Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

Well that was interesting. My girlfriend walked by as I was watching the stream and I told her to check out this game. She says "what game is it?" and I said "Killer Instinct" and her eyes lit up and says "Really?". Never expected her to know what the hell KI is but apparently they used to have an arcade cabinet at a theater she used to work at and she says she played it all the time. She even dressed up as Orchid one Halloween.

She says "Is that for the new Xbox?" and I said "yeah" and she's say "well, we're definitely getting that game".

Watching streams like this makes me realize just how many people there are that don't understand how different the systems in KI are compared to something like SF.

She's a keeper!

The important thing to note about GGPO is the slider that let's you adjust whether you prefer to see rollbacks or deal with input delay so GGPO let's you, the user, decide how you want to put up with lag.

Higher the number, the move frames of input delay you put between your button press and an action happening. If you set it to a low number, you see more rollbacks/teleporting.

That's what makes GGPO great and should be used in every damn fighting game. It feels great to put it on 1 or 2 and get responsive inputs in a match between NY and Germany on console. PC GGPO is even better due to more available memory and have great feeling matches with Japan/Korea.

If their netcode is using the same rollback design we should be okay yeah?

With GGPO, does rollback only click on in high latency situations or is it always going?

For example, if I'm in CA playing a friend in AZ, will it just let us play with the minor input lag and then automatically enable itself if I get matched somewhere in Australia?

What's MK using? Game is unplayable online.

Nothing outside of smaller games on console use GGPO. Off the top of my head the only fighters to use it or any form of rollback system on console are skullgirls, sf3 3rd strike, mvc origins, and darkstalkers resurrection.

From reading around that's how I understand it works. It's always monitoring, but won't actually activate until required.

GGPO.net said:
GGPO uses a peer-to-peer topology to run a complete copy of your game for each player, transmitting controller inputs over the network to keep these copies in sync. Each player's inputs are sent to their copy of the game without having to wait for their opponent's to arrive over the network.

If the simulations diverge, GGPO rolls back to the most recent accurate state, corrects the mistake, and jumps back to the current frame, all before the player can notice. This provides the illusion of lag-free gameplay.

Watched the panel and I gotta say, I'm more confident than ever after hearing the team talk about the game and how they're doing it.

And Ken Lobb is the man. Was really surprised to hear that he's a big SNK fan. He's more hands-on that I thought too, which is great.

From what I understand, 'big' games generally have not used rollback netcode as it is memory intensive. SFxT uses rollback netcode but it didn't work that greatly because of the consoles lack of ram. They had to drop sound effects when playing online and it took several patches to improve. I expect this would not be a problem next gen is the amount of ram available.

That's actually my biggest reason for wanting to see Ultra SF4 see a quick next gen port as well. Even with the possible normal improvements such a port would get (higher res/better lighting/stable framerate) it would open sf4 up to the possibility of using GGPO for the first time. I have such a better experience in sf3 3rd strike than i do in sf4 playing the exact same players. Next gen fighters are going to be awesome for online play.

Hopefully. Anything is better than variable input delay for fighters (as in the input lag can change in the middle of the match so it can be 2 frames at the start and then dip to 6 frames of input lag in the middle, and keep changing).

damn - I missed the stream. Is there an archive somewhere so I can watch it? Checked the channel and didn't see it under videos.

Thanks Max for the videos, I have been really enjoying them! Its like nostaglia over load here :0

Looking forward to the other videos on KI your going to post :)

Anyone try out at Evo the new Madcatz stick for the One?

Okay so apparently at the PAX KI music panel they showed the new character for just like half a second! Was anyone there!? The person that wrote the article said they didn't know who it was.

Here is the article about the panel:

Lots of info inside!

This is really cool:

What was really awesome though, was that Mick recorded shouts, grunts and howls made by the audience, which will feature in the music of the new Killer Instinct.

He also stated that every single KI character has a theme is available in the game, but are hidden
In order to find these hidden tracks, you have to ‘FIight against your Instincts’
…whatever that may be. Also during the panel, a video was played, showcasing the character themes, but also flashed on screen, a new character. I hope someone got footage of that because i have no idea who it was.

Surely they could at least tell if it were male or female.

I dont think this has been pointed out, but as you scroll down the menu, the little sound effects meld together to make the KI theme, much like The Ilomilo or Splosion Man menu.

This and Powerstar Golf are like the only two Xbone exclusives that I am looking forward to thus far.

Getting tired of these three character demo's. We need a two character announcement to kickstart my heart.

"it."

RIPTOR.

It seems highly unlikely that it's anyone other than Thunder, no?

I find it hilarious that the writer couldn't give us more info though. KI characters are kind of easy to describe in 4 words...

- Angry Mohawked Native American
- Green Cleopatra with Swords
- Orange Dinosaur Snake Thing
- Skeleton...just a Skeleton

C'mon! Bah...

Since we all know about Thunder you would think if it was he would have put it together.

After listening to that, and afterwards cleaning my underwear, I've realized that I fucking hate how obnoxious Shadow Counter and Counter Breaker sounds.

Those shouldn't be spoke. Just have a text box somewhere.

It doesn't bother me at all. That being said, I'm sure the announcer can be turned off.
