I put a resume up on Monster.com because someone recommended it to me.

Now two days later I've gotten a few replies of companies wanting me to go to interviews and stuff but it feels like these were just done by a computer that grabs any applicant within a certain distance from the company and sends them this e-mail. In other words I don't think anyone actually read my resume so I'm wondering on these kind of things if I should followup on them? Neither has anything to do with my speciality (Japanese translation work), both are just normal accounting type jobs. I need some advice from people ^^;

Thanks,

Bioware has a job posting for a translation producer's assistant. Dunno if moving to where Bioware is (Edmonton, Ab. Canada) is at all viable for you.

I'm guessing they're financial services jobs. Probably form Citibank, Amex, Edward jones, and other. There's a large group of finance companies, especially those that own insurance, credit, stock, and banking arms, hunting for people with Bachelor's degress and using them to financially advise people. The financial advice they offer generally involves moving their debt and insurance, and savings, etc. Over to the companies various arm's consolidating it, and making it one bill.

Has ANYONE here ever gotten a job through Monster or HotJobs? Seems like they're just another way for solicitors to harvest emails for spam,mostly for "how to get a job"type services.

Pretty much every job board has spiders trolling it for active e-mail links. You're going to get a lot of automated stuff, a lot of generic sales positions that are dressed up to look interesting, and a lot of generally weird shit (I got one allegedly from the FBI, claiming that I'm "perfect" for a beginner agent...or something.) You just need to filter it out. Occasionally a real, live human being will make contact with a legit offer.

I have. Got my current tech support job through a recruiter finding my resume there (replying to postings got me nowhere). It started out as a temp position but I got hired on permanently, with benefits and a nice salary increase, earlier this summer.

I got my job at from a listing on hotjobs.com or monster.com I don't remember witch.

Just don't wait to be contacted, actively search the listing daily and you may just luck out.
