Okay? And what does that do except make the graphics a little prettier?

It makes graphics better and also allows you to play a 2023 AAA Nintendo game made in a Wii U game engine on a modern living room TV without looking like a pixelated mess.

Switch is a bitch on the type of TV a normal family has in the living room with its biggest games like Zelda. Next system we will want something newer than Wii U graphics, and better resolution than vaseline screen. If they want that in a handheld with Nintendo pricing, the only answer is AI upscaling.

Edit: maybe you don't appreciate the massive amount of power required to push 4k. It's completely mandated by modern TV sizes, Switch 1 is too old. If Nintendo tried to squeeze out 4k without AI, they would struggle and get a handheld around the same graphics as Switch 1, with little improvement. Next Switch would give you same BOTW in 4k and that's it.
