Just used body wash for the first time. Or, why doesn't the soap wash off?!

Is there any shower product that's good for your face? I've heard that using body wash or soap on your face is bad, but I'm too lazy to put cream or foam on my face outside the shower.

Never had a problem with bronners, and I use it on everything. Hair, face, body. All good.

I only wash my face in water as well. And shampoo for the beard, of course. After showering just a bit of moisturizing lotion in order to keep the skin fresh and moist.

I see a lot of outrage over using body wash on face, but no reasoning as to why it shouldn't be done.

So please, educate me. What chemical and physiological reasons are there? Does it not wash your face properly? Does it leave residue or something? Does it damage your skin?

Now I definitely agree you shouldn't exfoliate or scrub your face often, but yeah, I'm not understanding this 'no soap on the face' thing. Then again I use the dove men+care line and it says 'body and face' on the bottle.

I think it's less of a chemical thing and more so that the skin on your face is different to most of the body. It's more delicate and doing different stuff(?). So, it's not good to just rid that area of moisture. If you do exfoliate, moisturise that sucka

I can't go back.

When I visit someone's house and see a bar of soap in their bathroom, it makes me imagine what the stone ages must have been like.

OP your face is super oily because you're drying it out so much with soap. You should really only be using water to wash your face.

I've heard this theory before. Hmm. I have an extremely oily face as well and wondered if I was causing it by soaping it down. But then it's like a catch-22 because if I don't wash it with soap i feel nasty.

It's not a theory it's what actually happens. You're creating an imbalance on your face when you're stripping it of its natural oils so much. This causes your glands to go into overload and produce even more oil to compensate. We're supposed to have a natural thin layer of oil on our skin. It's what keeps it from drying out and flaking away.

Oh my goodness that is a ton of product. Reminds me of the opening of American Psycho when Bates is talking about his morning regiment.

At 19, American Psycho was my first exposure to yuppie lifestyles. At the time, I was impressed by Patrick Bateman's skincare regimen. I find it kind of cringeworthy now because of some of the products the character used. Using a clay mask has the same problem some people here have mentioned: you're stripping natural oils out of your skin and causing more oil to be produced. Products with fruit/herbal extracts, such as many cleansers, cause your skin to be more sensitive and can increase the irritation you experience after shaving.

Shared between my wife and I, we use one bottle of the cleanser per year, a new bottle of toner every two months, a new bottle of exfoliant every six months, a new bottle of serum every one and a half months, and a new bottle of sunscreen every two to three months.

I've been doing this for approximately one and a half years. It's reduced the frequency and severity of my acne, improved my complexion and increased my self-esteem. The toner also eliminated the skin irritation that would occur after I shave.

I use this.

You think it's good?

If I were to add one more thing, what would you recommend?

I'm pretty sure that moisturizer isn't meant for your face. Regardless of anyone's opinions of its other ingredients, it contains alcohol.

I'd recommend using this one instead and it's the same price.

If you were to add one more thing, add this.

Don't wash your face in the shower and don't use soap or body wash on your face. Use the cleanser on your face once in the morning and once at night. If you exercise, wash your face with the cleanser after you clean up. Trust me, it takes forever to go through this bottle.

Another mention here for body wash on face smh.

But I'll second any mention of Dove or Nivea products - they are exellent. Definitely steer clear of the majority of the"try-hard" branded ones, e.g. Lynx / Ax, celebrity endorsed, etc.

I think you'll find there are plenty of options for face moisturiser out there.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting you need to recommend facial moisturiser. I use one but I just forget to include the "facial" part.

I've been using bar soap all my life. Irish Spring Classic or Lever 2000. It always left me "squeaky clean". It did leave soap and white residue on my skin after the shower though, and left my skin dry, so I would use lotion afterwards.

I've seen people use body wash all my life so I decided to give it a try. Holy crap, it feels like the soap doesn't wash off! My face gets pretty oily and greasy and combined with the "lotion" feeling of body wash, I never feel like Im getting cleaned. Just spreading the grease/oil around. Yuck.

I get out of the shower and I feel like Im toweling off soap. It feels disgusting.

Does anyone recommend body wash that leaves that same "squeaky clean" feeling that Irish Spring or Lever 2000 bar soaps leave? Also, tried using one of those lathering sponges, and it doesn't give me the same lather as bar soap. It likes a thin layer of lather. Anything that gets me a great lather?

OP..... how does your skin look like?
Because if I did any of these things I'd have the shittiest skin ever. These are all huge no-no's in skincare. You don't use soap under any circumstances because it completely strips your skin of your natural oils and dries out like a mofo, it also contains alochol and you most certainly don't use it on your FACE. I almost had a heart attack reading this.

OP's water is so soft it doesn't wash off soap? Do you have air coming out of your taps or something? I don't understand.

OP, use a loofa (sp?) with body wash. Also, stick to bar soap like dove on your face. I use woodys. It's a bit more expensive but leaves my skin so soft and clean.

What is going on here? I have no idea what Op is talking about. Can the water really make that much of a difference? I never had any trouble with residual body wash regardless of the brand.

Edit: Also don't use it on your face...

Any black guys watching this thread? What do you use?

I use dove mencare, but it just dries my face out completely, leaving my nose flaky. Any other options?

I use shampoo for my hair and facial hair, body soap for the rest, if my hair is somewhat long I also use conditioner.
I never use bar soaps for two reasons. One, they make it feel like my skin is going to fall off from being so dry. 2, I'm hairy so the soap looks gross after using it. Recently switched from liquid soap to foam soap when washing my hands, it's great.

I rinse the body soap off with the shower, occasionally I use my hands to wipe it off at the same time, never a sponge. This is a matter of water pressure and personal taste.

But keep in mind that people are different. Most women have to use special intimate products to not mess up the balance down there. Normal soap could make them smell off for weeks

You want something for your face? I just use facial sponges:

I used to have problems with oily skin and acne (especially blackheads on the nose) before I started using this one of these (about a year with no issues now).

You can get them off of Amazon. ~$10 or so for something that lasts at least 3 months isn't too bad.

I try not to use body wash on my face (or anywhere on my head for that matter). I don't really use any specific brand, just what's on sale. I think it's mainly been Old Spice and Irish Spring.

Ok I'm talking about being past oily skin/acne. That's why I said "Unless you have acne..."

Totally true, but my point is: unless you're an oily-skinned teenager, you don't need to wash your face with soap or anything else.

This.

I personally (fair/tough/dry skinned and no acne) don't use shampoo, I use "cleansing conditioners" (helps keep my hair from not being dry and poofy and its still clean) and then a natural body wash like Aveeno. I don't use anything to wash my face.

Feels good.

I do "get" the OP unlike a large number of folks it seems.

This always comes up whenever I go to Spain where everyone in my family uses body gels/liquid soap. In comparison to bar soap + sponge use I end up feeling overly "slick" for lack of a better word.

I'm a black guy and I'm here to help.

For my face I use the cerave foaming cleanser which is pretty bomb.

For my body I try a lot of different products depending on the weather. If it's winter I use the eucerin oil cleanser and the summer I use black soap twice out of the week. Anytime between that try to use a gentle cleanser with no skin irritants like fragrances and most plant oils. The free and clear liquid cleanser is a good candidate.

Don't forget to lotion your skin. For the most part you want a lotion that doesn't contain any skin irritants and ones that has emollients and skin identical/repairing ingredients. I use the olay quench ultra with Shea butter lotion.

Use a loofah, OP.

Also, use face wash for your face, body wash isn't really meant for there, your skin will become incredibly dry. Also it might be unpleasant to shove a loofah in your face.

Why does GAF have so many grown-adults-asking-about-hygiene threads?

Been using body wash for decades now...

I used to use that Dove stuff posted above but it tends to dry my skin out.

I've used this for awhile now...

I use Suave for men shampoo/conditioner, shower WATER only on my face scubbed with my hands and then a loofah with the Nivea for the rest of me. The more crap you put on your face, the worse you will break out. I have used water only once a day in the shower and my face has never felt better.

I love Nivea's stuff and it's the only body wash I'll use. I use their Carbon body wash now. Seriously good stuff.

I use Dove men care, but I moisturize with Nivea right after the shower.

How much body wash do you go thru in a month? That's why I don't use it. I tried it and used it all way to fast.
