The delusions... I'm sure Prism will sell (unless Roar ends up being a complete flop but Capitol is never going to let that happen), but ARTPOP will sell a shitton of copies too. The weird narrative that Gaga struggles to remain relevant is so strange, BTW didn't flop (it underperformed relative to Interscope/Gaga's expectations, still it sold over 6 millions copies, had an extremely successful lead single and a few other mildly successful ones), it lead to a very successful World Tour, and it's not like she fell out of the public eye during that time. She had an extremely successful perfume launch, had a Vogue cover, etc etc... Artpop will get tons of press, judging by the way the announcement was covered.

Rihanna sounds are based on trends. There was nothing different on it. Unapologetic was a bunch of R&B sounds mixed with all that trap and rap vibes and Diamonds was okay.. Probably the most different but it's hardly risk. Risk is going in a completely different direction, sort of like what Lady Gaga does and even Beyoncé... But at this point I don't know about B.. She's uhh.. Slacking big time.

Roar is just a Katy song that's very anthem like. Maybe I have a problem with those type of songs but it just wasn't good to me. It felt like Miley we can't stop. Ugh, the anthem feel to that song was disgusting to me. I can't stand it, however if it's true that her next song 'Banger' is much hype than that, I will trust it. Hopefully I'm not disappointed.

Your lady Gaga post, 100% agree. The delusions is strong if people think lady Gaga going irrelevant is going to damage her. The woman is one of the most powerful women in the world. A small hiatus is more good for her careers than bad. She didn't over exhaust people and that's what really matters. Also I have the Lady Gaga perfume and to my surprise, it smells so damn good. I had to have it lol. I hated saying this when I hated her but Lady G is getting on that Madonna level.. Crazy...

ArtPOP will be dope and I know it. It's so dope that my phone autocorrect it and I've never typed it in before... #Hype

Ugh! I would never pay a dime to see Rihanna. She barely sings her songs, is always late and does nothing to add to the show. She's boring and is nothing but a cut and print artist. She has no worth and will be worth nothing in the end. I don't mean to be so harsh but she comes out with a new album every 6 months (lmao exaggeration) and they all lack depth. They are just your regular expected pop song/album that has her (sadly) infectious vocals that you can't help but to sing along to. Live though, you can see where her true talent lies... Behind enhancements and studio edits. She's not a real artist.

I love Katy though. It took me some time to love her but after I did, man.. She's amazing. She's just becoming another Rihanna who unlike Rihanna, has the vocals to try a different angle. Electronic pop and mixy rnb saved Rihanna. Katy Perry can do anything.. I just wish she would.

I went to see Bon Jovi, P!nk, Green Day, Aerosmith, Linkin Park, Swedish House Mafia and Taylor Swift mostly. Rihanna was just there lol. Last year's lineup was pretty damn amazing. Lots of artists from different genres.

Pop has gone down hill from when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s. Thankfully I listen to rock and metal, you may hate it, but at least they sound just as good or better lol


Also why was she at Rock in Rio?! This saddens me

She has 12 #1s, 6 platinum albums, countless top 10s, and multiple new girls in the game that are directly inspired by her (both Miley's "We Can't Stop" and Selena Gomez's "Come and Get It", smashes in their own right, were songs inspired by her). There is not a single girl in the music game right now that has more accolades than she does.

Saying that Rihanna is a cookie-cutter artist, or even implying that she has no impact, is just a display in delusion. Rihanna is the most influential pop female in the game right now. And that's not a read. It's just a fact.

Also, let's be fair, Perry clearly sounds tired and worn out; all singers sound bad after long tours. I'm amazed some of them don't completely lose their voices after a few weeks on the road.

Your right, there is no female that has more than Rihanna because they aren't fighting to make just your run of the mill pop song.

She has no influence, she's just a great cut and paste artist. She pumps out hit after hit after hit with no effort because that's all they do. They don't try anything new and it's all about making the bucks.

Unlike artists like Madonna, or Lady Gaga or even Beyoncé that take control of their music, you'll will never see that from Rihanna. She is a corporate slave that will be that until she leaves the industry. It's funny because after she's gone, she will be forgettable. She's not a Michael Jackson, nor is she a Whitney or a Mariah, people that we will remember. She's Rihanna with a bunch of tween fans that will love her and that's it.

Rihanna is nothing without her management and that's pretty much a fact. She's no different than Britney Spears without being 'Britney Spears'. Both lacking talent in vocals but makes it up with catchy pop songs and great management. At least Britney could dance and her shows weren't boring.

This is pretty bad. Keep in mind, I'm not judging this against something critically acclaimed or whatever. I'm just saying as a mainstream pop track, it's really lacking. The chorus and really the overall track sounds really anemic and is lacking body. This almost sounds like a rough cut of a track that is missing instrumentals. But even if they touched up the song with more oomf, I think the bigger issue is just the chorus itself. It's just soooo bland. =/

This song is catchy as hell, but unfortunately sounds like everything I've heard before. Because of that, it'll do really well.

Gaga's "Applause" is what I'm here for. Hopefully it doesn't leak before the 19th :/

Pop acts are often no different than actors/celebrities. I know I'm stating the obvious here. But a lot of their music is written by genius writers that know how to write infectious hooks and melodies (like Max Martin or Dr. Luke). However, no one would want to buy music from these people. Pop acts basically fulfill the other end of that product, and that is the image. The person that is presenting the material (similar to how an actor brings to life the characters in a script).

Not the best analogy given that, at least actors have to do their job REALLY well. Whereas a pop act can really get away with just being a stand in (using auto tune etc.). Although on the flip side, not all pop acts are bad singers.

So true. This is why I level pop in two different categories. There mainstream pop and abstract pop and it's usually the abstract pop that I love the most. Artist like AlunaGeorge and Charlie XCX.. Jessie Ware and Haim, even Little Boots and Lykki Li.. Icona Pop(I'm surprised how big they got off of "I don't care".. I hate that song but I'm a fan of their earlier stuff like "Manners" and "Top Rated") Marina and the Diamonds, Azalea Banks.. Etc.. I can keep going lol but when you have so much better talent like..

Katy Perry stuff and all that fake autotuning is just boring. I love KP though but I'm tired of the run of the mill pop song. If you ever heard of Eliza Doolittle.. Omg, this girl is amazing. Even Alison Valentine.. Oh man she's so good.
