Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

It really sucks the kid turned away from the screen at the worst possible moment. If he hadn't, he probably could've stopped the share play or turned off his PS4 in time before the delete bar filled up. And on that note, I can't believe deleting an entire character makes you hold the button way shorter than when you delete or buy an exotic item.

Wow, I feel horrible for that kid, what a asshole that other dude is. If this is legit I'm gonna message the little fellow and give him a psn code for something. What a shitty thing to do.

Maybe if you don't have a sense of humor. This isn't some poor homeless kid who can't find food, this is a kid who got trolled in a video game. Perspective.

You know, you're right. I have no sense of humor at all because seeing a grown ass man fuck with a little kid isn't something that I find funny. I mean, he was just doing it for the lulz, right?

You can find it funny while still thinking that 38-year-old deserves to get his legs broken. (More for the vile garbage he posts on Reddit, though.)

I like you. I can understand learning a hard lesson, we all went through it in different ways but we also all looked for support getting through it. Don't get me wrong, this is small in the grand scheme of things and even I had a chuckle but "we got your back, just don't be so naive next time dummy" should be our message.

He was chatting with the perp through his headset. It seems like he was instructed to go get something. Maybe a pencil and paper, anything to get him to step away for a moment.

That was gross. Anyone thinking that the 11 year old needed a life lesson with trusting strangers might be right. But let's not act like what that guy did was anything less than disgusting. He's clearly got sociopathic tendencies.

This is a different Era kids are growing up in. I learned this the hard way when my 10 year old got assigned a laptop at school, learned how to do a bunch of stuff on it, and came home and deleted a bunch of my emails and other stuff from my PC. I had to talk to her and explain the do's, don'ts, how's, and whys on what she learned.

Kids playing online isn't a big deal as long as the parent talks to them about it and sets/enforces boundaries with it. I feel for the kid. I don't find this funny,it's a pure dick move.

I don't understand the sensitivity level of some of the posts here. Isn't this the same general humor that makes things like The Simpsons, It's Always Sunny, and Family Guy so funny to so many people? Grown people acting immature for a laugh at the expense of someone else?

I don't know... I laughed, but not because it was a kid. I would've laughed if it was a 40 year old doing it to another 40 year old. Why is judgment of what other people find funny allowed, while other personal judgments are not?

I know I'm immature, but there is some real irony in getting cheated while trying to cheat.

You can not compare real life with tv shows.

You mean fake grown people acting immature at the expense of a fake some one else?

Yeah, I find it funny when they aren't real people. But I can make a differentiation between a fake, made up situation with fake people and some one doing sh** like that to a real live person with real emotions and feelings. You do realize that the other players/people you talk to on the internet actually are real people, right?

Your argument is not a good analogy at all.

Well based on your opinion of him, no one is surprised by your opinion of the situation and not feeling sorry for the kid
I never said I don't feel bad for him. But the more I dwell on it, it's not the worst thing in the world.

There is a great deal of difference between 'feeling' for the kid and laughing at his misery, no?
Yes I agree there is a big difference. I mainly can see the kid in five years telling this story and shrugging it off. Just how most people do when they say a save file corrupted back in the day.

Zero doubt man, I'm sure he will. I remember plenty from my youth, but that isn't the issue in this thread...least it hasn't been for some time now. It is a discussion on why some individuals seemingly find it funny to laugh at the misery of others. Sorry, I'm just not on board with that. You have an adult who preyed on someone 'beneath' his expertise/experience, did something mean; I'm supposed to find that funny? You understand that this individual/grp of individuals have done this before, right?

I'm not going to get into an argument about it. The video made me laugh and I'm taken by the amount of empathy applied to a would-be cheat getting a saved game deleted by the very person he was hoping to help him circumvent the rules of a game.

at first i was like lol

but now im like :(

poor little guy.. i bet bungie is already working to restore his characters and get his stuff back. they are pretty active on social media atleast.. ive seen them do a number of things for the community.

hopefully they are able to resurrect characters that have been deleted and ban the douche that did it.

There is a general rule in comedy/standup, and that is "punch up, not down".

A 38 year old fucking with an 11 year old is most definitely "punching down".

Yeah, no one glitches in Destiny, ever. Especially after he already had two characters over 30 that he did legitimately.

What a bastard that kid is eh? Definitely deserved it.

Love it when people like to disguise online bullying as "trolling". My ignore list can't get enough of it!

Exactly, the amount of "internet hardmen" in this thread is unreal. The justifciations for why he deserved it are impressive just for the callous mental gymnastics involved. Though even they pale beside the "he learned his lesson in an ok way/safe environment" bullshit, because of course the emotional pain that caused him to burst into tears certainly had zero effect on him right? He was trying to use a glitch (which Destiny is historically riddled with, which are taken advantage off and which no-one to date as far as Im aware has been banned) to get his third alt up to max level, he totaly deserved it, amitite?

I'm just curious, are you drive by posting or did you actually read the story about this? Oh wait, nm. You already deflected it and showed that you are posting disingenuously when you said you don't want to get into an argument, which no one is trying to do. But if you have no interest in engaging, why post?

Was the kid actually in a bit of denial/defiance near te end, where he told the guy 'I didn't want that anyway'?

Presumably that was before he realized his characters were deleted?

The empathy is because 1) he is a child, 2) there is no equivalence in the level of wrongness in boosting vs. account deletion. It's not a tit for tat. It's a kid who made a naive mistake getting his accounts nuked for trying to take a small shortcut on one of them. Also, 3), basic human empathy is a good thing to have.

That is such a pointless comment to make. Who exactly thinks this is the worst thing in the world? Who thinks this will affect the kid 5 five years from now? This post is basically somebody making a post just to say "this is a post."

If these individuals have done this before I think Sony should be doing something before bungie. Kirmit should have grief reports filed from the victims and they should be able to suspend his share play activities. Destiny doesn't allow people to share play, so why should the burden of punishing be on bungie?

Yeah I think he went in there to show the guy that deleting one gun didn't affect him. In retrospect that was even worse as everyone else already knew he'd lost two characters.

I'm assuming he started crying before his game had loaded because he read the chat and people were pointing out what had happened that he'd missed.

The person who deleted all of the kids shit was the one who told him about this glitch that doesn't even exist (in a successful attempt to get the kid to give him access to his account). The kid wasn't actively trying to find ways to break the game.

I read the initial post and watched the linked video from the 10 minute point onward. I didn't read the story that was apparently written about it, but did laugh at the video.

I've also laughed at real human beings getting hurt in all manner of ways on YouTube. If that makes me a sociopath or bad person in your eyes, I'm going to need to live with that.

It is so bizarre to see such a large group of people act as if glitching in a video game in a method that literally hurts nobody in any way is some deplorable act. Like, I'd expect this kind of a reaction as a comedy bit from Wreck it Ralph or something where glitching is some sort of act that has real consequences to video game characters.

You're now comparing accidental "fail" videos with an 11 year old getting bullied.

You're something else.

Well if you had read the story about it maybe you would have a different perspective on what occurred. Would you like a link?

I think there is a vast difference between schadenfreude in a general sense and someone intentionally trying to cause someone pain and finding pleasure in it. To each their own though.

--Edit--Honestly, you really don't see the difference between the two? Intentionally deceiving a child to troll (and knowingly cause emotional distress) is now synonymous with derp fail videos. Is that truly your perspective? Who am I kidding, you were drive by posting.

My god as someone who was big into Destiny at one point I feel horrible for this kid.

That one character had legit gear man. Likely 100+ hours lost on that one character :-(

This dude 38 years old and just deletes this kids account? What a fucking scumbag. The kid is at fault to a small degree for sharing his account but what about this dude who's almost 40? To all the people saying "oh he learned a valuable lesson" He could have told the kid how vulnerable it is to share accounts and said he could delete his characters instead of actually doing it. Fuck this guy.

Also, I was reading some of the comments and one of them said that the kid wasn't trying to glitch, the people in the party told him that you level up faster if you share play.

This is awful.

And of course there's a defense force for bullying children here. Shameful. If you're so lacking in basic empathy that you think this is OK, please just stay at home and stop polluting society with your toxic presence.

That was fucked up, the kid made a bad call no doubt but wtf- that dude went right after the 31, then skips over the 23 to the 26 to delete it. Then goes to the 23 and starts deleting shit but leaves the character there? it was like a glimpse into madness,

God's had his chance.
The real sadness here is that this kid doesn't have a mom or dad into playing games with their kid enough to help him do this instead of needing to reach out to a stranger.

Just recently got my daughter into both Destiny and LBP and there's nothing better than being the hero that gets her a new sniper rifle or the polka dot sackboy skin color for her - then watching her face light up when she starts using the new stuff.

Speaking of which ... I gotta get her Titan to 20 tonight. So much exotic gear for her she's gonna flip.

edit: and oh good god if some of ya'll think the attitudes here are bad go look at the Youtube comments (of course). Fucking. Hell.

I wish I could hat you to death
Feel bad for him, but I hope he learned two lessons.

1. Don't put your trust in strangers online/real life.

2. If you are going to cheat, learn how to do it yourself.

...wait what?

No, the real sadness is still that his characters and loot were deleted. Not having gaming parents isn't an issue.

I'm pretty sure you can't delete all the characters. Hopefully the kid had some good stuff in his vault still.
