TTP said:Tech aside, what Sony is doing this gen (as they did the previous one) is building new IPs. Last gen we got Ratchet, God of War, Jak, Singstar, SOCOM, Siren just to name a few. This gen we got Killzone (actually good one), Resistance, MotorStorm, Warhawk (not really new but you got the point), Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet. Plus the "new gen" versions of those last gen IPs (Jak excluded). So next gen they will have like dozens of exclusive IPs to work with. As for Microsoft, they have got Halo and Gears. What else?
Ah, I thought it was for Gears 2. Halo 3 is an interesting choice for that phrase, to say the least. H3 looked good, but not that good.Kagari said:1up's Halo 3 review iirc.

MS is working on getting the non-Sony PlayStation exclusives (GTA, FF, DMC, etc). They don't even have Gears locked, I'm pretty sure Epic owns the Gears IP. They have pretty much the same they had last gen... Halo
gantz85 said:MS are run by intelligent people. Sony's strategy works in the long-run, but you don't get to the long-run without doing aces in your short-runs as well. MS have deep pockets and can suffer billion dollar losses year after year with some but negligible pressure placed on their executives. Spending money to de-exclusify key titles (GTA, FF, DMC, etc) and garner exclusive content in others has done them A LOT of good.
Besides, they have strong first-party development teams; while not as remarkable as Sony are still very, very, very good.
Sony needs to have the balls to carry through CELL to the PS4 so the huge investments they made this generation, technologically and through their organizational structuring, will pay off. However, things aren't that simple with third parties whining about the CELL.. let's see how it plays out.
Kagari said:Yeah, that's one thing I appreciate about Sony, is that they're always looking to new IPs and new ideas instead of more of the same. MS just seems to care about stealing all these franchise sequels of games that were popular on PS2.

No seriously, Halo eclipses every single IP you've listed.

dreamer3kx said:so is this a 'system seller"? Im not sure.
skulpt said:No exactly. MS is selling a lot now because they don't have to pay out to keep running Bungie, Bz Creations, Ensemble and can afford a PC, which will obviously vault sales. But I think in the long run, even if we say the PS3 and 360 are exactly equal in power, Sony could have a HUGE edge in a few years just because they are all working together. I mean does anyone know how many people are in all the 1st party dev teams for Sony? Could it be almost 1000 people working together and sharing? That's a powerful resource they have going there. MS just doesn't have that man power any more. I really thought for a while they were going to buy Bioware, but that never panned out. Since then, they've dropped Bungie, BC, Ensemble. Since 05, Sony has added the Motorstorm team, Zipper, GG.
It could be though that this will make sony bleed money even more. With so much invested in first party, some of these games need to start selling a good 4-5 million to recoup what they are investing in some many dev teams.
My guess? (And it's been hinted at). With MGS getting smaller, the recession hitting, MGS will focus more on quick to make casual games and try and take more of a page out of the Wii. You'll have some games like Gears 3 coming and Alan Wake, but a good 25% of the games will start to be more like 1 vs 100, Lips, Banjo Party games, and other low cost but fun games that they can whip out fast.

MvmntInGrn said:No reason to, Gears 3 would still sell like crack on 360 and at least 2 million on PS3.
Not sure what the deal is with them.
It was my understanding that MS owns the "Gears of War" title but the same universe under a new name was still ok for EPIC to work with.
No idea if thats right.

But seriously I hope he doesn't do the preview (or review) of KZ2, he is too biased against it already and even more important he is not used to the PS3 controller :lol :lol

We have got [everything] from the knife to an electricity gun [to a] gun that fires explosive bolts than can pin enemies to walls. Personally, I like the electricity gun a lot. The effects of it firing are great, you feel really powerful.

But that's also because I think the Chimera, Chimeran architecture and the general art of Resistance to be utterly fantastic (as in: Subjectively, it clicks with my tastes).
