Just Cause 2 |OT| of No Thread Name Can Do This Game Justice

i think im gonna get this game today, ps3 or 360 gaf? no pc here :(

From what I've seen, these are the comparisons of PS3 and Xbox;

PS3:
-10 minute gameplay record feature with automatic YouTube upload option
-30 second replay feature with automatic YouTube upload option
-No frame tearing

X360:
-Some frame tearing when fps is sub 30.

Average frame rate of both is ~29fps I think, according to a comparison benchmark test. But aside from the video record, it's down to the controller and comfort. Since there's no online, there's no benefit of getting it for the platform that most of your friends are on.

I think 360 has motion blur too.

But PS3 is the way to go if all else equal.

PS3 is the best option with the awesome youtube feature but the one thing 360 has in it's favor is custom soundtracks. I'm playing on the PS3 and sometimes I feel like it would be really nice to have my own music playing while I fly around and wreck havoc.

I had a nice kill against two enemies. I was at the bottom of Mile High Club and I tethered them together, making them both fall to their deaths at the same time.
'Twas pretty cool. It's like 20 seconds in. Two for One.
Oh and I had a plane pull me in a car. I didn't go too well at first but I made it off the ground and flew away with it. This is one of my faves so far: Gonna Hitch a Ride

Your 'two for one' video is set to private.

Thanks, I fixed it. I thought I already had it set, I wish they'd just be public from the start.

Man, you cut off at the best part. You should have followed them all the way down to their demise!

Is there any way to get health back easily? I just seem to take so much damage, I basically can't do anything else than hide at that point.

I know about the Health-packs at the gas-stations but there are waaaay too less of those..

Not really, probably one of the largest complaints I have with the game.

I got Virualdub and divx to re-encode my Fraps videos. It seems it doesn't like the dimensions of my Fraps videos when I start with 1080P and use the half size feature. It converted my half size 720P video fine, so I may just play at 720P and record them at full size for HD in YouTube.

What is everyone else doing on the PC side?

I just noticed the ski lift will kill any civilian which stands in its way. That's brutal.

Bolo Santosi, something like: "that officer is my favourite, and I do mean favourite in EVERY WAY"
And at another time with nerve gas, where the people couldn't move / resist, don't remember exactly what she said, but most things she speaks about sounds like they could have to do with sex in some way, unless it's just me lol.

Man the GPU water simulation option takes a big hit on the framerate, it still runs pretty good but I notice some slowdowns with it on, I ran the built in benchmark with these results:

GPU Water On: 56.08 FPS
GPU Water Off: 88.53 FPS

And what exactly is this Bokeh filter? I can hardly notice a difference with it on or off yet it also drops the framerate.

Yeah, the health system is pretty poor. It's like they couldn't decide whether to have regenerating health or health packs, and ended up not really doing either.
Fix the health and ammo and this would be Game of the Forever.
I only just found the capital city. Its like Spiderman vs Crackdown :)

I'd have the GPU water enabled if it only took the hit when the water was actually on screen but it makes your performance tank no matter what is going on and add in some weird hitching, just not worth it imo.

Bokeh filter is a different depth of field filter, its stronger and makes lights turn into pentagons, immatating some fancy camera lens trick. It looks worse imo as the background ends up way too blurry. Go into aim mode at night and look at some distant lights if you want to see how it looks.

"In time, you'll find me to be quite... pleasing as well"

Definitely not just you, and those are just off the top of my head and I'm like, 20% through the game :lol Dialogue is great, for everyone's characters. It's done really well, despite how many people take the piss, it's perfect for the game.

Just started this game. It is like crack, basically. I don't want to play anything else.

Seriously, I haven't been able to put FFXIII back in to finish the story cause I'm so hooked on this damn game. Missions and stuff arent even that great but just running around causing chaos is so much fun. Last night I surfed 747's into buildings, for some reason it was ridiculously fun. Oh and being able to attach pretty much anything to anything else is just awesome on so many levels.

If you take every last bit of Bolo's dialog as sexual, that mission where you are broadcasting the torture video around Panau becomes a mission about broadcasting Bolo Santosi's murder porn sex tape around Panau. I shouldn't have laughed, but I did. :lol

Does the Bolo mod act weird for anyone else? It make my game minimize and then when I maximize it the game is in some funky 640x480 mode or something.

I've been sick all day and had to take the day off work. After resting for a while I popped this in and started playing it. I didn't stop until 8 hours later. There are some truly incredible things in this game. There isn't a single thing that is better than anything else but it is the extremely wide open nature of the game that is killer.

My favorite thing I did all day was strafing an oil rig and watching it ignite in firey destruction. Then landing on it and grabbing the loot. Also had some perfect time and place deep dives to get the black boxes and surfacing to distorted rippling seas and blue skies.

I love how slow the time of day moves. There are some spectacularly moody moments especially at night in rainy lighting storms. I love the sort of 50's meets futuristic architecture of the cities and they nail the tropical colors and lighting. I do wish that the cities and streets were more alive with pedestrians.

There are a few things Just Cause 1 did a bit better visually. The smoke looked a bit better as it could be occluded with shadows giving it a volumetric appearance. I miss the light shafts on the horizon, and the motion blur was sexier even though it was overdone. Everything else is way better.

After playing a good deal of the first game I knew the sequel would be awesome and it hasn't dissapointed. Now get Test Drive Unlimited 2 going!

Ok folks, you have to have your submissions in by tomorrow at 12pm PST. The voting will go on until Friday 12pm PST. I will announce the winner on Saturday.

I will add the rules for voting in the OP.

Can I just go ahead and say fuck rocket launchers in this game? Seriously. Fuck them and their heat seeking nonsense killing me in one shot from three hundred yards with no warning whatsoever because I was looking the other way.

DAY TIME moves slowly, but the night hours, and the transitions to and from night are over much too quickly. I really hope a sequel would make nighttime longer, and allow for some stealth.

Hey sorry, a quick change to my submissions.

I notice that it looks like the most people have are 2 submissions and my skyscraper kill got bumped, so instead:

I'd like to replace the "Random Jet Crash" one with my skyscraper fall kill.

GoGamer.com has this in their 48-hour sale right now. $50 for PS3/360, $30 (!) for PC.

Fuuu, don't pass this up guys! Remember it registers on Steam so you don't miss out on anything by getting a disc copy. Spread the word!

There's a health pack at every military base and I've never not had one during a faction/agency mission, so you should be covered in most areas where you can attract heat.

Had to turn the voices off, for me it's gone past being bad and through 'so bad it's funny', into 'make it stop bad'
BOO THIS MAN.gif
. It was also the only way to deal with the interruptions from the dealer, faction leaders and Sheldon. Hearing the same clips every time you find a faction item is bizarre. The only thing I miss is Comical Ali on the radio.

Did my first race in a car last night. Near the end I wondered what the absolutely horrific din was and realised both rear tyres had been shot out so the rims were grinding on the road. Love it :D

Nice. Was going to wait for a Steam sale since I've got too much other stuff to play right now, but I think I'll get in on this.

OK.

So I got home last night, unwrapped my limited edition PS3 copy of JC2, validated the exclusive DLC stuff and sat down to play. First I simply messed around with completing the settlements to the South of the first safehouse. Then proceeded to do some stronghold takeovers, some minor faction missions, some agency missions and simple exploration stuff.

When I decided to end the first game session and saved the game manually just in case, the following numbers popped up on the screen:
  • Total game time - approximately 7h
  • Completion rate - 10%
I had played the game for seven hours straight. The last times I had done something like that were MGS4 and FFXIII.

The game is so awesome.

Yeah man, this bugs me. I wish there was an option like in Burnout Paradise to change it a bit. Seems like there's two solid hours of daylight followed by about 20 minutes of dusk/night/dawn, then right back into daylight. Lame.

I don't really mind this because, as with a lot of games, it's hard to see anything at night (realistic, I know!). Sure it's beautiful if you're flying up above the clouds, but if i'm down in some forest trying to complete a mission, I need to be able to know where i'm going.

Totally agree. It's a smart decision that serves the gameplay. Other free-roamers get most annoying at night.

Well I finally hit 40% complete last night in Mercenary Mode - only took 22 hours. :lol I really wish I could go back to Level 1 heat, mainly because the second I blow up a water tower, statue, or propaganda trailer, they send helicopter after helicopter to get me within about 10 seconds.

Also, don't try to pick up a statue head with the small news-style helicopter. It will only end badly.
