Kanye West Splits From Jay Z's Tidal (Tidal To Sue Kanye For Breach Of Contract)

To take a really Dickish stance on this whole thing, Kanye's made his best music when his personal life has been in the most turmoil.

If the past couple years are any indication, his next album is going to be amazing. It's also garbage that the man is only able to create his best works when he's at his most unhappy.

Same could be said for a lot of artists, unfortunately.

Most artists of all types create their best when their facing something

Hell even as a high schooler who writes sometimes, my best shit came as a result of suicidal thoughts last year and other personal strife this year

It's weird

Probably true overall. I just like Ye's cadence on those first few bars. Paul Wall mercs the song though I think his drawl just rode the beat so well.

Yeah the pen game went from Cross to BIC. I might usually play TLOP before I leave the house for a night out to turn up. Typically with intentions of meeting a model with a bleached asshole.

Most let down I've ever been in a Kanye track. The beat was crazy. Prime Cudi hook. I got scared when I heard the autotune. My heart sake when I heard the first few bars.

As someone who loves TLOP, FSMH Pt. 1 is a bit meh

Pt. 1's end to Pt. 2 is great tho

I also like the fan made creation The Life of Paul, expanded on the album

Exactly. Like everything was there. He had a 3-1 lead before he even opened his mouth and he blew it. When's the last time we got good cudi. And it was wasted

Saw them live on the Watch The Throne tour, one of the best shows I've ever seen. The energy between the two of them going back and forth was incredible. I'll be really disappointed if this is a sign that I'll never get a chance to see that again.

He still on that nonsense? Funny thing is he could totally have a successful clothing line by just doing his own thing

I can understand wanting to be a Renaissance man in your art, and being prideful and wanting to succeed when people said you would fail, but talk about your expensive choices...the man should have a cushion of many multi-millions, to the point where a few million could be a stern conversation in a back room between giants.

instead he's running around like a property rich noble trying to pull his owed bills in times of trouble. The drama is Kanye, but is also unnecessary.

instead of owning white elephants, it's like he decided to get deep into white elephant racing. I don't know if he's still trying to do fashion, but it didn't...do...what he wanted, I know it.

What timeline is this where Yeezus is classic? 808, not for me but sure I get it however, calling it a classic? Like 5 Mics classic? ( Yeah I know but as reference )

Life of Pablo would be a god danmed drink coaster if it was ever pressed to disc.

I'm not saying this to rile up the fans but being as objective as a hip hop fan can be, no way.

I understand. I disagree but I understand

I agree. Kanye can't tell stories like Jay. Jay is great songwriter(which we all know). Saying 808s and MBDTorF.. or something is a classic is just plain old stanning.

The FSMH line works with the albums concept in showing how quickly Kanye turned to from a holy and good man in ULB to a lustful and depraved one in the immediate next track. The juxtaposition between the two tracks is clearly intentional imo, and I think the sample of Panda on Pt 2 is used to show him going further down the well, before he reaches his lowest point on Freestyle 4, has an epiphany in Waves, and spends the last three tracks trying to atone.

At least, that's how I've always looked at TLOP.

Edit: okay maybe this post is extreme stanning but the above post saying only stans think MBDTF is a classic is wayyyy worse

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Kanye goes with Jay/Tidal because of his loyality and ignores a much bigger Apple deal.

Jay thanks him by

a) Tidal not paying him what they own Ye
b) cockblocking Ye/Drake album
c) letting J-Cole diss Kanye, only for him to diss him a couple of months himself...

Not even mentioning the stuff like not attending Kanyes Wedding or asking about Kims well-being after she got robbed at gunpoint.

I can see why Kanye would wanna jump ship at this point. Dude has two kids now as well...so Jay stopping him from eating/getting his fair is a bad look.

I'm guessing when the full details come out Jay we'll be right legally but Ye will be right morally. There's a lot we don't know about this.

Jay factually called Kanye.
Kanye's first rant was about Jay calling rather than visiting.

a) That's definitely an issue. If he was truly not compensated he should definitely take action. Nothing personal there, just business.

b) Sadly, there are people who would have wanted to hear that. It would have been in Tidal's best interest to work out a deal with Apple.

c) I thought that was a bit tasteless personally, but Cole is his own man and I think Jay let it be. Should have come from Jay(false prophet).

As for the wedding thing. I am getting a "we don't like or approve of your wife" vibe. That seems personal.

Finally as a family man, I can understand Ye trying to make moves now. Legacy, right?

Sorry I missed this. Yeah, I believe MBDTF is not a classic. I'll fuck with All of the lights and power.... eh nah power sucks. Great song for synch royalties though.

Nope.
He has other people from his pre-rap days that he's still close friends with (like Chaka Pilgrim who's the president of Roc Nation) and other long friends in the business including people he had signed.
Kanye doesn't fit the general profile of Jay's close friends though, that's true (from the outside looking in).

Bolded for reference. Those people are not his friends but business partners.

These threads are so much fun because it exposes us as stans lol! People talking like they just left brunch with Jay or Ye'! It's too good! Watch this be a ploy and them come out with a reconciliation tour.

Jay and Ye are like PB and Jelly for me. Jay is PB and Ye is Jelly. No big pun intended. Oh mi corazon I love this stuff lol!

I can take them together but if I had to take one a PB sandwich is more appealing than just Jelly...

Then again I grew up with Jay. Streets is Watching! And don't you ever ever ever come around here no more!

All I know is that Kanye, Beyonce, Kim and Jay are the four most influential people in the world.

If they could find a way to work together they could create so much positive change in this world.

I always find it funny there's some drama or a stunt whenever Jay or Kanye release a new album.
🤔🤔🤔
Maybe I'm just cynical af tho.

literally every Kanye album is a classic, and his only album less than great is Graduation.

Lmaoooo. No.

Saying this as a huge fan. Yeezus is straight fucking garbage. TLOP unfocused. But yeah I think the College trilogy and Nightmare are timeless. Love those to death. To this day still undecided on 808s.

Of course my initial reaction is to simply laugh it off but I genuinely can't tell who's serious around here. GAF is literally the only place I've encountered (irl and online) that likes the album. Is it some sort of Thor 2-inside joke type deal? Yeezus really is an unlistenable disgrace. Straight up cacophony. I'll be generous and give Blood on the Leaves a pass, but even that song devolves into some foolishness toward the end.

maybe you should look around online more if you think NeoGAF liking a pretty universally-acclaimed album is "some sort of Thor 2-inside joke"

lol they're Kanye's three worst albums.

808s has had maybe the biggest revisionist change in opinion of any album in years. It was bad when it came back and it's still bad.

Nope. 808's was divisive at release. Half calling it classic, half calling it bad because it's "soft" or whatever. Ironically, the reception of Reasonable Doubt is the biggest revisionist change of opinion that I can recall. That or Em's Infinite album. Both almost completely overlooked and considered generic at the time of release but later being hailed as classics retroactively by their fanbase.

this is absurd, the album was unanimously praised upon release by most critical outlets and the late Lou Reed wrote a pretty detailed piece praising it.

My top three Ye albums are Dropout, 808s, and Yeezus. I think the rest are a mixed bag tbh. I guess I just prefer a stripped down sound over the elaborate productions on Ye's other albums.

I'm curious:

- those that don't like Yeezus- do you dislike the production too?
- those that do: do you care for the lyrics?

I'm torn re: Yeezus. The beats are fire but the lyrics are completely unbearable.

For those people that like Tlop and Yeezus, did you grow up listening to hip-hop as your main genre of music?

This may com off as elitist bullshit and it may be but I can't imagine growing up with hip-hop and having such high praise for the 2 albums. It might just be my age.

I also know that since I didn't grow up with rock as my main genre and folks ask me "How in the hell do I like Creed? I understand. Then people put me on to stuff they think is better yet in the same vain and I listen and we build.

Age. Or more specifically, you've built an internal bias based on the subjective criteria you've used to differentiate good and bad hip hop.

It's no different than backpack rap fans thinking mainstream is bad or vice versa. It has little to do with any real knowledge and is just based on criteria that fans built up about what's "real" and "fake" and "good" and "bad."

Yep this is true imo. Black Skinhead, Blood on the Leaves and maybe one more than I'm forgetting... I enjoyed Bound 2 so it was likely that. Everything thing else on that album was gutter trash to me
