XM has been playing the hell outta of the track since it surfaced.... who put it together? And is it damning to you?

I personally could care less but I'm real interested in seeing where this goes....

well, i have been listening to rap/hip-hop for 13 years. i'm very well aware of the fact that guys will use lines from other artists/songs. but to me, it's usually very obvious and i never saw it as necessarily a bad thing.

but when i looked through the list from the first link you posted, i never noticed ANY of that before. and i know all of those songs as well. i mean, that list is really long. the counterpoint article starts using statistics... and anyone knows that statistically, you can spin anything the way you want it to come out.

i guess it's just shocking to see the long list of songs and lyrics, plus the fact that i never noticed any of it before. jigga held me down 10+ summers, i still have love... but damn.

Yeah that's pretty much how I feel about it too... and I've been listening since rap started.... I had no idea that Jay had "paid homage" through so many lyrics...

Well I had recognized most of them right off the bat in most instances, some are actually new to me. Most of the ones I noticed were, of course, the Biggie lyrics, and I always just wrote it off saying that he was paying homage to Biggie. Hell look at the rest of the list, 2Pac, Nas, Big L, Snoop... I'd pay homage to them too. What I don't respect it the re-arranging of a few words or phrases like he had done in a few songs.

This doesn't sway my Jay-Z fandom as I had known he was doing it anyway.

uh, I noticed pretty much all the Biggie and Snoop Dogg lines...I never thought of it as "biting"..I mean he doesn't change the delivery of the lines at all, it's pretty damn obvious that he's referencing another rapper

I've never really cared, I thought it was sorta cool too actually :p Well, to a point, but whatever, it's not like he doesn't have any original lyrics or anything.

This whole thing is getting blown out of perspective.

I've noticed the Biggie lines. Nas even called him out on it on "Ether".

Doesn't bother me. Hip-Hop borrows heavily from pop culture anyhow.

I thought all of those were pretty obvious. None of this is in any way suprising; out of the hundreds of songs he has out there are a couple of dozen lines where he spits out someone else's line....big whoop.
