Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

This is why I don't really make internet friends since I have had this same shit happen to me before.
Conquer Online. Got all super gear and a famous very generous person that helped people level was going to help me as well but that asshole was not the same guy and took all my gear and fled.
Also what made it worse was that the gear was made with dragon balls that cost real money which was a gift.

Though after that I grew used to not trusting many people that want to "help"

And all of us are extremely happy for you learning that lesson, may you greatly value this experience, as it could have been worse.

Between this, The Order review thread and the afroman thread in OT, I feel like I'm in some alternate dimension or being trolled.

A mix of off the wall, unsensible and strictly black and white reactions.

I think the guy that did this should be banned, but I also don't really think the kid should get his stuff back. I don't know the nature of the "glitch" though. Is the "glitch" an exploit or something that is a more clearly bannable type of cheating?

There is no glitch that I'm aware of, he played with these people and was convinced that there was a glitch. They told him to activate shareplay and they would do it for him, he did, the person deleted his stuff.

There's a lot of data flying around. What did I miss?

Post 1116 and the post just a second ago that I made 1194.

Well, for one, I posted a bit of a transcript of the conversation that seems to make it pretty clear he did not initiate the cheating.

I'll assume an exploit considering you'll need only need someone else to play for a while. But I am not even sure the glitch exists and the kid certainly didn't know anything about it before information was provided by the scammer.

i can't believe we are acting like shitty people are a given and children are not. it's not the kid who "shoulda", it's the other guy.

now i really hope this guy gets banned from destiny and psn, maybe it will be less exciting to relate to him.

I doubt it would be so polarizing if the video ended before any crying. it seems that provokes an automatic parental protection reaction, which is understandable.

My point was more about his parents defending him. He was doing several things he probably shouldn't have been doing. This would be a good opportunity to teach him right from wrong, but instead they are defending him, trying to get people to feel sorry for him, and trying to get Bungle to give his characters back. In actuality, he most likely deserves to be grounded at the very least.

So if someone stole your kids bike you wouldn't try to help get it back. You would say sorry hope you learned a lesson?

The kid definitely learned his lesson today. No honor amongst cheaters. Grind that shit out yourself.

What the hell are you talking about? He did "grind that shit out himself" as you can see from the levels of his characters that got deleted. He probably spent hours upon hours getting to that point. I feel sorry for you people who want to blame an innocent 11 year old kid who didn't know any better. Almost as sickening as what the guy did to him.

did I say anything about that? nope.

I'm currently playing Destiny legit, trying to grind to 27. I never exploited any loot cave, cheesed a boss or glitched a boss. are you saying I am an idiot for playing the game as its intended?

ITT: cheating is ok in destiny because the game isn't fun to me yet I need to grind gear, oh and everyone does it (cause I know everyone)

Please point out to me where I called you an idiot, or even implied you were an idiot, for not cheating.

I said it was idiotic to have an absolutist "all cheating is equally bad!" viewpoint. Some cheats/exploits are worse than others.

Doubtful. I felt bad for the kid the second he stepped away and the guy swooped in and deleted his characters.

how does one remain innocent when giving up control of your account knowingly with the purpose of doing something dishonest? and then skip the warning message about doing it, then walk away?

I get its a kid and a dumb move, but come on...

I think you answered your own question. He's fucking 11 years old...he had no idea what he was doing and was tricked by a bully plain and simple. What 11 year old wouldn't want to see some promised cool glitch in a game that they love? Some of the fucking people here...I swear

Out of curiosity, how do you view the people who trick senior citizens by dressing up as someone from peco to do a "random energy check" and they rob them behind their backs?

Stupid dumb old people am I rite??!

A lot of people I know that have played online games in life have been duped one way or another. I have done it in the past and have had it done to me.

In the online space, this is a lesson. Doesn't change the fact the guy is a dick.

i can't tell if you are being serious. you are happy to marginalize the understanding of the kids mistake while defending this guy? exactly how do you explain your response? i guess being rude to kids just evokes a tough guy highfive response, which is totally understandable. boys will be boys.

How about old people inviting someone into their home who promises them free (against the electric companies policy) electricity for 3 months?

I'm pretty sure this kid would keep the everlasting gobstopper... So, my sympathy remains with Charlie.

However...

Uploading this to youtube was such a "mom moment". Nothing like adding global humiliation as the cherry on top of this shit sundae.

And lastly, I hope to see Kirmit froggered soon. Do it, Bungie!

You obviously don't have kids.

It was sarcasm.

How about old people inviting someone into their home who promises them free (against the electric companies policy) electricity for 3 months?

I see a news story at least once or twice a year, typically in the Spring or Summer about stuff like this. People taking advantage of old people when it comes to landscaping, yard work, maintenance, etc.

So if someone stole your kids bike you wouldn't try to help get it back. You would say sorry hope you learned a lesson?

Depends on the scenario.

If some stranger came up to him and just grabbed it and took off, yeah I'd try to help him get it back.

If he gave the bike to a stranger to let them ride it and the stranger disappeared, no I wouldn't help. He did something stupid and should learn from that mistake.

But neither of those are comparable to the situation in the OP. Kid was playing a game he shouldn't be playing, trying to cheat, and tried to get a stranger to help him cheat. The parents should teach him about responsibility.

I dont see why it has to be so one side or the other. both parties were wrong. having played MMOS since an earlier age than 11, I've seen and experienced much of what is being discussed here.

recognizing the root cause of the issue =/= defending an obvious asshole on the internet.

How about old people inviting someone into their home who promises them free (against the electric companies policy) electricity for 3 months?

yea this seems more accurate, but these analogies are just making this topic more volatile.

Some of you have never even played Destiny and are talking out of your ass. I suggest you take a look at the Destiny OT.

Nearly everyone in the OT abused some shit. It's apart of the game.

lol this nonsense again. guess this topic has run its course.

I think a more interesting debate is why people play destiny if they think its such shit that "everyone" has to cheat for items that will be invalid in a month or so.

So if you actually read the article from Game Informer that was posted by a page back, the mom uploaded the video strictly to share it with Bungie to see if she could get his characters back. She had no idea it would blow up like this

Wait.

Didn't Bungie give someone with cancer an Exotic Scout Rifle that's still not in the game yet?

Not to say they should do the same for this kid, but if they wanted to, they could do something.

it's been like half a day and we are already rewriting the story to fit our initial reactions?

And that somehow justifies it to you? The crying is changing everyone's opinion? You realize your part of the black and white logic crew I mentioned

How about old people inviting someone into their home who promises them free (against the electric companies policy) electricity for 3 months?

And they can disguise the trick as were from a sub contracted electric company and save you money on your bill. They got this old retired lady in my neighborhood with that. Luckily when I answered the door I told him no thanks and reported his plates to the authorities. Guy was a scam artist.

And here, I'll throw you a bone.

Let's say the guy did say he could save money against the electric company. You honestly would cross your arms and say, heh, stupid old person got what's coming to them.

Some posters man....

Did the kid not admit to cheating in that interview a few pages back?

Unbelievable...he didn't know anything about it. He was duped by this guy who told them about some cool glitch within the game...he's 11...of course he's going to want to see it. I would love to think you're trolling yourself and this really isn't how someone's frame of mind works

Seriously puzzled by how you're comprehending my posts, so I'll break it down:

OP posts story
Bunch of posters express "that's what he gets for cheating" "cheating is bad, never do it" etc.
I say that this "cheating" isn't anything like an actual exploit that gives you an unfair advantage
I say it's idiotic to dismiss all cheating as if it is uniformly bad (level-boosting is nothing compared to something like a wallhack/maphack)
You ask for my "personal standards for cheating" whereupon I ask you if you think that aimbotting/wallhacking is the same as level-boosting, the implication being that no, they're not the same--one is far more severe than the other
You then ask if I think you're an idiot because you don't cheat (???) when my statement FROM THE BEGINNING was that claiming something like level-boosting is as severe as all other forms of cheating is idiotic.

I have NO idea where you got the idea that I think you're an idiot because you aren't cheating, when the ENTIRE conversation that I was having was regarding different severities of cheating.

Do you see the disconnect now?

Some of you have never even played Destiny and are talking out of your ass. I suggest you take a look at the Destiny OT.

This, too. Destiny is a fun game with a load of shitty barriers or hoops to leap through. Many players create alt characters because A)the economy of Destiny was laughably fucked and having alts let you earn more currency and B)Destiny's idiotic RNG gives you legendary/exotic armor for classes that aren't even your own, and because you can't trade them, some players want to actually make use of the shit that took them hours to earn, so they create different classes.

you realize your labeling helps nothing.

yes it is.

you said the root cause is the kid and did not mention the asshole. that's a defense given how obvious it is that one of those people did something wrong to another person.

it's one thing to say the kid learned a lesson. it's another entirely to blame the kid and call it a root cause.
