Alright fellow Canadians, what do you guys and gals think of this? Just heard it on CBC this morning:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/conservative-leadership-kevin-o-leary-1.3401967

Personally, I think he's an amusing guy and I enjoy his interviews on BNN (Business New Network) but as a potential Prime Minister....? I don't know that much about him other than that yet somehow a comparison to Trump immediately came to mind as it was announced on the news this morning and lo and behold it's even mentioned in the article.

Rich, delusional, zero empathy and only cares about making money. I say he's perfect for the conservative party :)

Man...it will be very interesting to see if he become a prime minister as he is basically hard core conservative you can get from him.

O'Leary is not a social conservative, he is more of a laissez-faire Free Maket conservative.

he understands French but he is unable to speak it. which could be a problem if doesn't improve it

He's like Canada's Donald Trump.

However, there is no way in Hell he would get far in Canadian politics.

A lot of his persona you see on television is purely just for entertainment purposes. Apparently he isn't as bad in real life behind the scenes.

Whenever I"ve heard him on CFRB he seems genuine, though many of his market predictions have turned out to be off the mark over time. Still, I'd be willing to hear what he has to say. I say go ahead and run and let's hear your ideas.

I've heard this as well, but if he has any inclination to get into politics he can't convey that character anymore.

I was hoping Rob Ford...

But Kevin will do.

He'd probably be good at it. He's obviously understands how money works and makes good business decisions. Not saying you could run a country entirely like a business, but a large portion of it yes. Kind of hard to judge him off what you see on tv.

I'm one of those people who really like O'Leary as a personality, and as a businessman, but I still wouldn't vote for him. I'm no socialist, but you need to have a little bit of altruism to lead a country.

He was entertaining on Dragon's Den because he has no filter between his brain and his mouth, but while that may work in the business world it doesn't really work in politics. Sure, it may get you votes, but in office everything grinds to a halt and goes up in flames. (See: Rob Ford.)

Isn't this the asshole who just tried to get Alberta's Premier to step down by offering to invest in Canadian energy companies? Literally trying to bribe a politician to step down. Yeah, great champion of democracy. He'll fit right in with the Conservative party.

I don't know, at some point in my life id like to see how a great business person in a position like that would work.
And going completely by Shark Tank i'd actually trust him over the other Sharks.

Is Mr. Wonderful our Donald Trump? I like him on Shark Tank but I don't think he's as outspoken or out there as Trump is.

Pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about him. In the interview, he says that he respects Trump; hopefully he means purely on a business level.

Luckily, he has to get elected as head of the party by his peers; doubtful he'll get very far if he takes too many pointers from Trump.

I don't know much about the guy outside of two things:

1. He has his own brand of wine.
2. He is the only person I've ever seen in my store who buys Kevin O'Leary wine.

Looool

I don't think he's actually mulling a bid (as has been pointed out he doesn't speak french) I think he's just ego stroking.

He is eccentric and has a big mouth, but don't see why people are comparing him to that racist piece of shit Trump.

Yeah, he does care about money... That is literally his job. I love when people respect some businessmen or corporations since they think they are in it for the good of the people or some shit. Everyone is in it for the money, this guy just has no filter and says it out loud.

But whatever. Justin for life.

Yup. Kevin O'Leary speaks his mind when needed, but he never goes out of his way to belittle people or make things up. His harsh words are always in the context of actual business. He's not one of those "tells it like it is" demagogues that's full of shit.

But I still wouldn't wanna see him in office.

He crossed that line with the whole Notley publicity stunt. If he wants to be taken seriously he shouldn't offer to bribe public officials for attention.

I'm inclined to assume he can be Prime Minister Wonderful running Canada, and still have bandwidth to spare for Shark Tank and Beyond the Tank.

I'm in... for fifty cents for every vote he gets while running during the election, and ten cents for every vote in subsequent elections for life.

My immediate reaction is no thanks but I wouldn't mind hearing his ideas. He's a shark and seems to only care about money, so unless he does a 180 on that...

I'd rather someone like Mark Carney come in, but that won't happen until Trudeau steps down as the liberal leader.

He would inject Canadian Politics with some energy that's for sure. But I don't think he would make it in the current political atmosphere. Maybe in a few years if the economy continues to tank.

Remember what happened last time we got a finances guy as PM?

Being good with the books doesn't mean you can be a good leader. Keep those guys in the cabinet.

If you watch CBC in Canada, you know he fantasized about doing this for years on the nightly* show he was on.

*On those nights he was actually on, and not replaced by one of the many substitute hosts he needed

This man does his research.

I always find this point brought up about certain public people like this and find it amusing.

Does it really matter how someone is behind the scenes when they act like jackasses the rest of the time?

No one is forcing him to behave a different way in public and doing it for money or for entertainment isn't a great excuse in my book.

I continue assuming his public persona is actually his true representation becuase it works the other way too. People can pretend to be nice in private, because what intelligent person shits where they eat?
