Kanye West Isn’t “Traditionally American” Enough to Perform at Trump Inauguration

Wait Kanye supports Trump?

Looks like some spliced up quoting to incite rage

"We haven't asked him," he told CNN's Erin Burnett on "OutFront." "He considers himself a friend of the President-elect, but it's not the venue. The venue we have for entertainment is filled out, it's perfect, it's going to be typically and traditionally American, and Kanye is a great guy but we just haven't asked him to perform. We move on with our agenda."

Seems like we haven't asked him, and here's how "awesome" it will be. As opposed to we haven't asked him because "x".

Of all the horrible things you could sling at this administration this looks reaching for outrage.

wasn't right for the "typically and traditionally American event.
Kanye, who was born in Chicago and performs a style of music, hip-hop, that was invented in the United States on the streets of Trump's New York in the late 1970s
Bahahahahahahaha, ethere'd

Who needs dog whistles anymore?

I mean they could have just said they didn't want this kind of music and prefer other kinds of music. But they had to go about "traditional America". Jeeeez

I think what they're saying is that Ye isn't the kind of music that you associate with patriotism and pro-America fanfare that the type event has to have, and I agree.

Of course what they're really saying is "we can't have a black guy playing".
America was founded on the principal of dissent, especially towards government. Kanye embodies this principal much more than anything else that will be playing at the inauguration.

Kind of ironic. Trump won because of his dissent towards government.

Maybe you should read the thread title before you get on that high horse.

but Hip Hop IS American. why was there a need to mention that it's not "traditionally American?" you don't think Kanye is a skilled enough singer to entertain the crowd of an inauguration of a President?

*shrug*

That seems to be the issue if you ask me, people just reading the title or reading the quote broken up into bits. Seems to me when it's all together including what comes before it's confirmation Kayne wasn't asked and some "hyping up" of what it will be. The media love hyping people up into frenzies and being quite coy with the way they frame quotes.

Even CNN where it (the quote) came from ran this title

Despite 'Famous' friendship, Trump team hasn't asked Kanye to perform

A man living the american dream that has been embedded in american culture for hundreds of years isn't traditionally american enough.. yeah, ok.

Hopefully this gets kanye and every other person really to realize how bigotry works.

THEY DONT LIKE YOU.

Injustice wont always be aimed at you, but in time it will.

Tolerate discrimination against one group and it becomes easier to discriminate against any group

Hip hop is as American as it gets

Lol what? Kanye is about as mainstream as it gets in the music business. How is that not traditional? And hip hop is quintessentially part of modern America.

Not like that matters to Trump's PR team, though.

Lesson learned: If you're going to be a barbarian at the gate, you don't knock politely. You bring a battering ram.

Does anyone else find it surprising that there is decades of evidence of Trump stiffing people, conning people, and generally just screwing people over because he can and yet people still go to him expecting something different?

It's like a yelp page with all kinds of warning reviews that still gets new business somehow.

That's not nearly coded enough language.

We just jumped backwards from like 2-3 levels of abstraction to just 1.
Nah, definitely coded enough. Look how many people are jumping through hoops and trying to find ways around it here in this thread. And that's on a site like GAF. If there are that many people here on GAF not particularly bothered by it, outside of here? But none of that's surprising in any way.

At what point will someone from Trump's cabinet get tired of the pretense and just drop the N word on live TV?

I fully expect him to tweet out a statement comparing Black people to animals the next outbreak of urban unrest. He's a racist whose surrounded himself with like-minded people.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAA

HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA

OMG WOOOOOOOW

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving, grade A, dumbFuck.

APPLAUSE! Applause for ya dumb ass!

And let this be a lesson for all you other simple motherfuckas trying to take a ride up that tacky ass tower.

And this ain't just for Kanye (although as a Black man he really should have known better). The same goes for ALL YOU dummy ass liberals thinking you're doing something constructive meeting with this asshole. You ain't doing nothing but playin yourselves.

Kanye spoke with Trump for one reason: album hype

Everyone talking shit about him due to that is basically helping him sell records.
