I'm still looking forward to this. But may it be our last Bourne movie? I hope not!

I made a freaking Bourne fan site when there were no news, but I wanted another one with Damon so bad. Hopefully this one will be solid. I don't expect it to be as good as the trilogy but that's okay, hopefully it's just enjoyable, intense, with cool fights and a focused story.

All these reports of excessive shakycam are making me rethink watching this in theaters. That, and it's supposedly the worst of the Damon Bourne films.

This has also been my driest summer blockbuster season in years.

I've only seen Civil War and Star Trek: Beyond.

Apart from that, just Popstar on a short date.

That was comfort food. A retread, in a good way. I can see the argument for it being the weakest of the Damon Bourne films, but it's still enjoyable while not doing much new. The Deep Dream (basically Google) gives the film some much needed social commentary and current relevance, going more in-depth of a post-Snowden information age than what Spectre tried. Tommy Lee Jones' Robert Dewey is a bit too cartoonish compared to previous CIA heads, he's the weakest link in the movie. The 18min Las Vegas setpiece was tops. Alicia Vikander was fantastic in keeping you on your emotional toes. I found it interesting that there are really only two action setpieces, so there's more restraint and tension. Didn't even notice how many lines Matt Damon had, so that worked out well.

Just watced it last night..its an okay Bourne movie. It has all the good stuff from Greengrass action scene but the story is kind of mediocre. I'll put it below the original trilogy but above Legacy.

Yeah this summer could be better, hope Suicide Squad delivers.

This is the first summer that I can recall in which I've not gone to the theaters. Suicide Squad will be my first film since seeing BvS. Seconded on hoping it brings the goods. I might also see Bourne the same day, depending on the showtimes.

This doesn't help my already lukewarm interest in the film, despite the trilogy being among my favorite films of all time. But it is still a new if possibly mediocre Bourne.

I've also long noted that the Supremacy end-run (pulse-pounding car chase/music then quietly meet with the Russian girl) is possibly my favorite in any film.

He didn't come back because the studies banned him, even going as far as threatening him he'd never make another film again. Liman took that threat seriously.

Just google it. There's a good piece in the New Yorker on him. He's been called "Limania".

And Supremacy is my favorite. The plot is fanstatic, especially the ending with Neski daughter. And the soundtrack. Berlin Foot Chase is amazing.

Sorry I New Yorker is Tony Gilroy. Here's the Liman one:

Thanks very much folks, appreciate the links :) I never realised Limans filming style was so damn chaotic, seems like they hated him at the time lol.

Funnily enough Supremacy is probably my least favourite of the trilogy. That's probably the film I find the shakeycam the worse, however I still like the film a lot as the shakeycam is my only issue with it (which is admittedly a big one). Love the car chase at the end. I'll definitely be going to see the new one as well.

Never seen Bourne Legacy and tbh I don't really feel the need to.

Identity is still a great film. The banter between Conklin and Abbot is great:

Conklin:"You're worried about a budget meeting? We don't take care of this we don't make it to the men's room, is that clear enough? We will burn for this. We will the both of us burn."

Sooo good.

The reviews don't really incite me to see this in the cinema. Oh well.

Is anyone else still kind of baffled that Extreme Ways has become the end credits anthem of this series? A good song that was an inspired choice by Doug Liman for Identity, but if anything it's just become an ode to the subsequent directors' lack of imagination. When it came back in Supremacy it was like, "Ah ok, cool." Then in Ultimatum I thought, "Again, really?" In Legacy it became, "Alright, you gotta stop this shit." And now again in the new one. By this point I find the song counter-productive to the more realistic approach to espionage (kinda) that these movies take. The song is like comfort food at the end that makes you realize that none of it was real. Which is probably why Greengrass used it in Supremacy to begin with (his original ending in Russia, before he reshot the New York one, was pretty depressing) and all subsequent films ran with it. At least the James Bond theme is something that is weaved into those films. This is just... a Moby song that plays when the end credits start. I've definitely given this too much thought, but I just find it lazy and tired by this point.

Extreme Ways is one of the aspects of the series that has gone from inspired to full self-parody. They might as well end one with Bourne getting hit with a nuclear bomb, and then just cut to him sitting in a cafe with the Moby siren going off.

60% and critics consensus is up.

Critics Consensus: Jason Bourne delivers fans of the franchise more of what they've come to expect -- which is this sequel's biggest selling point as well as its greatest flaw.

And yes, for now it's lower than Spectre which is 64%.

Seeing this in a few hours, will post up my thoughts after. I've seen each Damon Bourne film at least ten times so I'm pretty dedicated to the franchise.

Oh weird, I didn't know Liman was booted off the franchise by Universal.

He must still have a piece of the pie though, since he's listed as Producer in at least Supremacy if not all the films.

I knew that when I saw the trailer with him fighting some dude in a fight club type setting and rockets and shit shooting at his car that it wouldn't be as good as the other three. I'm hoping I'll still like it though.

Still mulling it over. Pretty unhappy. It's better than Legacy on the sheer talent of the cast and crew, but that's not a compliment.

I kept a rough count in my head throughout the movie, and he has more than 25 lines. But by that, I mean he has like 35 lines. It doesn't feel weird though. It's about in line with Supremacy and Ultimatum which is what I expected. Minor spoiler:
He says like half of them in the first 30 minutes.
Big spoiler:
To Nicky, until she dies, at which point he goes pretty quiet like Supremacy.

Dara O'Briain did a series of podcasts for the new film:

Listened to these not very long. No spoilers. They talk positively about Liman too.

Loved identity, but ultimatum has the best fight in the series, with no shaky cam and just good choreography. The scene where he one punched that dude in the trailer told me what I needed to know. And it killed any tension the movie could've had. They should've adapted the books and made him an old married professor to Julia styles and then the jackal kills a student to let him know the hunts on.

The shot where he one punches the guy isn't even in the movie lol. They use a different angle.

Also there's no more shaky cam in this than Supremacy and Ultimatum. A few awkward, unnecessary zooms but otherwise it was fine, or at least business as usual for Greengrass.

What does the podcast say about Liman? I remember Liman saying in an interview how he hated what they did to the character of Bourne in Supremacy.

Checked out some reviews, it appears having a script might have hurt them more than it helped. It seems like the first 2/3s of the movie is muddled and the last 1/3 is where it picks up. Collider review made it sound like they stick the ending though.

They just talk about the good things he set up in Identity, the franchise tropes, Greengrass seemed positive.

Anyone know if Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) will make an appearance in Jason Bourne?

No. Greengrass and Damon don't care.

Yes the script is probably the weakest part. Which is funny because I get why they dropped Gilroy, but it seemed his influence does help.

I don't think they stuck the landing this time. I'd say the middle third was the strongest. There's a really inspired tailing scene. Not Waterloo but something a bit new for the franchise. The ending isn't a cliffhanger like someone said, but I felt it was a pretty big regression of the character. Spoilers:
he just goes full revenge killer and destroys half of Vegas. Compare this to the guy in Supremacy and Ultimatum who would let people live unless it was an unavoidable fight. Also Alicia Vikander's character was just another corrupt agency person the whole time.

I enjoyed it, it has great action scenes as you'd expect from Bourne, but it is not up there as the trilogy. Basically it's a mindless popcorn flick.

Off topic but You've got to respect how Tom Cruise keeps elevating the Mission Impossible series with every film. That franchise doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Okay so I saw it as well, and I enjoyed it. I think the story is decent it's just alarming how similar it is to supremacy at times. The overall story is good just the dialogue at times is not on par as the others. The action is great plus seeing matt damon in the role again is amazing. Did I feel this movie was needed to be made? It's hard to say since the idea around the jason bourne storyline is good I just wished it was more fleshed out and less focus on the sub plot. The shakey camera in some scenesis fucking crazy I couldn't 100% tell what was going on at times. But the first 30 minutes and last 30 minutes, god damn the set pieces are great and really engaging. If they do think about making sequels i'll be down for them just make sure it adds more to jason bourne since that's what makes these movies special and not just him doing random missions.

So I would give this a solid 8/10. The other movies are better expect legacy which is a 7 from me.

I think I liked this movie...but its very flawed, and felt unnecessary.

The action is top notch. Incredible, pulse pounding stuff right in line with the original 3 films.

The plot? Completely eye-rolling and ridiculous. I wont spoil the "twists" but I literally groaned out loud.

Id give it a 6/10? Maybe a 7?

Worth a watch.
