Apparently I was shown Hitorie's "Senseless Wonder" last month by another contributor on SparkPlugged. Huh. I guess hearing them a second time was what really impacted me.

Miliyah Kato - Loveland
A decent RnB album it sounds like so far. Really enjoying it. All that comes out these days are those horrid electronic/techo whatever shit is popular in those shitty american/uk charts.

Discovered Hitorie (ヒトリエ) while watching the latest Countdown Japan festival. Formed by a vocaloid producer (wowaka, who is quite famous), their songs are for the most part fast-paced with crazy instrumentals. Love the voice of the frontman, too. They released their new EP today which is pretty damn good.

Not bad. And yeah, sort of reminds me of a structured Polysics lol\

From their new mini-album. I'm seriously addicted to them.

I really like this. Any recommendations that sound like this?

Their style is kind of unique but they sort of remind me of HaKU, Ling Tosite Sigure and Arukara.

By the way, Gotch (from Asian Kung-Fu Generation) released a new PV from his upcoming solo album. Pretty great.

Bought KANA-BOON's new single and BIGMAMA's new single today. Actually I ordered KANA-BOON's single when it was announced but I couldn't wait for my copy so I also bought it on iTunes OTL
Not much to say, both are amazing. I think KANA-BOON is currently one of my top 5 bands, all three tracks on the single are fantastic. BIGMAMA's one includes a cover of Jamiroquai's Virtual Insanity which is really good, didn't expect that. They managed to give this song a unique style.

New Hanakana album day. Hurry up international post.

Of course what backwards planet am I living in that I need to import physical media if I want music legally. And people wonder about piracy.

I'd like to recommend the tracks I've been listening to most lately.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - "スローモ (Slowmo)"
Nakata produces much more of an EDM sound than the tracks she gets on the radio. It's got a sweet beat.

The Winking Owl - "The Ocean Floor"
I believe I posted this once before, but it's such a fantastic song, melodically. The lead guitarist also posts guitar covers, most recently of which was a Fall of Troy song. Awesome! That track is just gorgeous. The whole mini-album, Voyage, is great. I keep playing it when I'm on the train. Another one I really like is Through the Glass. The version on the mini-album is cleaner/better.

Spitz - "エンドロールには早すぎる (Endorōru niwa Hayasugiru)"
I don't have a link for this song, but 小さな生き物 (Chisana Ikimono) quickly became one of my favorite Spitz albums. I really recommend it.

SiM - "Rosso & Dry"
This song's rhythm shows SiM's reggae roots well, while it also melds well with their post-hardcore influence. That melodica, too. Damn. That's nice.

Arukara - "名探偵ミスタ相棒はジョニー (Meitantei Misuta Aibō wa Johnny)
Also straight out of a phenomenal album. I'm out of words. It's great, though.

tricot news. komaki will leave the band by the 27th. :S

Came here to post this. Creative differences? I don't even know how that could happen after that amazing debut album. He was a good drummer, no doubt. Apparently not a member when the girls first created the band but I've never seen / heard them without him. Hope the replacement knows how to drum to many different beats.

Announcement

We have just announced in Ustream that our drummer, komaki will leave the band after the one-man show at Umeda AKASO, Osaka on March 27, 2014.

We are very sorry to inform this to all the fans and relevant people always supporting us. We made this decision after the sufficient discussion, and hope you can understand this. We will perform at the coming shows after April with a support drummer.

We appreciate your continued support for tricot and the drummer, komaki.

Need to get their full album and the mini-album they released last year.

Random thought : I wonder if [Champagne] will go major this year. They are one of the most successful indie bands right now, playing on the biggest stages of rock festivals, they were the opening act for Muse when they came to Japan, their CDs sell really well (their latest single reached Oricon's top 10), the vocalist will be on m-flo's next album, the band did a collaboration with Nike...
Maybe they'll pull an ELLEGARDEN and stay with their indie label forever...

Ayu is now married as of yesterday/today. The marriage is registered in Japan as well, but she's been back in LA after a very short visit to Japan. She's also working on a new album currently and has been for a few months.

I wish I knew some. Shinsei Kamattechan is my favorite band, bar none. I haven't been able to find anyone that reminds me of them. It might be why I like them so much.

Wow! That's a big trip! I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. You're going to go to Hiroshima before me~

My friend surprised me with a ticket to the Kyary Pamyu Pamyu concert in NYC this weekend... I'm not familiar with her at all (nor any JPOP for that matter) but figure it'll be interesting at the very least. What am I in for? Any stand out tracks I should listen to before I go? I'm more of a metalhead, she ever dabble in a more rock-oriented space?

Oh dear. She's more of a 'weirdo electro'-type thing...

Basically like Lady GaGa with bubblegummy electronic tracks produced by the guy behind Perfume (Yasutaka Nakata).

Her most infamous and probably most representative of her style, PONPONPON:

You are in for some weird shit. From what I have seen, her stage is very much like the one in this video. Lots of oversized things and candy colored setpieces.

Whoa. I was not prepared for the Lisa Frank-fueled fever dream... Though I'm kind of looking forward to it more now, it's going to be cray-cray. Hah. Cool, thanks! I feel like that song was on a recent episode of The Simpsons (yes, I still watch the Simpsons, I don't know why either) so I guess I have heard of her in a roundabout way!

Yes, this song was on the Simpsons, lol.

There is really nothing Gaga about Kyary

I was referring to her crazy look which is several times more bonkers than GaGa... musically, they're not really similar at all especially since Kyary doesn't do anything on the musical end. She's the closest comparison I can think of for Kyary unless you can think of another Western artist that might fit the bill. :/ Katy Perry?

And I'm sure Ayu was thinking in her mind "I rapped in Nothing from Nothing too but no one remembers that shhhh" when they were announcing that this was her first foray into rap.
