My God this movie was amazing. This is now my favorite Keanu Reeves movie. Those fights he had with Common were impressive as hell. Just the whole tactical nature of how he took out enemies was so effortlessly enjoyable.
Hmm under 90% now perhaps I should cancel my Saturday pre order.
Looked at the run time and I'm a little worried this got The Raid 2-ed, too much of what was originally a leaner and better thing.
I saw an advance screening back in december. The movie was unfinished. I wonder if my opinions still apply.
for me, the movie was uneven. The first half kind of sucked, up until he came back frok rome. When he was being hunted in ny, it became good though.
Does the movie still end with him chasing the villain to the hotel and killing him in the bar? They asked a lot of questions about the ending in our post viewing survey. I assumed they had filmed multiple endings and we're deciding on which to run with. Excommunicado?
Spoiler-free review:
My biggest fear going into John Wick 2 was that the film would be too aware of how cool the first movie was, and use it as a crutch while being too in love with itself.
When the film starts, it honestly seems like that's the case.
However, once things get rolling it goes some really interesting places and honestly, I probably enjoyed it far more than the first film.
I think the first movie is a better film on its own (tighter, clearer story, standalone) but booooooy does John Wick kill a lot of fucking people in this movie. The action is way better than the first, and it helps that there's actually killers that actually pose a threat to him this time around.
God damn what a movie. Gorgeous visuals too
I like the sound of that. Can't wait to see this later todayYeah they weren't afraid to fuck him up this time around. The number of times he gets shot, stabbed, manhandled, and hit by cars is crazy.
Do you really care about this shit?Have they ever explained what those coins they pay for everything are worth? He gave the gun guy 1 for 4 guns, the blueprint guy 4 coins for the prints and they payed for their 2 drinks with 1 coin.
This post escalated rather quicklyDo you really care about this shit?
I'm honestly asking, because seriously, I think it's pretty obvious they just wanted something that looks cool and a bit weird but still understood as money. It gives texture to this surreal world and it sidesteps the issue of people thinking things like "well that a lot of money for cleaning up a house" which is not what you want your audience to be doing.
Do you really think a movie like John Wick needs an expository dialog explaining how their monetary system came to be?
Yeah, you could come up with something, it's fiction, you can pull whatever you want out of your ass, but I think it will almost certainly be more boring than the light mystery that we have now.
That mindset is what got us the fucking Star Wars prequels and Matrix sequels.
I'm not saying you're responsible for them, that would be silly, but I am saying the Jar Jar Binks is 100% your personal fault and you should be ashamed.
I did also think about it, but I don't need an answer for it. It was interesting what was worth more than something else, even though I would think what was worth more would be less, and vice versa. But yeah in the end, it doesn't matter at all.Do you really care about this shit?

Saw it tonight. I really enjoyed it, particularly the additional world building. The ending was better than the first, though that's a relatively low bar. I didn't care much for the first half hour or so, aside from the bits of humor at the very beginning.
For someone who saw it, can you explain themarker scene at the end?
Reading through this thread I'm surprised to see people weren't diggingRome
That's when the movie got interesting for me. Loved it
But what if there areI've been calling it the Empire Strikes Back to John Wick 1's New Hope, and I'm curious if other people will agree. It's the dark middle chapter, but I'm pretty sure that if part 3 is the finale, there won't be no any Ewoks
So are Cassian and the female bodyguard definitely dead? Or both still alive? Or one of the other? It seems a little cheap that they kept death ambiguous for the both of them. Kill a character or don't, but it is cheesy to try and have it both ways for two of the principal villains......especially when you do it the same way both times, with a knife stuck in each one's chest.
I think for some people it wasn't too different from what we got in the last movie. It really introduced some new and inventive set pieces when he was being stalked in public by assassins. I really enjoyed Rome though. One of the best "gear up" scenes in an action movie ever. And anytime he faces off with Cassian was badass.
I can see that. I definitely had a feeling of "well we have to have another dance club shootout" (which was my favorite in the first) but it still ended up being awesome. Plus the bit with whatsherface in the tub was some eerie shit. As an Argento fan I'm a sucker for artsy kills
I think going on stage with the band was a bit much (also though how they kept filming it like it was an actual performance was weird) but the music was cool and the headshots were flowing. All I could think while watching that scene was "this is the most videogame protagonist shooting a bunch of enemies scene I've ever seen"

The Rome, however short it was, represented the essence of Hitman far better than both of the official movies combined.assassination
So good.
Yeah this is the best scene in the film, imo.silencer scene in the subway. Wowwwwww
Holy shit chapter 2 was fantastic. The opening was great. I was so torn on whether to get a Mossberg 500 or a Benelli M4. Looks like this movie helped me make up my mind! Sommelier: "The Benelli M4, an Italian classic." John Wick: "A title well deserved."
I still believe he should've kept the 1970 Chevelle SS instead of bother with his 1969 Mustang. Fuck Mustangs.
Yeah this is the best scene in the film, imo.
Just saw it. Fucking amazing man.
Almost everything was better than the first.
the last setting was great with all those mirrors.
One gripe though, some civilians are oblivious while John is killing those assassins in public.
I didn't even ser one fucking cop after his house was blown. Lol
Question though:will Cassian live? I thought he was great.
