This is looking really bad for conservatives for the next 10-20 years.

So much hinges on this election and it appears (although nothing is certain) that Clinton is going to win it easily.

Them stonewalling nominations now is going to bite them in the ass so hard in 2017.

Man, Roberts and Alito are going to be very lonely after the election.

(Yes, Kennedy is conservative, but let's face it, he's basically a liberal now.)

Thomas's seat on the Supreme Court is unofficially viewed by Congress as the "black" seat as he replaced Thurgood Marshall, the first African American supreme court justice. I could see Hilary make history by appointing the first African American woman in that seat if she were to get elected.

Appoint Barack Obama as a Justice.

Holy Fuck can we just skip to the part of this timeline where Obama is confirmed as a Justice with other liberal confirmations following. Then please get rid of this individual right 2nd amendment and Citizens United BS first thing.

And to think that shortly before Scalia's death, people were speculating that all of the justices might hang on through the next two terms.

Now a Trump presidency would almost certainly lead to the reversal of decades of civil rights advances, and all but guarantee decades of future rulings that would transform this country into a cruel parody of itself where everything from voter rights to health care to scientific research are thoroughly screwed. Our international relations could be ruined. Not to mention the impact on individual people—all the stories that end in tragedy because of high-level decisions made by conservative judges who are ideologically driven to sow misery and dysfunction.

The Supreme Court nominations would extend Trump's reach well beyond the presidency. So much for the idea that no single president could upset the balance of the country too much. Trump is poised to drop the whole US into the core of Shit Planet. Good luck crawling your way out of that mess anytime soon, and getting rid of the lingering stink.

You know I wasn't going to vote for Hillary, but now I am. This election is too important not to go out and make sure Hillary gets every god damn vote she possibly can.

GAF has a thing for just running with something so long as they like the idea huh?

Everyone seems to be actively ignoring the fact that NO ONE ELSE IS REPORTING THIS.

It must be armageddon for conservatives this cycle.

The US will plunge into a 1000 years of darkness if the republicans fail to keep the senate in this election cycle. :)

Some republicans probably believe that this will happen if they failed to keep the senate and/or win the WH.

The latter three are weird?

Not the facts themselves but the particulars come off a bit odd. Like that fact that lots of his acquaintances knew he was an avid porn viewer maybe comes off odd. I like porn too but I'm not putting that out on front street like he did.

The other two don't seem super odd to me though.

How sad is it that you can pretty much accurately guess what the decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States will be before they've even looked at cases or rendered decisions. Makes you wonder what the point even is. I wish more justices that weren't beholden to either parties or a strict conservative/liberal stance were appointed.
Kennedy has proven to be a swing vote several times.

Please do. RBG is getting up there in she and I do not want to see a world where the right wing judges outnumber the left
We'd been living in that world for a while.

I get a kick how Republicans are trying to say Trump is horrible because he's actually a liberal. Keep holding that L, guys.

Guess we'll just have to settle for a 6-3 majority.

even if Thomas did retire, as long as Roberts is the Chief Justice the court will unlikely swing too much, even if (when really) he's outnumbered by liberals.

he really is a reliable conservative voter (even his deliberation in favor of the ACA left interpration that allowed it to be weakened over time), and he has by far the most pull in deciding which cases get seen by the supreme court, which is half the ballgame right there.

Okay, can you tell me how much of the business/financial/corporate world this covers? Do you believe a large portion of financial corruption revolves around the inability of the US government to restrict a nonprofit organization's choice of political expenditure?

Besides for CU, can you tell me more about how you feel that this USSC has been a "corporate shill"? Perhaps any other notable cases you'd like to bring attention to? I assume you must care about other issues with US corporations to label a court a corporate shill?

Wasn't Justice Thomas a lawyer for Monsanto?

Comparing the Supreme Court to our German Bundesverfassungsgericht (for human rights and constitutional law) and the Bundesgerichtshof (for civil and criminal law) is always so weird. One seems a partisan puppet show, the others a real court system.

How you stop that from happening with an extremly polarised two party system and FPTP voting and judges for life I have no idea, but it seems neccessary to get change. The highest court of a modern democracy should not vote predictably one way or another depending on a person's death.

There's not much chance of Republicans will lose the senate this year though.

I hope everyone who votes democrat this year will pay attention and actually do so when midterms come rolling around.
