Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

Now that Thunder has been officially outed, is it likely that we'll get at least one FULL character reveal during Gamescom?

The gaps between E3/Evo and Evo/Gamescom are very similar so I'm a little bit worried. If we get another "tomahawk hitting a tree stump", I think I'd be genuinely upset.

Anyone else?

I'm at work - help me GAF!
any .gifs? :D

Yup, in the new thread! This Post: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=76573059&postcount=152

It might just be because it's a new build, but the fact that shadow grapple hits multiple times, without any type of combo-number showing up suggest it's entirely unbreakable, no? That's a NICE amount of guaranteed damage, especially for this game.

Same, launching with 6 characters is too low, 8 is acceptable and expected, 10 would be a nice round number.

So at the rate they're currently going they're revealing 1 a month, they need to step it up a little.

SO lets guess what Orchid will be since it is well believed that she will be the next character revealed. Also I hate the color green. Hope they change it to blue.

I said it earlier but we are on pace to get 6 characters. The only problem here is that reviews will crush this game due to lack of characters. People will think the game is bad when in actuality it is much better than that.

Yeah, I know they plan a lot of post release support, and I'm cool with DLC/Season pass and trust DH to do their best, but 6 characters at launch .... I just hope it's 8.

If it launches at $30 tho I think it'll be ok.

Just out of curiosity, how many characters did Injustice launch with??

Really really like the redesign of Thunder.

They have done a good job of his character design. Massive improvement on his old appearance.

I'd expect another character reveal at PAX, maybe? I'll be going and KI is one of my must-see games, so I'm hoping they'll show Fulgore or Orchid there. Fingers crossed!

MvC3 - 36
MK9 - 27 (28 on PS3)
SFxT - 38 (41 on PS3)
I know there are other fighting games with more content but for me 24 is enough.

If KI has less than 10 characters I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it, I hope they go the F2P route as rumored and let people pick which character they want for a reasonable price.

I foresee 400 points a character, or whatever 400 points is in local currency of course.

$5 (4.99) per character is the rate MK, KoFXIII, and Injustice use. It's the accepted standard for individual character in a fighting game. We'll see if they do like MK/Injustice and do season passes with discounts.

They can't release this with less than 8 characters. Shit, even Street Fighter 1 had more than that. 8 would be the minimum if they don't want to be crushed at reviews, budget release or not.

Street Fighter 1 had one character, Ryu, and one alternate costume for him, Ken.

Street Fighter 2 had exactly 8 characters.

The number of characters a game has is measured in ones players can use.

Don't care about character number, care about Character Quality.

Solid character with no "No one every uses that anyway" moves, with movesets that make them feel complete and worth playing, and hopefully lots of individualized bits of personality and flair, such as unique win poses and taunts, character specific dialogue bits, good endings in SP, Nice Alts out-of- box, good per-character tutorials, etc.

If it releases with a low number (6 or so) characters, offering the first 2 characters for free to all who buy it, with the season pass to include even more afterwards, would help alleviate low-launch-number concerns.

I like how they keep reiterating that they're in this KI for the long haul. I don't mind the idea of this basically growing from "KI 1 reboot" into "True KI 3" over the course of a year or 2 (or Longer), especially if it ends up costing less than $40 / $60 dollars per "iteration" along the way.

It doesn't matter how many they launch with as long as they are fairly quick at bringing out more characters

So if they launch with glacius, sabrewulf, jago, thunder and two more I won't complain

As long as we don't have to wait too long for new /returning characters

My mistake, then. 8-10 for $20 sounds about right, then, but I can't imagine it'll happen.

I think the fighting game that was released at full price with the lowest number o character was Blazblue CT which only had 12 characters. Still, they were all very unique and different from each other with a lot of details and thought put into them. Also the game was 2D which means that they have to spend a lot of time on each character if they want them all to be 720p.

I'm expecting to see Orchid at Gamescom and Fulgore at TGS. Would be nice if they slipped in a Spinal reveal at some point as well.

Rehosted it for you.

Thanks!

Hmm a bit dissapointhing for me. Was expecting a bit more change considering the other characters but I guess he'll grow on me. Would like to see more moves and combo's.

He looks almost completely different (while still being a Native American). What kind of changes were you expecting? o_0

So going by the comments of the DH boss at the end of the video ... we might get a smaller roster for launch it seems.
Or am I interpreting this wrong.

I didn't get that impression at all. They're clearly strapped for time, but we've known that since E3. I think he was just emphasizing the fact that they're doing everything they can to make the game as awesome as possible.

He grounds you after the Grapple... so does that make it ender-only? Or can he re-scrape you off the ground for more damage afterwards?

Is it combo-breakablele?

So his instinct is an insta-full invincible dash, with full cancel properties after a small startup.

DP to ground stomp looks like it'll be a good linker for him, maybe? A DP that allows one to get in, and get more damage?

I've got a full write-up that will be on Prima's site later today, but I can address my thoughts on these questions.

He grounds you after the normal grapple, which I think will setup empty jump setups and allow you to activate Instinct then go into rush down mode. However, the Shadow version of the grapple launches. We just have to see what you can get off of the launch.

In mid-combo, it may be like Jago where you can't use it as a Linker, but it still works as a proper Ender. I would assume the same would happen with his DP, which means the only Linkers we know of are his Triple Axe and Ankle Slicer.

I really want to know frame data on the ground stomp. The DP is projectile invincible, but hopefully it has good priority and the stomp is at least safe on block (please be advantage!). If the stomp isn't safe, or if both moves lack priority, Jago will still be able to bait it with a fireball into a Shadow Wind Kick.

It might just be because it's a new build, but the fact that shadow grapple hits multiple times, without any type of combo-number showing up suggest it's entirely unbreakable, no? That's a NICE amount of guaranteed damage, especially for this game.

It looks like you can't break it, but we'll have to see if it combos. Most other Shadow attacks lead into a combo. I don't think you can break Jago's Shadow DP, so this looks to be the same.

Is a small roster bad for the FGC?

It could hurt the game if it's new or coming back from a long hiatus. One of the reasons Skullgirls didn't go big was the low number of characters, which was especially a problem in a team based fighting game as there was a lack of variety.
We also need new faces for this game. I don't think it would hurt if they delay some of the previous characters.

Can't delay old characters for new characters the community will be upset. Release the most beloved characters first then start looking at new characters.

"It's August now and the game releases in November."

Holy shit I just realized that myself... can they even pump out 10+ characters by launch? I feel like they might rush characters in just for the sake of having a lot of characters at day 0.

It's also possible that they have done a lot more work than what they've shown us. At least that's what I hope.

Here's my breakdown of the reveal. I'll have a full write-up following PAX when I get to play.

I don't think we're seeing characters as they're finished as many others seem to think. I feel the dev team probably has most of the launch characters in a solid, playable state. We just haven't seen them yet.

That said, I wouldn't expect more than 10 at launch, and 6-8 is probably more likely. It's very possible we could see 1 or 2 additions before the end of the year though.
