be arranged by Tom-H@ck.

So bored with my current music. I need something new!

I only have two.. requirements.
- Somewhat similar to my current "taste" (i.e. pop & electro-pop/etc)
- Nothing too slow (I like fast-paced music like a lot of k-pop)
- No male-only bands (tried, but boybands are not really my thing)

Please and sankyuu~ ・∀・

Been on a bit of a Japanese kick lately, it's been a while.

Stumbled on this band illion on Spotify and really loved the shit out of a few of their songs, in particular BEEHIVE. Gorgeous music video, too! Listened to some of their stuff and it reminded me of when I used to listen to Altocolony no Teiri all the time in high school, so I decided to check what RADWIMPS had done since then. Listened to Zettai Zetsumei and loved it. I think DADA is my favorite. Either that or G Koui. Hyperventilation (?) is an old favorite of mine.

toe is still really good, there's actually a chance I might see them live this summer. That'd be rad. Goodbye is my favorite song of theirs, I haven't hear much of their new stuff though. Also they're on Spotify. Dope.

I don't really watch anime anymore. The most recent one I've seen was Attack on Titan and the best thing to come out of that was the amazing ending theme by Cinema Staff. Great Escape is an awesome song.

Soil & Pimp Sessions is fucking amazing and my favorite song of theirs, Crush, is my ringtone and alarm lol. Super recognizable style.

That old Persona 5 fan album introduced me to this one MEG song. It's an awesome song, but I tried looking into some of her other stuff and it didn't sound similar at all. Way too bubbly.

In general I'm not a fan of the super upbeat bubbly pop stuff Japan puts out. I like Capsule, I don't like Perfume. I'm a much bigger fan of the sort of... grungier, electronic "dark pop" style as I like to call it.

Speaking of Capsule my favorite album of theirs is the one nobody seems to like much LOL. I really liked Player!

oh and nujabes is incredible but that goes without saying really

I think that's it off the top of my head. There's definitely more but I can't remember right now. If you guys know any cool bands on Spotify let me know please, lol. They don't have to be on Spotify but that's a big bonus for me. Any suggestions are cool tho

edit -

oh I just remembered I really like Teddyloid and Hideki Naganuma too

RADWIMPS, illion (which is the name of the solo project of RADWIMPS's vocalist) and cinema staff are all great picks, you have good taste

I apologize in advance if you can't find everything on Spotify since I don't use it. Some artists might not be on the service, and even if they are you might not find their entire discography.

lmao I don't know how I didn't pick up on that. Guess that explains why illion instantly reminded me of RADWIMPS hahaha

And thanks dude :)

Oh wow, awesome. Thanks dude. I do know that Ellegarden and 9mm are on Spotify, I saw them earlier. My best friend actually used the name Ellegarden on PSN up to about 2011 or so and I recognized the name haha.

I used to listen to some ONE OK ROCK in high school! Should be fun rediscovering them, I never listened to them as much as RADWIMPS so I don't remember their stuff as clearly.

MEG's stuff tends towards the bubblier side of things, I think. I don't know her entire library but I think Freak is an outlier. Kiss or Bite maybe?

Thank you, super cute stuff! (First URL doesn't work btw.)
Really like the music videos too. :3 Last girl's voice is disturbingly cute.

I'm guessing the Shiggy Jr. link was supposed to be this or possibly this. Listen to the Music is newer and likely indicative of where they want to take the band's sound, which is probably good news given your tastes!

Namie

Preview of Stranger off Namie's new album: https://youtu.be/R1jhECLVfco Sounds good!

Sounds good but sort of standard, like a follow up to Neonlight Lipstick or Supernatural Love. Just realised this will be getting a PV!. Clearer teaser is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVBqOAbDe1Q

Always here for Flower

I was going to use this quote as an excuse to post a gif from the PV, where they're dancing with books, alas there is none so

in more Ten Tenko news, she's putting out a vhs tape (lol) and the new issue of her zine has a CD-R with 8 songs.

付属CD-R『独裁』収録曲

1 無題
2 無題
3 FF
4 落書き無用
5 前ならえ
6 ポケモン
7 i wash my head
8 独裁

Just listened to this, Tentenko doing noise/avant garde is the best thing ever. The Lavender Town theme surprised me.

ha, yeah, I like it. I appreciate that she doesn't just go for straight harsh noise and there's some nuance in there. it's almost... krautrock-y?

I only wish there was more.

Yeah, same here.
...

MEG is moving to London next month to attend 3 schools (business and fashion if I'm reading this right) but she's still going to do music.

Daoko is getting interviewed on TV, I wonder if we'll finally get to see her whole face.

I'm also really liking Billie Idle's album.

she'll probably still find a way to cover her eyes :) the photos of her performing live show her with long bangs and tricky lighting to obscure her face.

if she's doing it to be mysterious... it's working.

and yeah, I've probably listened to IDLE FELLAS 20 times in the last week. it's pretty special.

I already listen to her, actually! So happy she did a collab with Joslin.

I couldn't find her on your Last fm :(

She might actually be joining Jolin on one her tour stops, which would be amazing.

My friend was telling me about this, (she goes to the uni MEG Instagram'd). I don't really know much about MEG though, unfortunately.

No worries! She will? Sounds really cool! I liked some of their songs but some others were... well.. undeniably similar to certain virtual songs. I can't even recall which (because I haven't listened to the album since launch, I think).

Yep.

I hope she keeps this up for her entire career. Pretty into it.

Also been listening to that Billie Idle album a lot, it's really good.

Thinking about Japanese artists that hide their faces...

BEAT CRUSADERS (I'd say they were the first popular band to do that in Japan)

MAN WITH A MISSION (though they had a different name before and didn't wear the masks)

this is not a business

amazarashi

phatmans after school (they just use that character)

Passepied (though it's more like Daoko, they don't hide their faces that much)

I'm sure there's a lot more.

Soutaisei Riron used to try to be pretty anonymous but Etsuko at one point started having pictures taken after she started doing more solo stuff

I think they're still into hiding their faces but aren't as strict about it anymore. MATATABISTEP showed some of their faces very briefly as well, if I remember correctly, but then they did an interview after their last album came out where they sat in near-complete darkness.

I'm really feeling UCARY & THE VALENTINE. not sure why she/they are as obscure as they/she is.

I especially like the stuff that's somewhat darkwave-revivalist/ early Togawa Jun inspired.

Not a huge fan of her stuff be she collaborated with ART-SCHOOL and the HIATUS recently so she's cool in my book, and it definitely gave her some exposure since they're big bands (she got to perform at the HIATUS's show in Budokan so that's something).

I didn't know about this.

Will definitely get tickets for the London gig if I'm able.

Glad to see another fan :)
Going to the Paris show, pretty small venue (well, they aren't that famous outside of Japan obviously), it's gonna be great. I wonder if I'll be able to take a pic with them, they seem so nice...

GOOD ON THE REEL announced the release of a new mini-album, their seventh one. Release date is June 3rd. They will also make their major debut with this album, they're now with Universal J.
Love the cover.

Kidori Kidori also announced the release of a new full album. June 3rd.
This will be their first album to have only Japanese songs, can't wait!

RADWIMPS finally announced a new single. The title track is the theme song of Toile no Pieta, starring the band's vocalist. The single will be out on June 10th.

Digging SHE'S new PV, their mix of piano and rock is neat.
