The Fantastic Four: First Steps | Official Trailer

How much of a flop it will be, guys?
It will probably do fine but I'm expecting crazy numbers. A few folks I know who were not interested are kind of swinging around to the hype machine.

I'm not going though. I waited forever a proper silver surfer movie and this just pisses me off so much.

Even if those old movies didn't destroy the brand outside of comic books. Superhero fatigue probably means this thing will bomb either way.

I don't really care about the Surfer being a girl, but why so bland?! Looks those arts that we see at GPU boxes in the early 2000

Not watching anyways

So what is their plan, do you think? Throw galactus into another dimension to save their own, or flee leaving their earth to die? Accident after trying to kill him (+/- it succeeding) are they coming to us in triumph or disgrace?

Leaks of the test screenings seem to indicate it's another M-She-U movie with women artificially put at the center of everything for ideological reasons but who knows, maybe the reshoots can tone that down enough. Even Grace Randolph admits M-She-U is an effective description for some of the stuff Marvel has put out. :messenger_winking_tongue:

This trailer played before my MI Final Reckoning packed IMAX showing, and there was zero reaction, no laughs or excitement. Seems like a flop incoming unless there is something super compelling for general audiences they haven't shown.

Let's see how that face holds up when the CGI is finished

And I know you are the CGI expert, can't wait to see your opinion 👀 👀 👀

I hope the movie is good but hearing how the test screening went, put a damper on my excitement. I'm not watching the film in theaters but I'll wait for streaming and make my own judgement on whether I like it or not

Seems like the two hot button issues are: characters, which im not at all surprised, Disney and Marvel have failed to make any character stay with audiences post Endgame (those that weren't already established).

and then the second is the CGI, which again im not all that surprised, stretchy rubber limbs is just never going to look right in live action... no matter how much time and money you spend on it, it's just always going to feel uncanny and unnatural.

It doesn't help that Pedro Pascal seems to be on a mission to burn all the goodwill he had with fans in recent weeks.

Dropping the ball with Paul Walter Hauser is a big flummix though, that man is an incredible actor, it's like Thor wasting Christian Bale.

Reports from test screen says its another girls saves the day, and it was so cringe even pro Disney channel thought it was too much.

I'll just skip it.

Looks like the director confirmed it.

Looks like the 'girl boss' ending is real and will be a disaster. No wonder why Pedro Pascal was cast as mister Fantastic. I never saw a man so submissive like Pedro Pascal.

Sigh... whats the point of making a super hero team to begin with?

I think Vanessa Kirby is a beautiful woman, but for some reason, she looks too old in all the clips and pictures I have seen.
I think she's around 38, but did they up-age her for this? Serious question.

I don't mind a girl power movie. I just want her to be feminine / attractive. Not some butch straight up dude chick.

Some people just have bad genetic luck I guess. She's 38 but if you said she's 45 I'd also believe it.

A complete miscast just like pretty much everyone else in this movie.

Putting my stake in right here: Here's my prediction for the ending:

Sue Storm, who is pregnant, is fighting with Silver Surfer, when they have a "Martha??" moment over being able to have children. Surfer flashes back to her world, remembers her child/children, and then turns on Galactus, spouting the "You only know how to destroy life -- we can CREATE life" tripe that movies like to spew.

Banking on it.

EDIT: Of course, it seems they may have RE-SHOT the ending, so ... who knows.

Considering we know they escape their universe and end up on 616, are they actually saving the day? I would assume that Galactus just destroys their universe.

Sue Storm had too much plastic surgery
I searched for this thread just so I could talk about that. I'm not a fan of the things rock design but it's not horrible. Johnny looks like a douche but that could be his facial expressions.

But the marketing for Vanessa Kirby is really weird. In still photos for marketing she looks legit plastic. Her face is completely smoothed over and looks fake. She's a good looking woman so I don't understand what the hell is going on

Yeah true, sorry. But still that's what I am saying, they are not saving anything they are escaping.

Yup, his "I can't save our world but I can save our baby" and nope out, when Johnny probably disagrees and wants to stay and fight, is my guess on where the plot ends up

The woman who plays Nurse Chapel in Star Trek Strange New Worlds, would have been perfect casting for Sue Storm, opposite anyone other than Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, who is absolutely miscast in this role.

Based on the short commercial I just saw on the TV this looks terrible. How do they keep messing this up? People are over long shots of tough women and their pets/wards looking skyward at a threat.

I thought the newest trailer looked a little silly. But I assume they just fail in this movie. Galactus wins.

I wonder if this 4th attempt is the charm.

Translation: "I'm mad the shiny space alien is a woman now."
No, and piss off with that.

I've read the Surfer comics for literally decades. He is my absolute favorite character and one of the things I was most excited for in the mcu was a surfer movie. I literally was so excited for it. This isn't it.

This is an alternate universe from the Sacred Timeline/main universe (hence the retro aesthetic). If you were a fan of Norrin, why would you want him wasted here? When the FF join the Sacred Timeline post-Secret Wars, then Norrin can show up. Otherwise, we'd be meeting an alternate Norrin for ONE movie and then moving on to another version of him after that which would be weird to say the least. Using Shalla-Bal as the Surfer here makes sense.

Like, haven't you noticed how Alicia Masters is nowhere to be seen? Because why introduce her in this film, wait until the FF join the Sacred Timeline and then have the Sacred Timeline version of her show up.

And the Earth X comics where Shalla-Bal is the Surfer in an alternate universe were pretty well liked when they came out. This film isn't pulling this concept out of their ass or even from comics that were disliked.

I genuinely hope this movie gets 10s across the board, critics, fans, box office, all of it. Just so we can watch you sit there, arms crossed, refusing to watch it because the shiny space man isn't exactly how you pictured him in 1992.

I'm aware of all of that and I don't like it still. I'd have rather they stick to one universe and not the multiverse as I find that kind of shitty but that's a whole other can of worms.

I'd say there is zero chance of them making a shift after this too. I'd love to be wrong, but I fear I'm not.

According to some test-screening spoilers:
Silver pulls some kind of doomsday device --- out of her ass? Who knows? --- that she uses to destroy Big G. Thing is, it destroys earth as well, and possibly starts the destruction of the universe (I guess these guys were fans of Supernova, back in the day?) so the 4 escape to another universe--after f'ing up their own, it seems.
Again, the ending was reportedly reshot, because test audiences HATED it.
