Jason Vorhees gains new life at Paramount. Time to reboot the reboot!

I'm pretty knowledgable when it comes to Jason lol but I think a reboot is needed and the found footage aspect might actually work. Friday the 13th series got messed up when they made Jason a zombie so if the reboot is done properly it can add to the mythos.. I'm just afraid if they catch lighting in a bottle in turns into a paranormal activity yearly movie fest

Friday the 13th already turned into a yearly movie fest when it originally came out!

lol, so bizarre that we're already getting another reboot. Then again, anything should be an improvement over the POS 2009 version. I couldn't even finish it.

But that IS Jason! Or rather was. He only became a supernatural creature in Jason Lives. Before he was disfigured hick (and rapist! Part 3D!) that acted and felt like the reboot Jason to a T. Dash/Brooker/White era of F13th were the series's best years. I do love all of the films to bits though (Ok not 9 and 10)

I don't care if the reboot made him like he was in 2 and 3 because 2 and 3 are shitty movies. The Friday the 13th movies are no more about a redneck running around than they are about Pamela Vorhees, even if she was in them once.

Jason is a big, fucked up burned undead killing machine. Anything beyond that is boring and needlessly complicated. The original series understood that and appropriately moved in that direction and the reboot inexplicably went backward.

I didn't think it outright sucked or anything, I found it very competent enough. It just lacked a voice I think, the tone was just very stale and uninspired. As a movie with Jason killing pretty people it worked very well.

And that blonde girl's boobs. wat

He did in Jason Takes a Cruise.

When?

Things like this can be shot and edited pretty quickly, especially if it's found footage. Definitely not a sure sign of the quality. It's not going to be some kind of major production with a huge budget.

Most of original films had about as long a production schedule. It's not like their format really depends on meticulous planning.
people expect more out of their cinema experience these days. if they don't do much more than just slapping the found footage gimmick onto the friday the 13th franchise it'll probably just sink it again, they should take sufficient time to ensure it's fresh and has a hook outside of mix n' matching a stylistic fad onto a broken down franchise fuelled purely by pop culture and nostalgia.

Yeah, the reboot as decent. Derek Mears was a great Jason and the story and characters were serviceable for the franchise. The only problem with the movie is that the first 20 minutes or so is the best part of the movie. Well, aside from some stupendous breasts with perfect nipple placement.

Haha, I actually kind of like 5. It's just so weird and so stupid.

I swear 5 was on like every weekend on USA Up All Night
I've certainly seen it more times than I'd like to count lol

There's one part when they're in Manhattan where one character (I think it was the Principal) is running away from Jason, clearly gets ahead of him, and then runs to the 2nd story of a building. Jason somehow managed to get to that floor before he did, because the guy proceeds to get thrown out a window.

Jason is my favorite of the slashers, so I'm down.

Haha, yeah. He's got some great lines there, "Your tits are so juicy, dude."

Oh man USA Up All Night, those were the days.

USA Up All Night, yes sir!!!

Jason Goes to Hell just sucks. It's also absolutely disgusting. It's one of the grossest movies I've ever seen. I actually liked the premise with the body-jumping and the family; that could have actually been really scary.

What I liked about Jason Goes to Hell, was Jason's look. The pumpkin head with a mask suites him well.

Yeah. He does impossible teleports all throughout that part 8.It's ridiculous but then so was that movie.

I'm surprised this porn parody hasn't been made yet.

For those not aware, that is not fanart. That is official production art for Kotobukiya's "Bishoujo Horror" line, and figures are being made. This is a thing that is happening, for some reason.

Ah, actually don't remember that.

The look was definitely awesome. It was the most intimidating and scary version IMO.

Or the following segment where it turns into a Michael Dudakoff martials arts flick for a fleeting moment....

New Beginning is just a really interesting movie. For all the wrong reasons.

I also watched USA Up All Night too. I'm surprised my parents let me tbh.

The VHS segment by the director was so perfectly manic and sleazy that I think he'll be the perfect fit for a Friday the 13th movie. I'm actually really excited about the announcement.

Yeah, I thought his segment was the best and most memorable out of the movie. So if they get him, it could work out.

Real talk, tween Jason in 8 is still very unsettling to me :(
Saw 8 for the first time when I was probably 7 or so and boy did that shit stick with me

I'm pretty good at tearing things to shreds, but I really find it difficult to articulate just how awful I thought both VHS films were. That being said, I thought this guy's segment was the only decent one. The others were just exploitative garbage and while this one certainly had elements of that such as the nudity (talking full on boobs and vag here), it was also pretty unnerving and had an interesting atmosphere and vibe to it.

Yeah, I know u and I are on the same page in regards to those flicks.
Only good thing to come out of them was, unsurprisingly, the short Gareth Evans did

Hm yeah true, his was actually good, forgot about that one. That one and the first short in the first VHS are the ones I was okay with.

In the original version of Jason's death in 8, young Jason was supposed to be crawling out of Jason's mouth while Jason was vomiting that toxic waste shit or whatever it was. There's footage of it either on the blu-ray or that documentary from last year, and it is hilariously bad.

I didn't really care for the other segments either. Never did see the second one, probably won't.

One of the VHS directors? If you are doing found footage get someone like Koji Shiraishi and then we can talk.

edit:

The second one is much better than the first. There is one segment in the second movie that i think is the only A+ material out of the entire series (the news crew at the cult compound).

Whoa!

Conceptually is sounds rad though

Man I wish that Crystal Lake doc was on Netflix :(

I'm always down for more Jason slashin' fools up, but I don't really see what's new information in the article. They've been talking about a found footage Friday for ages and it seems like its been rumored for release every year.

I'm a bit worried what rebooting it for a "newer, younger generation" means though. Were the old movies for senior citizens or something?

I'm not crazy about the choice of director either. I hated Amateur Night. I haven't seen The Signal, was that any better? Hopefully he doesn't fill Friday with deplorable shitheels like the characters in Amateur Night. God, that was hard to sit though.

I'm curious of what Adam Wingard could do with it after the excellent You're Next, maybe they'll give him a consideration for the next reboot reboot reboot. To be fair though, his segment in the original V/H/S wasn't any better.

Please no found footage garbage. I rather the film star Justin Bieber and Dane Cook than that lazy and ugly technique.

Found footage isn't inherently awful. It's unfortunately handled like shit a lot of the time and probably would be here, but I would take it over Justin Bieber going anywhere near the franchise. :p

Meh, Part VII had his best look IMO, which, really, was the best part of that whole movie.

As for the reboot and Jason going around tunnels, that didn't bother me so much. The fact he kept the girl chained up kind of did though....that was more of a TCM kind of thing to do and not a Jason thing.

VII's look was good too. I just wish it didn't have all the telekinetic bullshit. Still one of the better movies though overall, and in some ways the telekinesis kind of fits with the supernatural angles... in a way maybe... nah it's still bullshit.

Anyway I got my Part VII DVD signed by Kane Hodder a few years ago. He was also pretending to choke people in line for photos. Hodder's the real deal, he wasn't trying but it still hurt like hell.

I really have to give props to Part 2's look; the mask is fucking iconic, but Sack-head Jason is still the most unsettling for me.

And that final jump scare! What a great release it was to finally see the dude in all his freakish glory. Add in the guy in the wheelchair flying down stairs with the machete stuck in his face and you have a top-tier F13th film.

Guys, I love the series. I've got a version of the poster from the Final Chapter tattooed on me. I watch them regularly.

Fuck Jason goes to Hell.

Just wanted to let that out. Thanks, guys.

I loved The Signal. Part of that love probably stems from the fact that it was filmed in Atlanta, and they used a Joy Division song in the movie. I thought it was pretty neat how the movie is split into three acts with three different directors. I found David Bruckner's segment to be my second favorite out of the three. His segment was actually scary. The second segment was more dark humor, and the third was the weakest. It's a movie that is at least worth checking out.

Thanks. Sounds pretty interesting, I'll look into it.

Yeah, 7 definitely had my favorite look for Jason. The rest of the movie was indeed weak though, it's probably my least favorite of the original 8.

The Crystal Lake VR scene is a golden nugget (of shit) within the annals of cinematic history.

I don't think I've ever laughed harder than I did of that brilliant edit that cuts to Jason slamming the sleeping bags into the tree.

Yeah, it was so good. My entire theater broke out laughing when that happened. All five of us.
