Kanye's best verse is on Never Let Me Down.

I get down for my grandfather who took my momma
Made her sit that seat where white folks ain't wanna us to eat
At the tender age of 6 she was arrested for the sit ins
With that in my blood I was born to be different
Now niggas can't make it to ballots to choose leadership
But we can make it to Jacob and to the dealership
That's why I hear new music
And I just don't be feeling it
Racism still alive they just be concealing it
But I know they don't want me in the damn club
They even made me show I.D to get inside of Sam's club
I did dirt and went to church to get my hands scrubbed
Swear I've been baptised at least 3 or 4 times
But in the land where nigga's praise
Yukons and getting paid
It gon' take a lot more than coupons to get us saved
Like it take a lot more than do-rags to get your waves
Noting sadder than that day my girl father past away
So I promised to Mr Rany I'm gonna marry your daughter
And u know I gotta thank u for they way that she was brought up
And I know that u were smiling when u see that car I bought her
And u sent tears from heaven when u seen my car get balled up
But I can't complaint what the accident did to my Left Eye
Cuz look what a accident did to Left Eye
First Aaliyah and now romeo must die
I know a got angels watching me from the other side

I thought it was really cool because he was just expressing a ton of frustrations and then it culminates with the biggest of all, and the beat slows down and everything.

I think MBDTF has him at the peak of his lyrical ability though. Namely Gorgeous/POWER/Dark Fantasy/Blame Game.

GAF, I made a facebook post about the new album and praised Yeezus but my religious friends were offended. Why won't they accept Yeezus?

I'm pretty religious and just take as a joke. I'm sure God would too. People are so uptight. I told one of my friends the album name and she was like "I don't like that it's offensive to God". It's a joke. Kanye is religious too, c'mon lol.

I fully agree with you. Very powerful. I'm also a big fan of his New God Flow verse:

Picture working so hard, and you can't cut through
That can mess up your whole life, like an uncle that touched you
What has the world come to, I'm from the 312
Where cops don't come through and dreams don't come true
Like there the god go in his Murcielago
From working McDonalds, barely paying the car note
He even got enough to get his mama a condo
Then they ran up and shot him right in front of his mom
40 killings in a weekend, 40 killings in a week
Man the summer too hot you can feel it in the street
Welcome to Sunday service if you hope to someday serve us
We got green in our eyes, just follow my Erick Sermon
Did Moses not part the water with the cane?
Did strippers not make an ark when I made it rain?
Did Yeezy not get signed by Hov and Dame?
And ran to Jacob and made the new Jesus chains?
In Jesus' name, let the choir say
"I'm on fire, ay," that's what Richard Pryor say
And we'll annihilate anybody that violate
Ask any dope boy you know, they admire 'Ye

I remember hearing that for the first time back in college and being blown away. So much truth and heart in one verse... and then the soul kicks in afterwards.

God damn someone get me some red tape.

No, I think it is just the delivery method now. This song delivered a beautiful verse about something heartfelt dealing with race. Now, Kanye gives no fucks about subtlety. Not saying that is a good or bad thing, but he is just going all out now, based on those song titles.

Again, it depends on how you define lyrical ability. Technical wordplay was better on MBDTF.

But when it came to lyrics we can all relate to personally in some way? College Dropout remains the gold standard. Verses like the above were the standard rather than the exception on College Dropout. The analogies, parallels, successes, problems and struggles on that album (and LR) were all things the common man could relate to. That's what made the album uniquely enjoyable if not even personal to the listeners, but it's what made Kanye stand out from everyone else. When everyone else was busy rapping money, clothes and cars, Kanye came out of nowhere with some shit everyone could feel.

I refer to that as "content," lyrical ability I reserve for technical aspects that encompass more than just wordplay, but flow, etc.

I think CD, LR, and MBDTF have more than sufficient amounts of both though. It's just different things they're talking about. I still relate most to Family Business off of TCD (probably my favourite Kanye song), but right after that is Blame Game.

his most relatable shit was Graduation. at least to me. always was. i can't relate to College Dropout or Late Registration, although I understand

Everytime I listen to Everything I Am, I go "how the fuck could Common pass on this beat?! wtf?!"

i still remember the first time i heard that i fell out laughing so hard i missed like the first 40 seconds of the song. common you dumb motherfucker.

I love that song.

I find myself going back to "I wonder" off Graduation alot these past few months. It's like a Stealth Fave song or something.

Can I talk my shit again?

My hat, my shoes, my coat, Louis Vuitton stitch, with Donatello Vasaci,
That's Louis Vuitton bitch
I think hennassy, I drank I'm gone on that Bacardi Lemon, I'm zoning
Class back in session so I up't it a grade
Two years the Dwayne Wayne became the Dwyane Wade
And A
Please don't start me
I'm like Gnarls Barkley meets Charles Barkley
I'm pop the barkers, I'm hood like parkers
While yuo all was in limbo I raised the bar up
I touched on everything
Married to the game rock a chain stead of a wedding ring
Yuo all braides names catch the garter
On nights when romance
Cameras flash so much
That I gotta do that yayo dance
I'm on a world tour with Common my man
After each and every show a couple dykes in the van
It's easy
The hood love to listen to jeezy and weezy and o yeah yeezy
I did it for the glory

in an aspirational way, yeah. all this shit i do, i do it for the glory.

but seriously though, Good Morning, Champion, Stronger, I Wonder, Good Life, CTMN, D&HG, Everything I Am, Homecoming, Good Night. The overall sentiment of those tracks is more relatable to me than the other stuff. it just jives better w/ the experiences i've had in my life. i don't get so caught up on the words and references as much as the feeling.

i can't really relate to a Spaceship for example. i understand, i love the song, but the message doesn't settle w/ me. only shit i feel on a personal level on Dropout is Family Business. same w/ LR. i feel Hey Mama, Roses and Bring Me Down. that's about it.

Shit is inspirational fam. Most of Graduation is. Champion, Stronger, Good Morning, The Glory and Can't Tell Me Nothing are all theme songs for life. Used to start every morning on the school bus listening to The Glory and Good Morning.

My Favorite Kanye West verse

Now was Kanye the most overlooked? Yes sir
Now is Kanye the most overbooked? Yes sir
Though the fans want the feeling of A Tribe Called Quest
But all they got left is this guy called West
That'll take Freeway, throw him on tracks with Mos Def
Call him Kwa-li or Kwe-li, I put him on songs with Jay-Z
I'm the Gap like Banana Republic and Old Navy, and oooh
It come out sweeter than old Sadie
Nice as Bun-B when I met him at the Source awards
Girl he had with him - ass coulda won the horse awards
And I was almost famous, now everybody love Kanye
I'm almost Raymond
Some say he arrogant. Can y'all blame him?
It was straight embarrassing how y'all played him
Last year shoppin my demo, I was tryin' to shine
Every motherfucker told me that I couldn't rhyme
Now I could let these dream killers kill my self-esteem
Or use my arrogance as the steam to power my dreams
I use it as my gas, so they say that I'm gassed
But without it I'd be last, so I ought to laugh
So I don't listen to the suits behind the desk no more
You niggas wear suits cause you can't dress no more
You can't say shit to Kanye West no more
I rocked 20,000 people, I was just on tour, nigga
I'm Kan, the Louis Vuitton Don
Bought my mom a purse, now she Louis Vuitton Mom
I ain't play the hand I was dealt, I changed my cards
I prayed to the skies and I changed my stars
I went to the malls and I balled too hard
"Oh my god, is that a black card?"
I turned around and replied, "Why yes
But I prefer the term African American Express"
Brains, power, and muscle, like Dame, Puffy, and Russell
Your boy back on his hustle, you know what I've been up to
Killin y'all niggas on that lyrical shit
Mayonnaise colored Benz, I push Miracle Whips

This is why I still listen to CD to this day.. a lot of lyrics I can relate to.

If my manager insults me again I will be assaulting him
After I fuck the manager up then I'm gonna shorten the register up
Let's go back, back to the Gap
Look at my check, wasn't no scratch
So if I stole, wasn't my fault
Yeah I stole, never got caught
They take me to the back and pat me
Askin' me about some khakis
But let some black people walk in
I bet you they show off their token blackie
Oh now they love Kanye, let's put him all in the front of the store!
So I'm on break next to the "No Smoking" sign with a blunt in the mall
Taking my hits, writing my hits
Writing my rhymes, playing my mind
This fucking job can't help him
So I quit, y'all welcome
Y'all don't know my struggle
Y'all can't match my hustle
You can't catch my hustle
You can't fathom my love dude
Lock yourself in a room doing 5 beats a day for 3 summers
That's a Different World like Cree Summer's
I deserve to do these numbers
"The kid that made that deserves that Maybach!"
So many records in my basement
I'm just waiting on my spaceship

Love that verse, you can feel the anger he had while recording it.

since he didn't used to write back then.

So, this has been probably the least talked about song previewed so far but it is my favorite one by a country mile.

Is this the one called "Yeezy Season"? I really love the beat and I wish this song would come out. I am really not feeling shouty Kanye from Black Skinheads and New Slaves. He ends up sounding like a characiture of himself and he already is a characiture of himself. I love the guy's work but the teeth-gritting, jowly sounds, head shaking bullshit in the second SNL song gave me a little case of the uh-oh's. I loved MBDTF too, but I started to worry after not feeling either song, like, at all.

Here's hoping Yeezy found someone who will be able to talk him into editing his album a smidge. I'd be ecstatic.

There are ton of nice Kanye Lines. This one is one of my favorites because he actually carried through it and created G.O.O.D Music a couple years later (not to mention the transition and production in the later half of Gone is good).

I'mma open up a store for aspiring MC's//
Won't sell 'em no dream, but the inspiration is free//

Damn I was just listening to Gone as I was scrolling down this thread and was gonna post that exact line lol

What does that even mean
It means that MBDTF is a decent album that I can rarely listen to because there's too much of everything on it. It's not that this is a new phenomenon for him either. Both CD and LR were good albums with a bunch of stuff I never wanted to hear after my first two or three listens to the album.

Give me a tight running time and effective production, that's all I ask. I know you're a good producer, you don't need to show off. If you have 100 minutes of music created, just release two albums instead of making one album that's a chore to listen to.

That doesn't even matter since the mastering of this album will be shit.

All the Kanye verses posted thus far are some of my favorites, I also add "Can't Tell Me Nothing" as one of his really high points. I've had that whole damn song memorized.

I had a dream I could buy my way to heaven
When I woke, I spent that on a necklace
I told God I'd be back in a second
Man it's so hard not to act reckless
To whom much is given, much is tested
Get arrested guess until he get the message
I feel the pressure, under more scrutiny
And what I do, act more stupidly
Bought more jewelry, more Louis V
My Momma couldn't get through to me
The drama, people suing me
I'm on TV talking like it's just you and me
I'm just saying how I feel man
I ain't one of the Cosby's, I ain't go to Hillman
I guess the money should've changed him
I guess I should've forgot where I came from

Let up the suicide doors
This is my life homie, you decide yours
I know that Jesus died for us
But I couldn't tell ya who decide wars
So I parallel double parked that motherfucker sideways
Old folks talking bout back in my day
But homie this is my day, class started 2 hours ago
Oh am I late? No, I already graduated
And you can live through anything if Magic made it
They say I talk with so much emphasis
Ooh they so sensitive
Don't ever fix your lips like collagen
And say something when you gon' end up apologing!
Let me know if it's a problem then, aight man, holla then

Let the champagne splash
Let that man get cash
Let that man get past
He don't even stop to get gas
If he can move through the rumors
He can drive off of fumes cause
How he move in a room full of no's?
How he stay faithful in a room full of hoes?
Must be the pharaohs, he in tune with his soul
So when he buried in a tomb full of gold
Treasure, what's your pleasure?
Life is a, UH, depending how you dress her
So if the devil wear Prada, Adam Eve wear nada
I'm in between but way more fresher
With way less effort, cause when you try hard
That's when you die hard
Your homies looking like why God
When they reminisce over you, my God
