Kid Icarus Uprising |OT| On a Wing and a Prayer

Like the game a lot, really easy to get lost in all the options. Seems so fleshed out that the actual action parts are just half the fun.

In case it helps, one thing that works for me as far as holding the 3ds comfortably is to use the right palm to hold. If I stick the bottom right corner of the 3ds into the center of my right palm I can pretty much hold it between both palms and the fingers are free to move. I use three fingers to hold the stylus and put the pinky down below the cover, which has the added bonus of centering the camera in the ground portions.

Looking forward to the second half of the game.

Just beat the game.

Hands trembling. One of my favorite Nintendo games of all time.

INCREDIBLE. Simply. Incredible.
I just beat it today on lower difficulty and yes I totally concur with that statement. Chapter 18 is when the story really picked up and starting getting good.

This game is just so fantastic. I knew there would be quality and polish here but I didn't expect the writing, the breakneck pacing, and the music to all be so strong -- it's more than I ever expected from a Nintendo game and I love it. Already I tried to scroll with my mouse and let go, thinking it would freely spin downward like KI's land controls.

Oh my goodness, I was having such a cumbersome time playing the normal way, but after playing with a Circle Pad Pro, I think I'm in love. Sure, the buttons aren't as smooth as a stylus but it doesn't make the 3D effect a joke, nor does it feel as clunky with a stand.

I'm actually having fun with the game now!

So how many chapters does the game end up with?
There are
25
chapters, plus a boss rush mode that unlocks at the end.

Speaking of said boss rush mode, I made it up to Chapter 18's boss (
where you control Magnus to fight your possessed self
).

I'm now hooked on collecting all of the idols, which I can tell will take forever; there must easily be over 400 of them.

Been also playing 3D Classic Kid Icarus. Never played the original Kid Icarus before although I did try it on a friend's Wii from its VC. I remember not liking it because it was too old school. But the 3D classic remake is pretty nice.

I really love how Nintendo/Arika added cool backgrounds in the game. And didn't realize the game was so difficult!

It's still pretty fun. I can see how this game really was innovative in its time.

Am I the only one taking a leisurely pace here? I just beat chapter four. It's like all you fuckers play one level after the other with no breaks.

Pffft, everyone knows this game isn't truly completed until one has played every level with every weapon on each of the 99 difficulty levels using each of the different control configurations.

I'm going slow, but that's because a) I can't stare at the screen for longer than thirty minutes at a time, it's just too visually dense for me to handle, and b) I really need to finish this assignment

Is there a marked difference between multi-lingual Euro AR packaging and that of regular English?

(for eBay reasons etc of course)

And even i am moderately surprised
accidentally bought the Japanese version whilst the US version is in transit.

Just think of it this way. The Japanese voice acting and the English voice acting both have their merits and provide different but great experiences! There! Money well spent. =P

Game is glorious in the air.
Land sections remind me of Kingdom Hearts: they look good in some ways, but barren and very rudimentary. Also, frustrating.
I've tried different controls and settings but nothing is clicking. Was hoping playing without the stylus and simply looking at targets with homing weapons would work but some move around too much :(

What are some tips on making the ground sections more enjoyable?

Adjust the controls - reticle/ camera. On land I changed the reticle to 'stop quickly' and the speed to 'fast'. Also, someone mentioned earlier in this thread to assign the camera alignment to Up on the D-pad, which seems like a good idea.

Don't try to be constantly moving. One of the things I love about Sakurai's game design is that every enemy is different. One you get in a good position in an area, stay still and just worry about aiming, firing and dodging any incoming attacks. If you try to play the game like a dual-stick shooter - constantly zipping around and trying to circle strafe everything - you're going to get frustrated and destroy your hands.

Think of the ground sections more like those "stop and go" rail-shooter arcade games, except you get to control the rail, and therefore where and when you stop and go.

Man, this game has me absolutely PUMPED for Smash Bros. 3DS. They talked about wanting there to be a feeling of developing your own personal versions of characters... Can you imagine a Smash Bros with online as quick and simple as this game's with a super-enhanced version of Stickers from Brawl thrown into the mix?

The land levels are nowhere like Kingdom Hearts. Try to approach them much more methodically, even stealthily when going from room-to-room.

Any point in making the cards fight each other? Why does a Drill Arm so easily beat a Great Reaper? Does the Chest with legs ever do the Can-Can?

I got it yesterday and I've yet to go past the first stage. I just keep getting new weapons and trying it over and over again with them for that or slightly harder difficulty level. This game is going to keep me going on for a long long time. I love it.

Amazing when a franchise I have no interest in has a potential game of the year for me in it. Okay, back to claw action I go.

Apologies if this question has already been answered, but I don't see a clear answer on this anywhere. I'm left-handed, and I really want to play Kid Icarus. Will I be able to just play it, or do I need to contort myself/use the Circle Pad Pro?

Light vs Dark is so fun. This is really closing in on GOTY territory for me.

Agreed. I'm really shocked with how engaging the multiplayer is. I really was expecting it to be throw away, and before that one Nintendo Direct a few weeks ago I didn't even give a shit that there was an MP mode at all.

Now I'm hoping there's a way to add more!

Not really. It takes some getting used to but I am a leftie and I got used to the controls really quickly. Its more the fact that I have to control Pitts movements with oone had while aiming with the other that seems clunky but that has nothing to do with which hand I use.

Just bought with club nintendo points (in europe) 4 packs of 12 cards. Thats 48 cards.
Hope I get Palutena, Medusa and
Viridi, Ambar (I think her english name is different, she is the electric girl), the moon admiral, Pandora's second form and Hades, Pyrios would be also cool.
So great character and bosses, probably difficult to get in the game cards as nobody have seem to got any of those. Maybe there are not even in card form, something that would be sad.

Also the Metroid joke (breaking totally the fourth wall with the
loading screen joke
) was amazing. Is as if Sakurai was the true embodiment of all this characters :lol

You people who love the aerial sections are going to fucking love Chapter 22.

The true final villain of the game is one the best new Nintendo characters in ages. Would love to see this character in the next Smash.

I didnt like it that much, just as I started to like more the ground sections and found the flying ones more difficult (as I say too actiony while theres too much story exposure and very little health orbs).

Level 5 is amazing. It makes me want a new Star Fox so badly...
No, not that Level 5. lol

My only complaint about this game is the wonky platforming. I sometimes walk off edges because of accidentally running. I tried to go to the edge of a platform and perform a jump in Level 4, but kept falling down. The game might have the guise of a platformer in some situations, but doesn't actually have the tight controls of a platformer. (Similar to another famous Sakurai game. :p)

Stage 5 - OH MY GOD GOTYAY. Seriously, can it even get better than that?

By the way - I've been doing quite well on 5.5 difficulty. I tried to go for 6.0 on stage 5 and I really got my ass kicked :(.

This game, this fucking game. So good.

Just finished the game, 10 hours 45 minutes.

Yes, this game has some huge control issues and man my hand is on fire with pain. But I just didn't care. I've never seen such good voice acting and witty script in a Nintendo game. An amazing soundtrack that seemingly doesn't have a bad piece of music in it and incredibly intense action.

I've always had my doubts about this game, but this is the best handheld game I've ever played, no exaggerations. It's also easily the best thing I've played this year.

Well i'm enjoying the game way more than I tought I would, since it's not my usual cup of tea, but I really have a hard time with ground battles.

For air battle putting the sensitivity at maximum made it much easier to control, but I did not find a good setup for ground battle yet .. any suggestions ?

I did the sensitivity 3/4 up for both horizontal and vertical. Plus, I made the stop time as fast as possible. That's the setting that worked best for me and a friend I recommended it to.

I've still not played beyond the first 2 chapters, just having lots of fun replaying on higher difficulties and trying lots of weapons.

I really need to retract my statement about "bad" controls. The more I play KI:U, the more I realize their biggest flaw is merely being different. I'm pretty comfortable with them now.

Okay what the hell.

Just finished Chapter
11
.

I was wondering why
It seemed like I got so many of this game's achievements already. Turns out you have SEVERAL achievement walls. Did not see that coming.
