I would agree with btrboye, in that the shots are more likely digital alterations ('reshot' may include a number of digital alterations).

So the fog may be 'significatly' different, but I say the rest of the frame is SIGNIFICANTLIER the same. Besides, with GL's infatuation with digital film and effects, it's probable the fog/mist never really existed anyway, and was always a digital effect.

Thus begins a 40 page discussion on "is it reshot or realtered?".

No, because they fucking said they reshot it as in pulling out the Vader suit, putting someone into it, grabbing a camera, and RE FILMING THE FUCKING SCENE. Lucasfilm is lying! I know better! They didn't reshoot it because I said so!

There's no reason to disbelieve you, dude. But based on that one shot, you have to admit, they do look really similar, right down to wrinkles in the suit and stuff. How am I supposed to know that Lucasfilm said so? Because you read that 'someone close to Lucas' said so? Like I said, I DO believe you - you scour the Starwars sites/Force.net sites much more than I do, so can make a much more educated opinion on the matter - which I appreciate, but you can't blame people for analysing stuff like this, it's star wars + the internet + fanboys.

When did they do this reshoot?

No, because I know the person personally who had the conversation with the LFL guy (and I know who the LFL person is and he is one if the "big names"). They were flying back from C3 on the same plane so they chatted for a long time before the flight.

It was reshot earlier in the year at ILM.

Ah, I see... So apart form that brief snippet in the teaser, we may never even know how it was originally done...unless they go nuts on the DVD. Or reshots of the movie in subsequent dvds. Or changes to those in later versions. Or ...(etc).:p

Seriously, thanks for the info - I appreciate your dedication into keeping facts straight.

I'm just saying knowing how george is, doing an entire re-shoot makes no sense. He's completely eliminated people out of frames digitally before..hell he's even make people move who were not supposed to digitally. I'm gonna believe that it was re-shot, but it looks to me like it was just altered..it really doesn't matter though ..at least it looks better.

Yeah, that's what I mean...But I guess it's an important scene, not just some soldier sliding on the floor.

Whenever Lucas has to refilm something he does it for real. The only time he'll use a digital double is if the actor is not able to do the reshoot. The only reshoot in ROTS that's like that is one with Ewan that he couldn't do because he's in London doing his play, so they made a digital Obi-Wan for a 2 second insert they needed for one shot but didn't get in Sydney. With the Vader shot, they don't need Hayden in the suit for that one shot so they just slapped some ILM guy in it and redid it.

Hell, the last thing ever shot for Episode III was a long distant shot of Anakin running and they had Hayden do it for real when they did reshoots in London.

I gotta go with btrboyev on this one. It looks like it was digitally altered, especially since those 2 new clouds of smoke seem to be there to sorta mask any imperfections that might've been impossible to remove or chance.
