Japanese Music (Pop, rock and all 'dat) |OT|

Senkawos sounds like té and jizue sounds like indigo jam unit. Loving them.

EDIT: Searching for similar sounds I discovered
How to count one to ten (Math/Post-Rock) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xkJOuMrwSM
interior palette toeshoes (Post-Rock) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMJzSVp2vmE

te' has some similarities to Senkawos but obviously they are not known for having a jazz component to their sound. Nice to know people listen to te', though. indigo jam unit while more straight up jazz is a good comparison. Jizue is also comparable to Mouse on the Keys whom I believe have been discussed here. Actually another great band for this discussion would be:

fox capture plan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bOppBGib0k

interior palette toeshoes are pretty cool. How to count one to ten is fantastic! I actually found them out through this thread a while back and I got both of their CDs a couple weeks ago. This is the sound that I have been studying a lot. I must have gotten around 20+ CDs in the last two months based around it. Like I said I'll try my hand at an informative post in the next couple days. In the meantime, I have to go camping -___-. I'll rec one more semi-outlier, since they're very much alt/pop rock with math elements not unlike tricot, QOOLAND, the cabs, etc.

Yeah, I listened a bit more of Senkawos and they're more jazzy than than I've realized. But still, they have some post-rock-ish sound to them that reminds me a lot of some slower té sounds.

Anyway, fox capture plan sounds great, EDIT: And I just found out boheminvoodoo thanks to YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjDrEdEzfQc

I'm wondering if any of you guys has ever heard of Polaris? Doesn't seem like they're very well-known, but this song of theirs is just lovely.

Also check out 檸檬.

Listened to Czecho No Republic's MANTLE, their second major album. Damn, it's goooooooooooooood, I think it's my favorite album of the band so far. So many catchy, dancey, uplifting songs... Perfect album for that summer in Japan. 13 songs of pure bliss, definitely in my top 10 albums of 2014.
Also loving HINTO's new album, ONE OK ROCK's new single and CreepHyp's new single. Man, buying your CDs in Japan makes you like them even more.

Going to Kyoto's Tower Records again tomorrow.

This thing Komaki, the former drummer of tricot, is involved with is really nice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McaEBf-tAlk

I like this kind of music, but it's unexpected from Komaki although this might be an illustration of his musical differences with tricot.

dope. Man I had all the time in the world to think of a submission lol. Love the community approach. It's definitely not the last time they do something like this.

My personal favorite idol group and the one that got me into Japanese Idol culture, Berryz Kobou has announced that after their 2015 spring your that they are going on indefinite hiatus. This actually makes me very sad considering the impact this particular group had on my life and the very close friends I have in my life today who I know because of a common interests with this group. I wish these young ladies the best in their future endeavors whether that be singing, modeling, variety show host, or acting. ;__;

If any of you guys care and followed them feel free to discuss your favorite songs, members and moments even from the group.

Somebody posted a MV a while ago, I think it was still this year. It was kind of pop rocky, I guess. There was a guy playing piano, most of the MV had a white backdrop with all these little colorful balls flying around.

Anyone know what I'm thinking of?

Some recent finds of mines from the last couple of months. Unfortunately since this thread is so J-RAWK focused I haven't been posting my finds or what I'm currently digging lately.

Damn, browsing Twitter during Rock in Japan is tough. So many pictures and tweets about it, I hope I'll be able to go someday... Truly the best festival in the world in my opinion.

Anyways, two days left before Nothing's Carved In Stone's new album as well as Takahashi Yu's new album, I'm soooo hyped. What a great summer.

blast from the past!!
Charisma.com

Shibuya-Key/Electronic duo that have this Hip-Hop vocal style. They are definitely the one to watch out their first album is catchy and danceable. These feisty femmes make filthy electro-rap tunes on which Itsuka dismantles modern Japanese society with spiteful glee. They're the ultimate haters—but they have fun with it.

Quick thoughts on a few CDs I bought.

The Cheserasera - WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
Their major debut CD. Might be my favorite among the ones I've listened to yesterday and today. This is right up my alley, in the same vein as LOST IN TME, maybe a bit more upbeat. The singer's voice is exactly what I love. Not much to say, they definitely are a band I'll follow closely, I'm in love.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6LdGQcCjK8

Balls - Spotlight (ボールズ - スポットライト)
Their major debut mini-album, I was quite hyped for it and I'm not disappointed at all. Pop-rock-folk music, it reminds me of the chef cooks me so that's a very good thing. Their songs tend to be cheerful but the vocalist can add some melancholia here and there. Great stuff.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5TIf1p0ZX0

Yureru - XENOtransplantations (ゆれる - XENOtransplantations)
I was also quite excited to listen to this, I discovered them last month after seeing their interview on natalie. Their sound is a bit tricot-like, maybe more hardcore-oriented. Actually I wish tricot was more like Yureru :lol Loving the vocalist, the way he can scream when you don't really expect it... haha
So good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe_ay0k1E28

バズマザーズ - THE BUZZMOTHERS (BUZZMOTHERS - THE BUZZMOTHERS)
Never heard of these guys before, Tower Records was playing their album when I was there and I instantly grabbed it. So good. Don't really know how to describe their music. It can be chaotic I guess, but really catchy. A great surprise. Gotta buy their other CDs.

Always feels good to have awesome new bands in your library.

Loving Ubiquitous (ユビキタス)'s new PV. Their major debut mini-album released earlier this year was cool, looking forward to their new one.

I entrusted my girlfriend to buy tickets for the Perfume tour - she took too long, and you can guess the rest...

We'll be able to get some through other means, but it still sucks!

'Cling Cling' has warmed on me quite a bit. I'm still going against the grain by saying that I really like 'Hold your hand', despite the general fandom not typically having a high opinion on it.

I feel like such a fool. This concert is surely sold out already, but it has [Alexandros] / BIGMAMA / 勝手にしやがれ / きのこ帝国 / MAGUMI AND THE BREATHLESS / ニューロティカ / POLYSICS / the telephones / TOTALFAT / ウソツキ all playing on the 21st of this month.

I really wanted to see Bigmama and Katteni Shiyagare, in particular, before I moved away from Japan.. Kinoko Teikoku puts on a fantastic show, so I'd love to see them, too. I also like [Alexandros], Polysics, and the telephones, of course. Shiiiiiit!

I'm in the same boat but I'm just gonna see how much they're gonna be on the secondary market. You can't just see a perfume show in the states so I'm willing to break bank.

It's Japan for me, so slightly easier (or more diffcult), depending on how you look at it!

Saw Boris live last night. Pretty sure 90% of the audience didn't know what they were getting into, everyone just looked bemused.

Great show, but they played a LOT of slower stuff, which was surprising. Makes me wonder if they're getting away from their "Pink" sound, which would be a bummer.

Just had to buy that disney rocks cd lol, many interesting takes by Akai Ko-en, BiS, Gacharic Spin, hy4_4yh, denpagumi etc.

You got a link to this? It's pretty good. Or is it physical only?

new OOR single...such a disappointment
I really loved it. I see that a lot of fans disliked it, especially Decision. Mighty Long Fall is damn good, Decision and Pieces of Me are some great summer tunes imo. I get why people don't like them though.
