I wouldn't say "波紋 / hamon" is the name of a martial art. If anything, I think that would be "仙道 / sendô", which is admittedly a bit tricky to translate (I seem to remember I went with the Chinese equivalent when I translated that part... Sanskrit would be nice though).

Yeah, ripple refers to the source of the power, and the nature of it. I think it would be a mistake to give it anything with additional flavor because it is basically just the explanation for the power.

About as weird as in Japanese. :þ

Ehhh I think you guys are kind of excusing it but I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

This episode was kind of ugly and awkwardly made in places, but so was every other episode so I've come to expect that.

Ep 3

Really mixed feelings on the episode. Action and such felt kind of low key at times or rather uninteresting. I kept zoning out of it, however seeing the magnificent and splendid feats of Dio continued to bring me back. Id be lying if I said I didnt enjoy at least the climax and resolution to the big event.
Was so distressed when Dio's plan was revealed to all, he just cant ever truly catch a break when his plans are in motion, and even worst the final fate, if he is truly dead and gone, then Im out. I cant even because that was just so unfair, to think a statue of love is used for death

Started to warm up to Speedwagon, so he better stick around and continue to help his Mr. Joestar!

What would the Sanskrit even be? The sen part is easy as ṛṣi, but using do like that is a Chinese invention and I'm not sure how it stacks up with traditional Sanskrit writing.

... Which is why I went with the Chinese in the end. ^^;

Just re-reading the manga counterpart.

Damn.. Araki's drawing and scene composition still awful as hell back then, in fact I just remembered I don't understand jackshit in my first time reading and the anime made me know Jonathan pulling some Indiana Jones shit to beat Dio.

Even with the censor and stuff, thing's more clear in the anime lol.

Using hsien-tao rather than xiandao for period flavor is kind of tempting. I should probably stop thinking too hard about it, though.
Yeah, I thought about other transliteration systems but just stopped at "xiandao". I reasoned that some readers would yell at me for not keeping the Japanese anyway, so maybe it was time to stop fiddling with that and just move on to the next speech bubble. ^^
(naturally, I did get some complaints)

you mean the one
where they were all in the lab with the nazis and shit? santana reviving talking like an infant or someone with mental problems? well for a couple of chapters till he learns to talk lol.

Nah, it's when he jumps through that soldier's eyes and the soldier bloats up and shit...yuck.

Did you even actually watch the last moments of the episode?

There is still a part before the preview in the "credits". There is no ending(read Roundabout) this time though.

Shocking. Forgot this GAR fight, JoJo!

Still ugly as sin with source material that's very entertaining.

Still good. The CG flames were actually pretty comedic and I couldn't stop smirking while watching, and the overall quality of the animation is still low, but I can't help but love it so much. The censorship wasn't nearly as bad as some people made out, so that's good news! The fight was very well done and super action packed, I could listen to Dio and JoJo for hours, fantastic job Koyasu and Okitsu! Speedwagon... such a bro but such a baby, it seems. Very romantic looking when JoJo was seemingly holding him in his arms after he was talking about saps who hold dying people. :lol And... what am I missing...? Oh, yes! UUURRRRYYYYYYY

So, the number of chapter per episode so far.

Episode 1: 1-5
Episode 2: 6-10
Episode 3: 11-16

So, they have been keeping it at more or less 5 chapters per episode, at that pace, Part 1 will likely end at episode 9 or 10, unless they give more time to the later parts.

First anime I'm watching in years… So good! Hope it's successful so we get more stuff beyond this series of 26 eps.

Yeah I have to agree, it's pretty low effort if it's supposed to pass off as the horrible manga era of bad English sentences translated from Chinese translated from Japanese. Aside from the crappy use of caps, most of those sentences seem mostly grammatically correct. That kinda defeats the purpose! Lol.

You're really trying too hard. It's just a normal word which the author used to create something really cool in the story. Ripple is the correct translation, and should be the only translation for the intent of the text. It's not lacking in flavor, unless you think the Japanese text is also lacking in flavor. Is it weird to hear someone talk about ripples as some super power? Sure. Is it the point of Jojo to take "normal" things and turn them crazy? Absolutely.

Edit: This is what happens when wankers who think they're really fucking smart and "creative" come up with over-complex original "translations" to add "flavor" to subtitles:

Fucking awful. :P

Can't wait until
Pluck
happens.

I've been reading the manga series, but I just got to the part where the new translation of Part 4 stops and all I have is Duwang...

Should I bother continuing?

Yeah, Part 5 and 6 are translated by other groups, and part 4 is good if you can get though the awful quality.

The endgame is totally worth tolerating the Duwang though. Just be sure to reread it when it's fully retranslated.

Supposedly Vento Aureo also has bad translations that rob characters of their personality, but I still enjoyed it a lot. There's a retranslation going on for that part too, but it's really slow since it's pretty much a one-woman project.

Also, Erina <3

I would post all screencaps I took of her, but then I'd be cluttering the page too much >.>

And seriously, at the pace this is going, Battle Tendency will be starting on episode 10 at the latest.

I found it weird that they'd cut a scene from the Hamon training that's going to be referenced later, but I guess it had to be done to do the fight at the end properly. Speaking of said fight, I'm glad that they didn't have to cut
zombie Jack the Ripper's coming out from inside the body of a decapitated horse.
