Kanye West Isn’t “Traditionally American” Enough to Perform at Trump Inauguration

This also happens to be what Trump's base believes. They think American means white and Christian and rap and black people are un-Christian and therefore un-American. They see country singers as American and Kanye and rap as a disgrace.

Yes, lots of people are that stupid.

I hope Kanye learns from this.

Its why I always point out Trump-set is full of shit whenever they say their animus towards illegal immigrants is solely because they came over the border illegally. These same people tell Americans who've been here for centuries to "get off welfare & go back to Africa."

WOW.

Not that I think he should perform anyway, but...that response is pretty blatant.

Hip Hop music was invented in the United States and more or less wouldn't exist if the United States didn't exist.

It's hard to think of any other kind of music that's more "traditionally american" than Hip Hop. Maybe Rock N' Roll, but I would say they are tied.

While this sounds like ignorant dog whistling; doesn't the fact 2 Chainz was allegedly invited sort of negate the whole "he wasn't invited because of racism" angle? I honestly think it has more to do with Kanye being black and outspoken and loves going off the reservation.

Not to say they aren't racists, and the statement sounds racist either way.. but people keep bringing up 2 Chainz and not really connecting the dots there.

There are surely different people involved with these decisions. What this person said, is what people are taking issue with really.

And lets couch this in the context of the fact that fucking 2 Chainz was offered a shot at singing at this same inauguration.

Inviting 2Chainz doesn't have any bearing on what was said.

Certainly; which is why I said the statement sounds racist either way. I was addressing the numerous people literally saying Kanye wasn't invited due to racism.

I keep reading this as Trump's spokesperson telling the nation that Kanye West's music is un-American.

Donald Trump, who said after meeting with Kanye after the election, "Just friends, just friends. He's a good man, doing well. We've been friends for a long time."

Apparently not good enough friends to toss a gig at him.

Well you may have a point there. Ultimately that is probably not why he wasn't invited. I'm guessing Trump didn't really want him there for various reasons. Though one of those reasons probably being that the kind of people going to show up for this thing don't want him there.

It all just makes the 2 Chainz invite so strange; although is that even confirmed or just something 2 Chainz said?

The statement is loaded as hell either way; the wording of the "friends" thing, the mention of traditional american when really, black protest music is probably the oldest American music tradition there is...

Fuck these people either way; I'm just so purplexed by the 2 Chainz invite lol.

Title misleading? Seems like they said his music wasn't traditional opposed to Kanye himself. To be quite honest I wouldn't want Kanye at my inauguration with all of his antics.

It's not confirmed, no, just going by what he said himself.

I don't think that 2 Chainz invite was legit anyway. Nothing but name recognition. I bet they EXPECTED him to decline it.

"I know they only doing this because they can't get nobody else," he explained. "I had to say 'nah,' no matter how much money it was. I probably won't be going to the White House no time soon."

If he called their bluff and accepted the invite, they would probably stick him in another 2nd-stage type of venue, not actually in the same place with Trump and his core Alt-Right supporters. Or they would just "Kanye" him at the last minute, citing "Traditionally American" music conflicts.

Traditional compared to Trump? The pussy grabbing populist/ propagandist hell bent on tearing everything down? One of the most popular acts of all time is too radical for that guy?

To echo what others have said "kanye isnt as white as we need him to be" dont want fo
Make the old white gop members uncomfortable like my grandmother got when she saw black people at the local super market. Ffs i cant belive our country is regressing this
Much

Man, the way that's worded... I could understand that someone wouldn't want Kanye for an event like this, as he does go off the rails a lot, but still - the way that's worded is just - wow.

I hope Kanye takes this personally and turns on Trump. Love Kanye but his views are an embarrassment.
I doubt it. Kanye is a contrarian. I'd almost bet that on some level he sees his support of Trump as some kind of artistic thought experiment, or something.

Well they didn't say that. They said:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/16/politics/donald-trump-kanye-west-tom-barrack-inauguration/

It's a stretch to say they said that, let alone make an argument that it's meant in a racist way.

Uh, he said "it's not the venue" before hand. This means that rap music does not fit the "typically and traditionally American" description the event is going for apparently. You're ignoring the context of the statement. It's what he said.

Yikes, that is bad, but have no doubt Kanye will still defend him. Probably tweet his autograph copy of TIME trump signed. He is a joke.
