Newest drama: AC: Shadows is alleged to have a female/fatmale Sumo wrestler in the game

We used to have people whining about lack of representation.
Now we have cases of well known series have inclusion and representation to a point where it doesn't make much sense.

We are constantly fluctuating around normal with a steady state error that could possibly never be eliminated.

for those who don't know: it is strictly forbidden for women to become professional sumo wrestlers to this day in Japan. Hell, it is even forbidden for women to get into many (if not all of them) sacred places in Japan, including a sumo ring.

The real shit show [in Japan] will start if the game disrespects Oda Nobunaga.
He was a big fan of sumo and here's a detail from a famous painting with Yasuke wrestling and Oda acting as the judge.

Lol at some people in this thread acting as if they genuinely care if Japanese people are offended. At this point, Japanese gamers need to stop being so sensitive over shit like this. I'm all for games being historically accurate, but guess what, there's a good chance it won't be very accurate if a non-Japanese studio is developing it

You don't see anybody in America criticizing Yakuza or Dead Rising for it's outlandish depiction of America. Or even GTA, which is developed by people from the UK, as it mocks American culture. All you people faking outrage about this are no better than the woketards on the other site

Folks are siding with people that would apparently go pearl harbor on their ass over American Ninja, Karate Kid or whatever other shit because anti-woke, lol. Somehow they were going all "it's white soy boys getting offended on behalf of such and such that didn't even ask for it" a minute ago too. Like previous AC were totally representative of their settings, must have missed the magical/alien tech/whatever illuminati behind key figures and cameos by all sorts of historical figures that apparently spent half their lives making assassin gear on the side. Yasuke seems like the perfect AC character candidate with no real record beyond a couple mentions about serving Nobunaga for like a year so they can have him do whatever the hell they want outside that pretending it's because it was secret assassin bs. Glad we got Afro Samurai and Samurai Jack before these people started shit, lol.

A clear case when some individuals are now more Catholic than the Pope.

Since everyone is so clearly interested in sumo I should claim the OT sumo page... a pity Terunofuji just retired but with Hoshoryu stepping up as yokozuna after winning the January basho it should be an interesting March tournament.

Technically there were female sumo wrestlers hookers, so theres that.
These are video games, when was the last time they were EVER accurate to the history?

There is lot of things I don’t like about AC Shadows which is why I’m skipping the game but this whole drama about disrespecting Japanese culture thing is little cringy.

Most of Japanese games that have western settings are they accurate? Not really, does it matter? Not really.

For me she was a nice twist to sumo type character in fighting games.

True, but I don't think King of Fighters ever wanted to represent actual history or anything, which is awesome btw because they can take inspiration without actually following any rules. AC is different because they are using this as a selling point.

Not really. Whenever a bout ends with one of the combatants injured they throw salt to purify it, it was not because a woman entered the ring.
The case when this happened it wasn't a combatant getting injured but someone giving a speech that collapsed. They even apologized afterwards as it generated controversy.

None of games do even the ones with historical setting. people should really stop expecting these games to be accurate to actual settings.

I stand corrected if it wasn't a combatant, however someone getting injured or falling ill in the dojo regardless of who or why is enough to throw salt. Had Trump had a heart attack there and only male carried him away they would have thrown salt as well to prevent that from happening again.

Agreed. But wasn't it companies like Ubisoft going all-in on "representation" and "sensitivity training" and "white privilege" and all this other nonsense? I think it's justified that people point out any potential hypocrisy.

No. Because they could simply said "hey its a fictional game with fictional characters that doesn't represent history neither are based on real people". Instead they stick with the whole accuracy, said to have experts in japanese culture (which btw is somehow ok with some fellas that use the whole expert backflip at criticism) while still suck at their jobs.

We are talking about Ubisoft, of course she is a sumo wrestler because if female wrestlers are not allowed in the ring then this itself is an opportunity for them to preach about the whole japanese is toxic culture.
I’ll tell you what when I play the game and see them pushing why women sumo wrestlers needs to be a thing in the game I’ll agree with you but if she’s just another character in the game I won’t care lol

This is not on people, its on Ubisoft. They are the ones stating this game accuracy, not people.
Danjin I respect you and your opinion, but trying to picture this as the other way around its not cool.

If you end up being right then I totally agree with you, would be no big deal at all.

They just did a better job actually representing other regions of the world, and have made more fuck-ups on this than any other game.

Yeah, some people are being pedantic and unfair, but Ubisoft is just fucking lazy with this game in actually researching even basic architecture shit they've consistently nailed well enough in other games for the virtual tourism.

Man, nobody would be dissecting the game or (pretending to) give a fuck about any of this if they had just used a Japanese man instead of Yasuke.
Nailed it.

This game is doomed and it hasn’t released yet. Wait until people get their hands on it.

Got my popcorn ready for Veilguard 2.0.
