Japanese version of DMC3 language support

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
Honky mothers in Japan note : game can be switched to English/Japanese/Korean.

Party on!

Yeah, I just got the game this morning. I'm on mission 6 and the boss is owning me like a poor red-headed stepchild :(

Cool! Now tell me -- is it any good?? I've never been much of a fan. Didn't even like the first one all that much...

If you didn't like DMC1 you probably won't like the game... it plays a lot like DMC1 to me. Areas are well designed for close combat, and it's still fairly difficult. It still has the same type of dodgy crap though ("find the golden ___ of ____ and insert it into the ___ of ___"), but I enjoyed both DMC games and similar action games, so I'm having fun with it.

We need some detailed impressions NOW!

How important are the various styles? Are the new weapons cool and fun to use?

Capcom announced the soundtrack awhile ago...3 CDs. Must be a lot of music in this game, and only 2000 copies being printed I think

Hopefully my copy of DMC3 will arrive today.

ok, now that this is out in japan, i can pretend i've played the import and say JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THIS GAME HAS THE WORST MUSIC. EVER.

the battle theme is like, so laughably bad it's pathetic.

maybe the rest of the music is OK, but....

The language support is for in-game text... you can switch it from Japanese to English to Korean. The voices are always in English though....

One thing that really REALLY sucks is for some reason, it doesn't save your settings at all. I have to keep changing the language to English whenever i play. Pain in the ass. :(

nice. i think i'll import, then. march will be pretty crammed for me, between the psp launch and dragon blaze and something else i feel i'm forgetting.

I knew that the voices would be in english but the text too, nice import choice ;)

I'm at mission 5, can anyone help me where to go?

I'm at the elevator (next to Special Stage 2) that always comes down probably due to the fact that it's overloaded with enemies. Do I need to kill them quickly for the elevator to go up?

Impressions:

GFX are cool, however (and I don't know why) DMC1 still looks better (but they're way better than DMC2). Camera can be a little off sometimes (shoot at enemies off-screen)

Music is nowhere bad as mentionned previously. Ok, it sounds like POP:WW with metal music with lyrics but it's "ok"

Controls are nice, it's really cool to be able to change weapons on the fly with L2/R2

The different styles are nice, I have Trickster Lvl 2 and you can dash in mid-air.

I was happy to find Dante with the same bad-ass attitude as in DMC1. Especially in the encounter with Fido. So far, he's not doing too much (to be badass...)

That's it for now I guess. Very import friendly.

Yes, keep knocking them off.

Have fun against that next boss!

The text option is ONLY for the voice-acting segments. Changing the language to English will NOT change all of the options screens/power-up menus to English, so if you can't read Japanese and this bothers you (it's pretty self-explanatory!) wait for the U.S. version.

What is the difference between the four styles Dante has, BTW? Is it actual moves he gets or something else?

The people on Gamefaqs says otherwise. Everything is english, including text

Weird. The power-up screen remained in Japanese when I went to it. I did exit the game after saving; I wonder if it reset the voice to Japanese? Gotta try it again! :)

LOLZ, I was looking at the "Subtitle" option the entire time. :lol Didn't realize you could actually go into the Language menu. ^^;

I'm really loving the game, it's just what I expected from a DMC sequel! I finished DMC 1 with all S ranks on DMD mode two years ago, yet this game is still a challenge! I especially like how every enemy takes a different strategy to beat , especially the bosses are incredibly well done. Some were kicking my ass the first time I encountered them, but in the end they can be finished off without losing any energy.

HOLY SHIT The Agni&Rudra boss fight was AWESOME. Hard as hell but fun fun fun (Anubis boss fights fun). I menaged to kill the guys at the same time so that I didn't have to fight the dual blades welding surviror ehehe.

This fight alone means DMC3 +1000.

Good game this time round, soundtrack is terrible though, i have absolutely no idea how they could spread that crap across 3 CDs.

That's one of my fav boss fights so far.
Those weapons are awesome too. I basically get Stylish/Showtime everytime I go into a combo with those 2. I couldn't really get anything going before that.

I'm one of the few that didn't really care for either of the first 2 DMC's. My main problem with those 2 was the lack of combat options. It made everything feel very limited. The main reason I even imported DMC3 was due to announcement of you being able to switch between weapons mid fight. So far that's made a big difference. You're given the biggest arsenal of any of these recent breed of action titles. So it never feels repetitive in combat because you've always got a different set of moves to go through. And switching styles also changes your fighting a bit.

The puzzles are still pretty much the same though, they're mainly fetch quests. The plus is that there aren't very many of them in the game so far so its not something you're going to have to constantly have to do. And as mentioned, the music can grind on your nerves. That theme you heard in the trailers is bascailly used in almost every section of the game in one way or anotehr (vocal and vocal less versions of it).

So far my favorite weapon so far is
the Beowulf. It's basically a set gauntlets that turns Dante into a martial artists. Best thing about them is that they're really strong. The draw back is that they are pretty slow so you open yourself up to attacks quite abit. You can also charge the hits by holding the button down.

I wasn't a fan of the style system that much, but once the styles get to level 3 they become very very good, atleast gunslinger and swordmaster do, trickster i've only got to level 2, and I don't use Royal Guard.

Theres quite a few combat moves, not all of which are amazingly apparent, atleast they wearn't to me, but most if not all are documented in the description of the weapons, so it'll show you exactly how to do them. I'd advise everyone to read through the weapon descriptions and move list, I'm sure you'll come across atleast one combo or move you didn't realise you could do.

The lack of additional playable characters is abit crap though, especially considering how fun it looks like playing as them COULD be. I assumed Lady would have a pretty significant playable portion, rather then her just seeming to become a worthless token weakling woman character. Shame too, she started out pretty cool.
She shot dante in the head, twice.

I have got to hand it to capcom... they are on a role.

Biohazard 4 was ridiculously good, and they have returned Devil May Cry to its former self.

Im not going to say DMC is the type of game I'd play forever... but it is like sweet sweet candy after a nice meal. I am really enjoying it... especially since I found out I get 22% Points on all my preorders at Yamada Denki. A permanent buy 4~5 games get one free deal.

BTW: Did anyone get the phone strap for preordering.... It is really nice.

People on the gamefaqs board say that the american version will be "harder" and include extra playable characters. Is any of this true? :P

I suck so so bad at this. It's been way too long since DMC1 :(

Anyone else accidently switching targets all the time because they push the analogue too hard when moving around? Camera isn't bothering me much, it's just that I keep switching out guys while I'm in the middle of a combo ^^;

I dont know if harder...they'll probably remove the easy difficulty, like how the easy difficulty wasn't there for RE4. Why are Japanese gamers weaksauce? :P

'Hard as hell' is an understatement. My clear time for that mission was 42 mins >_<

Fun battle but my god the camera was unpleasant, especially when you get cornered by the two. NG camera is like heaven after DMC3 :P

How does it function exactly?

I'm kinda interested in the game, but I'm not quite sure...

Ninja Gaiden was almost my GOTY last year, but I nearly skipped it due to the fact that I wasn't a huge fan of DMC. However, Ninja Gaiden, in turn, has prompted me to give DMC3 a chance...

My main issues with DMC were, if I can recall, the continue system and the mission design.

The continue system was terrible in that it did not encourage you to experiment with the game. Thanks to the fact that continues were an item you needed to purchase, I would never use them and end up restarting chapters upon dying. Not only that, those continues would not allow you to keep items that you had used. In Ninja Gaiden, when I first approached a challenging boss, I KNEW that I could easily reload my save and be able to start fighting again pretty quickly. As a result, I felt as if I was able to freely experiment with every fight and enjoy them to the fullest. With DMC, by the time I would reach a boss, I'd want to just beat him as quickly as possible in order to avoid losing progress. As a result, I'd end up playing it safe, which resulted in many tedious and frustrating battles. The continue system in DMC1 prevented me from really having the amount of fun that I could and should have had.

The mission system does not bother me nearly as much and wouldn't keep me away from DMC3, but I did not care for the arbitrary tasks that were often designated as entire chapters. It segmented the game and cheapened the experience. Gaiden was also broken up into Chapters, but each chapter was a massive chunk of gaming that felt like a complete, themed stage.

I guess I also disliked the camera quite a bit, as they always seemed to choose cinematic angles over useful ones. For a challenging action game based upon such a technical control scheme, that just doesn't cut it. For the record, I had very little trouble with Gaiden's camera. All I ask for is control!

So, how similar is DMC3 to the original? There were many things I loved about DMC1, but those complaints really brought the game down (the continue system especially).

You have unlimited continues this time(yellow orbs allow you to revive on site, now), you can only rotate the camera around you(not up and down, and only in certain areas. L3 puts the camera behind Dante), and the mission structure is more or less the same.

One thing I don't like about the continue system is that it puts you at the last checkpoint but with all the changes to your inventory that you made before you died.

For example if there is a checkpoint before a boss. During the fight you use a life restore item, then die. When you continue your back at the checkpoint but you now are missing the life restore item and it's not like you got any orbs during the fight to buy another one. So basically the game punishes you hard for using items on any attempt except your winning attempt. So you never end up using items at all on bosses because you have no clue if you're gonna lose again or win this time (exception would be if the boss has like 1 hit left and you're about to die). Just seems like a dumb system.

Otherwise the fact that there at least 'is' a free continue system is a nice change.

So the item usage flaw carried over into the new system? That sucks...

Oh well, not a big deal when considering the new continue system. I'm willing to master a fight to the point where I do not need those items as long as I do not need to wade through other crap prior to that battle.
