Just bought an iRiver H320

So far it's great, but I thought it came with a cradle and a remote. :( I've never used an iPod before so how does this iRiver compare with the iPod 20 gig or 20 gig photo. In terms of battery life, features, size, sound quality, interface, price, ect. ect? I don't think iPods have an FM tuner built in and I've heard of a lot of battery issues but I've not heard any solid criticism that didn't have a solid retort.

I still have time to take it back if there's anything better, ;) For around the same price at least. ($330)

iRiver is great. I've got one of their flash MP3 players. The cool thing is that they update the drivers like every second day, so check their website occasionally to get the latest features.

there's a cradle available now at the iriver america site. supposedly the lcd remote will be forthcoming, and will improve on the current H1 series remote, BUT you can still use a current H1 series remote on the H3 series, so if you get impatient that's an option.

the H3 should double the ipod battery life on average, and it has a few features (FM remote, recording, etc.) that require addons for the ipod. it also supports ogg, which the ipod doesn't and never will. it doesn't, however, support wav right now, although that's supposed to be fixed with a firmware update. supposedly it will also play movies in the future. again, firmware update. don't hold your breath on those two.

You made a good choice but you should of taken into account the Academic Discount that Apple provides (not sure if it would be cheaper than the 320 though). Apart from that if you're happy with the extra features that iRiver have (for the little extra money)- all the best to ya. Also I think the 320 can play (limited) video files and you can change the startup screen or something something.

By drivers do you mean firmware?

If so, you're mad. Don't get me wrong, I love my H140, but iRiver are infamous for firmware suckage. Just check out www.misticriver.net to see how irritated users have become! :lol

I've been waiting months for a promised gapless playback firmware, what did they give us? Gap delete. GAP DELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETE?!

Yeah, I meant firmware. Maybe things have changed, but with the iFP series, every time I loaded new firmware, there was a new feature added.
