I'm scared and excited at the same time. Scared about what they might've changed that I didn't want changed. Excited about getting to replay one of my all-time favorites upgraded visually and gameplaywise.

At the moment I just go aimlessly between games in my library, so far this weekend I've played; Avowed, Pixeljunk Shooter 1,2, Ori 1, Hollow Knight, Black Myth, Wreckfest 2. Couple hours here and there. Zero focus.
😵‍💫
Release the game Bethesdaaaaa!!!
Yep, know the feeling. Can't start anything, don't want to start anything (except Oblivion).

What build are people running?

I ran the stealth/archer build but I think I might go mage for Remaster.

...but will probably go stealth/archer again.

We're getting closer guys!

And no, this is not a non Steam game added to Steam as those don't have the store page or even the uninstall button.

If you can make custom classes I'll roll a spellsword build with Destruction, Alteration, Restoration, Long Sword, Alchemy and whatever else.

Alright it looks like things are starting to accelerate, the Remaster has it's own category on Twitch

How does this compare to skyrim? I've never played this before. Is it the same without dragons or what?

Skyrim did a lot of streamlining and made some really good changes. But man Oblivion was just a complete and total package for me. Better writing, better quests, better guilds, Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion makes Skyrims DB quest line look amateur in comparison.

If this is just oblivion with a new coat of paint, I will be disappointed.
By Virtuos' Design Director himself:

Nicolas Roginski: We are working on a very big, unannounced project. Our approach for the design work of this remake is simple but challenging. It's challenging, mainly because of players' perception of their old memories. We tend to recollect things much better than they really were. Hence, if we deliver the reality of what gaming was like in the earlier days, there is a good chance that players will be disappointed because it won't match the "feeling" of their memories.

To produce a quality remake, we aim at recreating the "feeling of the memory", not the actual memory. Our design approach at Virtuos is "Keep, Improve, Create":

Keep what is core to the original vision and core memories players have of the original game

Improve what you need to modernize because standards have evolved

Create in the sense of what needs to be removed or added to surprise the player, and set a new standard for the genre, which has evolved over the years

Almost exactly what I freed up in anticipation! It is meant to be and is as foretold!

Avowed had some really good draw distance and performance - granted Oblivion is physically much larger in terms of one area, I am still hopeful that maybe something... is going to work out. Not optimistic about the engine change but trying to be willfully ignorant and optimistic about it all.

If you want to put it real simple, Skyrim is Oblivion with much better world and dungeon design but a much worse quest design and writing. So if quests are important to you, boy, you are in for a treat. Not only are all the major guilds quest lines longer and better but there are so many random quests going on that will just blow your mind.

Downside is that the main world looks quite similar everywhere and so do many of the dungeons. So it depends on where you have your preferences.

Is this how they're going to justify making it a Souls-like? (if that rumor is true)

I think it's quite unlikely that there are any changes/improvements aside from the graphics as they literally call it a Remaster. I can't think of any Remaster in the past few years that was more than a new coat of paint. Hell, Crash Trilogy even had like the same controls as a PSone game.
