fantasy booking ..

Punk wins MITB, starts to exit the ring with the belt ..

Vince's music hits while John Cena recovers

Vince instructs Cena to take down Punk and get the title back

Cena goes to attack Punk .. but then stops .. makes a gesture to just leave. Vince is irate and asks more wrestlers and security to help out to stop Punk!

Punk gets on the mic and says to Chi-town .. "If you love me, you'll let me leave". Punk jumps through the barrier as his peeps in Chicago allow him to escape.

Next Monday on RAW .. Vince tells Cena .. I made you, I'll destroy you .. Cena turns heel out of frustration. Frustrated by fans booing him. The corporation using him as their poster child, etc.

Punk enjoys a 3 month vacation .. comes back, rehired by Vince to take down Cena.

EDIT ... FRUCK .. just read the spoiler for next week so booking won't work. In the words of Ron Simmons .. "DAMNNNN"

Saw Punk this month at a house show. It was the first WWE event I've been to since '90 RR. I'm planning on ordering the PPV unless they pull him off storyline wise. It will be the first PPV ordered or watched since WM 21. If this is Punk's big chance to shine for the company and prove his value, I'm going to support him. The guy entertains me to no end.

Some of us haven't commented on Punk's legendary promo at all.

For what it's worth, my bet is that he had clearance to shoot (the mic cut out was clearly scripted), went a little further than people expected him to, the suspension was handed down and they haven't decided yet as to whether or not to future endeavour him or to play out the suspension storyline and still roll ahead with the match. We may have a better idea once this 2nd RAW taping is completed but my bet is we probably won't.

Think you should just stick to bitching about WWE every other post like normal.

Anyway for what it's worth I thought Raw was really good even before the Punk promo, Cara - Bourne, Kofi - Dolph and the tag match were all really good TV matches, the tag in particular surprised me how intense the ending was.

I love how they are building up Henry as well I wish he could get 1 short title reign but he wont.

I will be ordering the PPV as well. Punk is the only wrestler today that sparks my interest in this business. He is doing something historical. Similar to the creation of "Austin 3:16", the formation of the Outsiders, the night WCW was bought by WWE, ECW Invasion (first one), and to a lesser extent .. the creation of Nexus.

As crazy as it sounds, I'm buying the PPV for one match .. one man. I think the MITB ladder match will be stellar anyway and the midcards will perform well enough for the $45 investment.

The Punk stuff is fun and compelling as hell. Now let's see if smarks will put their money where their mouth is and actually pay for and order this PPV. This is a chance to prove that storylines matter.

That promo alone made me buy the PPV instead of lamping it.

I'm so glad a lot of people feel the same way. Look at the positives - you're supporting something you're interested in, voting with your wallet, and showing that you give a shit about one man - that one man can be important enough to drive a PPV.

If this show does awesome buyrates, that's a BIG thing Punk can bring to the table to talk about another contract in the future. "Yes, I put butts in the seats."

The angle is doing it's job.

I've got Facebook friends posting Punk's promo as real.

I can't remember the last time that happened.

The only thing running through my mind is "Please Vince don't fuck this up." I have 100% faith in everyone involved except him !

Considering the PPV is in Chicago .. genius of the WWE to show that exclusive video of Punk singing Sinatra to the Sin City crowd. Not sure if it's still up considering the angle is to take Punk's profile off of WWE.com.

This should butter up the Chicago fans (who are already nuts for Punk as it is and the WWE) to buy tickets.

Ha, those guys are subscribed to the same Word of the Day newsletter I am. I got that word at 12:35AM last night.

Just so anyone who cares doesn't have to look it up, it means "boastful", and it's derived from the name of a character in an Ancient Roman comedy.

That's fucking funny. :D

The Punk I've seen on screen many times reminds me of the Punk I've been hearing in shoot interviews for years. With him, there can be a fine line. And that's what makes him so special. His personality translates well to entertaining.

Liu is a smart smark and can't grasp that it might be possible that Vinny Mac trusted Punk on this one, but with some ground rules.
There was a match he had while in ROH that took place in a strip club. He yelled at on eof the strippers "YOU'RE A WHORE" while she was dancing, right in the middle of the match.

She apparently was really hurt over it and complained ot ROH management about it.

I have also heard stories of Punk mouthing off some of the well-known ebay merchandise scalpers when they approached him for an autograph at a session a few years back.

Then there's the whole suit thing with Taker. Taker basically told Punk that as the champion, he had to represent the company and carry a good image by wearing a suit backstage and to press conferences and the like. Punk responded by asking Taker why, if that was the case, Cena was walking around in a t-shirt and jean-shorts? (At the time, Cena was the other brand's champion). It osmehow got around to management, and they took it as a sign of disrespect of them, so they had Taker squash Punk for the title.

Basically, Punk is a straight-shooter.

Plinko said:
Isn't it obvious that Punk is re-signing now?
Seems obvious that he isn't going to waltz back to ROH or another promotion now that he's been allowed to play that possibility up in an angle.

I do think he'll take time off (and not necessarily re-sign right away) but it will be under a good faith agreement similar to what Jericho, Batista and Michaels have historically left with.

I saw that match but I don't think it was RoH (it was some real backwoods stuff) so I'm not sure how the last bit really went. Definitely worth watching - he yells it in her face. Great stuff.

Yeah, that match was from Full Impact Pro out of Florida - on the CM Punk/Samoa Joe shoot interview he said the girl was apparently upset about it and Homicide made him go apologise, so he goes over to her car after the show and says to her "I'm sorry, but you're still a whore".

I'd love if Punk wins the title and have that leading to WWE's wrestlers chasing him around the world, joining different promotions trying to get the title back.

But I don't think that's ever going to happen.

I'll be buying it. It will be only the third PPV I'll have bought in the last 2 years.

I had a similar kind of run, I stopped ever since Over The Limit 2010 which was so godawful because EVERY SINGLE FACE WON and it was Batista's last match if my memory serves, but this is compelling and I am prepared to shell out the cash.

I think last night's angle was the beginning of WWE's move to turn him into the next Stone Cold Steve Austin, something they've desperately needed for years.

If he keeps putting on promos like that fans will start to cheer him in no time. They want that "threat to authority" wrestler that hasn't been present for quite some time.

So I just watched Raw...

Oh sweet ending on a Punk promo.

...

HOLY SHIT.

holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit-

Seriously, the WWE hasn't connected with me like this in ages. The credibility of Punk tonight was on a level I've never before seen. This is why we don't need stupid gimmicks and nonsensical story lines. What we need is legitimacy in what has been a stale product for the last few years. We've seen the brilliance of R-Truth being himself in recent weeks and now the most energetic performance I've ever seen.

If this is part of a storyline, I bet management right now are finally coming to terms on what they have lost. Wow.

edit: Also, we'll probably get a confirmation if it was a shoot once we see the replays overseas. I'll let ya'll know once I see the Australia taping tomorrow, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of Punk's comments are cutout.

I decided to look back at 1998 WWF PPV cards to make sure I wasn't crazy about remembering them being lacking until the main events.

Here is a great example. In Your House: Breakdown in September 1998.

-- Owen Hart defeated Edge
-- Al Snow & Scorpio defeated Too Much
-- Marc Mero defeated Droz
-- Bradshaw defeated Vader in a Falls Count Anywhere match
-- D'Lo Brown defeated Gangrel
-- The Rock defeated Ken Shamrock and Mankind in a Triple Threat Cage match
-- Val Venis defeated Dustin Runnels
-- The New Age Outlaws & X-Pac defeated Jeff Jarrett & Southern Justice
-- The Undertaker and Kane simultaneously pinned Stone Cold Steve Austin in a Triple Threat Match for the WWF Title

...yikes.

Come on now, back in 98 Bradshaw was the less cool member of APA and who is Droz? That card still looks pretty good though.

I would buy the ppv but in this case I don't have to because it's a free one in the UK, seems fair to me since I've paid for a fair amount of disappointing WWE ppvs over the years. I actually got last years money in the bank on dvd so I could rewatch a night of Kane greatness
(greatness being subjective of course on wether you were a kane fan or not, still both ladder matches were good)
.

So how about the raw MITB match? Should be interesting to see Rey in one of these for the first time, aside from Riley there are a lot of good entries into the match, hoping for a Kofi Kingston victory myself. It'll be interesting to see the smackdown participants since the brand is so barebones.

I get my kicks looking at sycophants and "fans" who watch a product they don't like every week like battered wives.

And when this is thrown into their face,
like tonight
they are completely oblivious to it.

He might as well be gone right now. I only watch shows that i think are consistently good. I don't see the enjoyment in watching a show i'm just going to bitch about all night long.

However it is funny seeing people who act like smarks all the time and bitch about the WWE every week, roll over because one guy cuts a promo full of red meat.
So much hypocrisy in your post. You hate that we do nothing but bitch about the WWE, which isn't even true to begin with. You hate reading our complaints and how we're dogging on the product -- rightfully so in many regards. Yet, you constantly come in here and ridicule us.

And then you turn around and say that you don't watch products that you're going to bitch about. So why the hell are you constantly in here bitching about our bitching?

Wow, I'm shocked about Rey. Would have sworn he'd been in a MITB match before but you're absolutely right... this is the first time for him. Very surprising given his high flying style. Especially when you consider that Shelton Benjamin has been in 5 of these matches.

Best guess on the Smackdown MITB participants:

Wade Barrett
Daniel Bryan
Ted DiBiase
Ezekiel Jackson
Kane
Cody Rhodes
Sin Cara

8th person could be Sheamus (if they conveniently forget Orton punted him in the head), Yoshi Tatsu, Jinder Mahal (undeserving but would continue his push and open up the possibility of Khali assists) or Christian (taking an open slot if his title match loss to Orton kicks off the show). The best option is probably that last one.

Money in the Bank is officially on Sky Sports in the UK... so "free"

Sky and their crazy decisions. I feel they always end up putting the worst PPVs on Box Office

Khali just walks up, steps on the first rung and removes the belt. There ya go.

Droz used to be some weird guy that made himself puke for some reason. The was before D'Lo Brown botched a running powerbomb and dropped Droz on his neck. It paralyzed him from the neck down and he got a lifetime job writing for wwe.com and their magazine. He has since regained use of his arms but he is still wheelchair bound.

Oh, didn't know he got his arms back! That's really good to hear.

Droz was meant to be Puke, the 3rd member of the Legion of Doom. When that didn't pan out, it was for an unremarkable singles career, until the tragic accident. I believe part of the mistake was due to a fan throwing a drink in the ring? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but WWE now has a super strict DONT THROW SHIT rule at live events due to this.

I want to believe that the WWE will do something great with CM Punk after that promo -- but I just see Punk being fed to Cena and Vince doing the "Kiss My Ass" Club with Punk at the end of PPV. Vince will force Cena to have Punk 'kiss his ass' (or get 'fired' too) to send a message of "See? You don't say ANYTHING bad about the WWE or Vince McMahon." Even if the promo is part of the storyline, Vince McMahon NEVER lets anyone get one over on him.

GaimeGuy said:
spoilers about next week's raw:

The added stipulation all but confirms that Punk's beating Cena, then losing to the MitB winner immediately afterwards. The stipulation was that Cena's fired if Punk walks out the champion. Punk will become champion, but he won't walk out champion.
We all remember how those worked out before. :lol

Well the WCW Archive today hits 1999's Bash at the Beach. Some notable matches:

Chris Benoit and Perry Saturn vs DDP and Bam Bam Bigelow w/Kanyon - basically vs the Jersey Triad. Good stuff.

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Denm6L6MsbI

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsBrvF1YmUU

Also notable is the No Limit Soldiers vs the West Texas Rednecks. Incredibly bad and good.

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cRbDYaNR3U

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gInSNYKCtBI

I'm still rendering the main event, so don't get your hopes up for a classic!

Amidst all the talk about CM Punk's memorable promo last night, I feel that Rey Mysterio deserves some props as well.

The past couple of weeks, Mysterio has just been fantastic. Last night's tornado tag match in particular was very fun, as everyone involved hit their spots crisply and the crowd was red hot for the ending.

Rey is still a miniature Latino Cena. He still has his five moves of doom, still pops a capsule and kips up even after getting his ass beat, still no sells like no other and still does moves that have no impact. Much like Cena, part of that is his booking as a superman face. But he could still sell and do something other than a belly splash that just falls off the top rope.

Others will be tight-lipped and claim Rey is as proficient at burying as Triple H and as proficient at no-selling as John Cena. I will make no such claims and will give you my props for you to hand over to Rey.
