I'm pretty sure its pretty well established what lifts the curse on Angel. If you want to call that plot armor then fine. They used it sparingly and where it made sense.

And, yeah, having sex with your soul mate probably makes anyone pretty damn happy. Thats the whole point to the gypsy curse. Angel is forced to walk the earth, never to know love again.
