JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The Animation |OT| Your next post will be... OH MY GOD!

It's mainly the stands. Besides the
castlevania like
plot isn't loved by many. However I would prefer this adaption over the ova series any time. These two parts are very enjoyable and contain a lot of manly scenes.

Jojo 3

That was incredibly over the top and AWESOME.

As always, the art and style really helped by making up for lackluster animation, and the whole thing was soooooo good.

I didn't expected Jojo to beat Dio, it was a nice surprise. And lol Speedwagon, you think he's here for the cool factor and he gets shafted so hard ahah.

I watched the second episode yesterday and loved it. I was sort of on the fence on the first episode, but the second really made it click. It's hilarious so far and I'm tempted to start reading the manga, though I know that'll make the wait even worse.

Those first two episodes are amazing. With this and Psycho-pass I think I can keep myself occupied - but I'm very tempted to read the manga...what do you say GAF? Should I read or wait patiently for each episode?

You guys should read the manga just to see how much stuff got censored. If not now, definitely read parts 3 and up when the anime ends.

My only complain so far...

Dat censorship
This is seriously a screencrap from today. Well, can't say there's no good reason to not get the BRs now I guess.

Yeah, Jojo is all about being totally over the top, and every moment being less and less predictiable. It's going to be a really crazy ride if they can do the manga justice. :D

The scene where Jojo was fighting those guys and the aftermath where the guy is suddenly convinced by Jojo's manly virtue to behave right was what made it click for me. It was so hilariously cheesy in a good way.

Time for episode three soon!

I expect to see a lot more of that in the future.

JoJo episode 3

Despite the terrible CG fire and copious censoring, this was probably my favorite episode so far,
Dio's transformation
was really well done.

We can agree on something!

There's only one part in this episode that would need to be censored right?
Dio ripping half that guy's face off through the window?

Along with
Dio's policeman massacre, JoJo beheading a zombie with a spear and Dio being impaled by the statue.

Using spoilers feels so wrong. Can't we just apply ManGAF rules?

However, the
head rip
was the only scene that really got the "so dark you can't see anything" treatment. The others were at least somewhat visible.

... What is Duwang?

A group that translated the manga with super broken English, untranslated lines, and bad quality all around. Pretty much Hong Kong bootleg subs quality.

Apparently someone is doing the same for the anime, but intentionally as an in-joke reference to the poor manga translations. Every subbed screen from this page seems to be Duwang.

Episode 3

Most of it was really well done, and the credit probably goes to the cast. The voice cast for the show is fantastic and they're really in-character. Koyasu is AWESOME as Dio. The biggest issues with the production continue to be the budget and digital effects. The CG is plain bad, especially the low-resolution fire effects. There isn't a ton of animation either, but the art team uses solid key poses to carry the impact of the visuals. Despite all the shortcomings, the show is still really enjoyable. I could just close my eyes and listen to Jojo and Dio trade lines all day. Mmmm.

The CG is plain bad
Eh, I'm worried about when (if?) they get to Part 3, because I can see them using CG for Stands to make them stand out and such, and float.

Ep 3

WRYYYYYYYYYYYY

That was great leaving aside the CG flames.

Jojo saying "This is not a plan, it is bravery!" was so badass.

Zeppeli look FABULOUS in the preview.

I doubt that'll happen unless they somehow got a huge budget boost. The backgrounds are CG because it is cheaper and faster for some background art studios to do it this way, rather than hiring more artists to do painted backdrops for every scene and angle. This is pretty low budget production to begin with, so I can't really imagine that they'll be able to do full CG animated characters like Stands. The opening animation is done by a different studio which specializes in CG animation.

Ep 3

Yeah, courage!

There was censorship, but I don't even care. This was some endgame shit right here, and we're only on episode 3! The segment while Dio and JoJo were
descending into the flames
was incredible.

That's some Indiana Jones shit right there. When did you become cool like Joseph, Jonathan?

This thing could end right now and I would call it a success. Seriously, what a great adaptation so far.

And next week is Zeppeli! Shit is going to get so real. Can't wait for what's to come.

It certainly got bizarre. So Dio is now a vampire...thing? The censorship is really disappointing, you just see swathes of black covering stuff. What happened to the Saint Seiya days when we got violence in all its glory?

The show seems pretty violent as it is. It's not like they're cutting away when someone gets stabbed, or not showing blood. Maybe you remember Saint Seiya being more violent than it actually is, because at no point did they show half of someone's head being severed and thrown onto the floor. :P

It's problematic to show direct dismemberment or too much grotesque stuff on free to air channels. I mean seriously, are you saying that the show doesn't have violence in "all its glory" for most of the scenes? Seriously?

C'mon.

To be fair, Fist of the North Star was censored A LOT more than this is, and that's from the same era.

The shadows didn't bother me much, because the way the scene was shot (Dio's face was always half-shadowed for instance), it seemed more like an artistic choice than simply a censorship technique.

Most of JoJo's violence is psychologically creepy beyond simply the gore, so it still worked imo.

Minor Part 2 spoiler
I hope they cut out that one scene in Part 2 with the soldier and Santana though...that scene seriously is the only part of JoJo I can't reread

lulz i guess

Honestly the censorship itself didn't bother me that much, but it's annoying how they do it. I'd like it better if they just animated it in some other manner instead.

OHHHHHHH GODDAMN THIS EPISODE WAS GODLIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Koyasu is great at doing Dio but im too used to the classic WRYYYYYYYYY used in the video games. seriously im not diggint the wryyys anything else is AWESOME.
i really hope as the series continues Dio's voice (koyasu) gets deeper. Next episode is gonna be so fucking awesome!!! ZEPELLI!!!!!!!!!!

you mean the one
where they were all in the lab with the nazis and shit? santana reviving talking like an infant or someone with mental problems? well for a couple of chapters till he learns to talk lol.

fake edit: if this wasnt censorship then the blu ray's or dvd's wont be getting all the blood and gore missing from the episode?

Reasons why next week needs to get here faster.

Anyways, finally saw the sub. The episode was awesome, and the VAs are a big part of the reason for that. Seriously, Dio's "Jojo!"s and "Wryyyyy/Ureyyyyy/Uryyyy"s are so great.

And damn, we're getting
Zombie Jack the Ripper
next week already? Wonder how they're going to handle THAT entrance.

lulz i guess

Well, they do it this way because the BRs are going to have those scenes in all their uncensored glory, it's just a thing for TV.

THIS. I don't like Koyasu's WRRRYYYYs at all, I can only imagine them as excited screams. Enjoyed this episode a lot though, Speedwagon's lines are so hilariously overacted.

JoJo - Ep. 3

Fuck yessss! While it certainly wasn't as graphic as its manga counterpart, it did seem more emotional. Awesome episode, and it'll get even better once things get a little more technical. Look forward to that Ripple, folks. Dio's last WRYYY was pretty good, and the muda muda muda was what I expected, given that the VA also did Aokiji from OP.

So... you'd rather use the Japanese term, is that it, sprsk? Why would those characters suddenly speak Japanese though?

Yesss Ripple next episode.

Zepelli is one of my favourite characters in the whole series, so bad that he's relegated to the worst part haha

No, def not use the Japanese word. But because the martial art (my guess is Tibetan? They just say oriental in the manga) is eastern in origin, so we dont have to us english here either really.

I mean just look at that English "teach me how to use the ripple!" "The ripple" is also referred early on as "波紋エネルギー" and "ripple energy", while still wonky and bad, is better than just "ripple."

Maybe it's just because fan translations have terrible writing that makes it seem worse than actually is, I dunno. It's lacking in flavor and just sounds like direct translation. I honestly think the series deserves better.

You're really trying too hard. It's just a normal word which the author used to create something really cool in the story. Ripple is the correct translation, and should be the only translation for the intent of the text. It's not lacking in flavor, unless you think the Japanese text is also lacking in flavor. Is it weird to hear someone talk about ripples as some super power? Sure. Is it the point of Jojo to take "normal" things and turn them crazy? Absolutely.

Edit: This is what happens when wankers who think they're really fucking smart and "creative" come up with over-complex original "translations" to add "flavor" to subtitles:

Fucking awful. :P

I wouldn't say "波紋 / hamon" is the name of a martial art. If anything, I think that would be "仙道 / sendô", which is admittedly a bit tricky to translate (I seem to remember I went with the Chinese equivalent when I translated that part... Sanskrit would be nice though).

I mean just look at that English "teach me how to use the ripple!"
About as weird as in Japanese. :þ
