Just Married

It's been 8 weeks since the wedding and I'm only just getting around to reading the forum again. The wedding day, the honeymoon and married life has been blissfully amazing.

It's a good feeling to get to the day and be totally relaxed. All the crazy months leading up to the day (Anna still at uni, teaching piano 3 nights a week and doing a bulk of the wedding planning, me just starting full time work doing ~50 hour weeks) are so far behind you and you're just there to enjoy it all. My friends and I stayed at a nearby hotel the night before and they were good to me - I woke up with both eyebrows and still had my clothes on. I got into the some of the leftover Corona at about 10am, but was feeling so good about the day, I didn't even finish my first. I wasn't nervy, just happy-excited and I didn't want the alcohol.

The whole wedding was done on a shoe-string budget, heaps help from family, friends and bargaining with the hire/flower/photo/cake/venue places, but the whole day turned out so well. I do regret not getting my hair done on the day of the wedding (not the day before - the rainy weather didn't help either), and my best man was pretty much the worst best man ever. He drove the car off the road on the way to the ceremony, almost crashing. He totally blew his speech, and he started stalking one of the bridesmaids after the wedding. I love you Dan, you're incredible.

Anyway, I'll leave the rest of the story to the photos...

Heh, thats my little brother.

Rather than simultaneously reving my old wedding music thread and starting a new one for the photos, I'll throw in the conclusion to my search for reception music here. Anna had her favorite classical pieces played over dinner, leading into her favorite jazz and solo artists (stuff like Eva Cassidy and James Taylor), then my list led on from there. Once the dancing started, the DJ took over most of the selections, playing all the crowd favorites.

I kept my list pretty conservative, mostly playing to the crowd, but I got lots of compliments on the music and I was really happy to have at least some of my favorite artists played.

Well I have to say congrats and enjoy married life.

Can't say I regret it at all and it's 2 yrs this Sept..

Like yours, ours was done on a small budget and it turned out beautifully. Nice wedding, nice, fun reception at a city park gazebo area, some nice music and good food. GORGEOUS cake... wish I had some pics scanned from my wedding. We had some stylish shots I had set up in B&W that turned out great.

By the time we got to the honeymoon suite we were just so exhausted from the days events we crashed. We did wake up in time to get the midnight release of the Star Wars DVD box set though!

Really nice pictures, I like that church a lot. You and your wife make a cute couple. The shoestring budget weddings seem like the way to go, when I get married, I think I'd prefer to have it at a small church or something, with a few of my closest family/friends, but I'm Italian so there's a fat chance of that happening =P

That's cool you got that playlist in there, some nice stuff in there (The Jaxx!). Enjoy married life - I'll probably be there sooner than I think (or want) :P

Hey Buck, you're a good looking guy, dunno how you got shacked up with that slag there.

...

Just kidding! :P Both of you look damn good in those pictures, and even better together.

Let's hope you two keep looking your best together for the next 60-70 years.

Yeah, and who's responsible for that crappy masonry work?!

Seriously though, congratulations on the wedding and post life and such.

Those DVDs were released 2 years ago?? It's been that long already??

Um... yeah. The SW Trilogy DVD Box set was released on September 21, 2004.

To the original poster: Congrats man. Really nice looking wedding.

She looks very elegant, and just from the pics she gives a vibe of having good character.
Congrats.

I was very close to getting engaged very recently.. but thats another story.

Looks great, buddy. Congrats.

Oh, and post this at the OM board.

Who cares really. Ultimately, it's all about getting married, no matter how you do it, how much you want to spend, etc...
I believe he's replying to buck naked saying it was done on a shoe string budget.... while the wedding itself looked like it was quite nice.

Why is everyone congratulating him? I give you my condolonses, give it few months and you'll know why...

They all talk about bliss the first few weeks, then it's all downhill from there, here's hoping you found a good woman that will be an exception to the rule.

Wow. That's a pretty negative attitude, brother. You should come to my church and chill out playing softball with us.

congrats man! I too just got married (10 days ago) and it's been great so far. The wife is off getting a peticure giving me some time to log on to GAF and see what's going on wtih the world :)

I am reminded of my favorite marriage quote:

"A woman marries a man expecting him to change. A man marries a woman expecting her not to change. Inevitably, both are disappointed."

Heh...anyway, don't let guys like Amused_to_Death scare you. I've been married almost 2 years (together for 7+) and I couldn't be happier.

Need I say more? It's really pathetic when guys feel like they have to sneak out to do their thing, whether playing golf, games, or hanging out on a message board...

You married folks wait until you get the "you spend so much time playing games or on that god damn message board and not enough time with me, you really don't care, you really don't love me..." Just wait!

So so so true. :P (PST! It's not really that bad) Watch some married life sitcoms, they're more true to life than you ever would have imagined when you were single. All the shit that happens in them, will most likely happen to you in some form or another. Still, being married is great, but the first year is actually pretty tough for most couples. Getting adjusted to married life is not easy, the first few months, you're not really getting adjusted, you're just sort of 'visiting'. There's a reason most marriages don't last past a year, it's hard as hell to adjust and some people are too selfish to do it. If you're relationship is strong enough, you can get through it with ease just by listening and compromising. Good Luck! Being married is one of the best parts of life :D

In my case, I'd rather spend most of my time with my wife than anything else, but I see your point. I'm not worried at all, though, because I made my interests and habits and goals clearly known to my wife before marriage.

Hehe, easier than that is finding someone with similar interests.

Thank you for all the congratulations and kind words!

As for the budget, we did the whole wedding on about $9k USD, including alcohol. We had 200 people at the church and 140 people for a sit down dinner.

Remember that? Seems like yesterday... congrats!
Wow, I forgot I posted that. It was back in January, barely 5 months before the wedding.

How was the honeymoon?
After everything leading up to the wedding - it was so needed. It's winter here in Australia and it was some of the coldest weather in our part in recorded history. We had a holiday house near the beach, but we hung around inside by the fire most of the time. Basically just had a really peaceful and relaxing time.

Some are, some aren't, but you get what you pay for =)

And the girl in the green dress (assuming it's the wife's sister) looks like she's some cute thing going for her.
You're talking about her family portrait? That's her Mum...

No, the picture to the left of that.. clearly some sister or something.

My best friend got married last summer and I was the best man. They were both 21. Really terrific wedding. Makes me want to get married.

Oh! That's my little sister, that's a bad shot of her in the family photo though.

It was at a historical church an hour south of Perth, Australia. The reception was at the yacht club in the Mandurah marina.
