At the request of Sony and Guerilla Games, we have removed all the pictures and videos captured Killzone 2 last week. Preview version of the game representing a 65% development, it is not sufficiently representative of the quality of the final title to disseminate as much media as we have done.
We simply wanted to provide maximum visual for a game you wait all, but we fully understand the decision of Sony and Guerilla Games, and extend our sincerest apologies for this misunderstanding.

KernelPanic said:Killzone 2 has been a pariah ever since the CG trailer. I think most people expected the game to be either vaporware or just outright suck and come anything close to the CG trailer. Of course, Guerilla has been hitting home runs ever since the E3 07 reveal. They're doing an outstanding job and they deserve every bit of praise, they've exceed even my wildest expectations.
I have no problem with negative reviews, comments or opinions on the game but the contradictions and double standards from some journos are just mind boggling.
Can't help but wonder huh ?
Valkyr Junkie said:What the hell is going on with SCE? They send out preview code to journalists and put up an embargo after which media on the preview build can be released to the public, and then a week later they demand all of it be taken down? If these sites were doing something wrong why the hell did Sony wait so long to contact them? It's pretty damn sloppy regardless.
jett said:They don't the public to see bugs, errors and placeholder material? I can't blame them.

FirewalkR said:Well, perhaps Sony should have been more specific as to how much/what to show beforehand then.
Anyway, as far as I'm concerned all the videos did was push the hype through the roof.

Callibretto said:I think Sony never expect the journalist to going as far as having a video where they just basically stand still to show off some cool graphics or visual effect of the game while unnecessarily also show some unfinished part.
I mean, GeoW is also a very hyped game and very pretty too, but the journalist never make a video where they point out the graphics as much as KZ do they?
I think Sony expect gameplay videos to be out, videos of people playing the game, following the game's pace etc, not video of player standing around looking at pretty graphics.
EschatonDX said:Disagree. Look at all the trailers for K2... They're all collages of "wow" moments strung together with dialogue and music. This is a game that will sell itself on visual appeal more than a new gameplay premise or anything.
iamcool388 said:it would have been better if the site had just put up a disclaimer saying "Not representative of the final game"... and just noted that VO, cutscenes etc etc are placeholders.
Eric said:FYI the preview build came with a PDF giving some hints as to which parts of the game were still being worked on. I am sure this is no exhaustive list but I thought I'd share it with you (I don't think websites published it, I didn't on PlayFrance) :
Known Issues
As Killzone2 is work-in-progress and still needs to go through Quality Assurance, the
Killzone 2 Single Player Preview Code does not accurately represent the final retail copy
of Killzone 2. These elements will be remedied for the final Game. Game elements which
are still under development may have been omitted or included in an un-optimized,
placeholder state. These include the following elements:
- Game Intro cinematic, in which the backstory is further explained, is not yet
available.
- Front/end menu designs are placeholder and will be replaced.
- Loading screen content missing. This will display various elements such as
gameplay tactics as well as background on the main cast.
- Dialog / Voice acting - The voice samples for both the Buddies and Helghast are
place holder.
- Cut-scenes have not gone through final polish in visual effects, sound effect,
facial animations and syncing voices
- Several Character Animation glitches can be spotted, most noticeably during
transitions.
- In some rare cases enemies or buddies can create progression issues. Try
Restart Checkpoint from the Pause menu to continue.
- Pay attention to the buddy and objectives in cases where the Direction finder (dpad
UP) system isn't implemented correctly yet.
- Volume balancing for sound effects, music and voices has not been completed
for this version, resulting in louder than normal speech or sound effects as well
as audio cutting out. Suggested setting in the Options / Sound menu:
music=100%, speech=80%, sound effects=70%
- Brightness settings are not yet balanced for all screens - The option menu has a
brightness setting that can be adjusted to overcome overly dark areas.
- Ragdoll issues might occur when many explosions are triggered.
- The Lighting setup of the Suljeva Village mission is unfinished.
Callibretto said:I'm talking more about the gamersyde video where during the campaign, instead of following the game pace, the player took the time to stay back and see the good looking sea, or the pretty ground textures. you're supposed to be in the middle of war, you sholdn't really have time to stop and marvel at the scenery, that will just break the immersion from the theater of war GG has work so hard, and some people might think that as a game's flaw.
further more, the game is not finished, during the sightseeing, the video may show some flaw that may not be noticable if the player is playing with the game's pace.
I watch the first part of gamersyde video and after a couple minutes and the stop to sight see part imo actually make the video kinda boring.

YoungHav said:Well what's the point of showing all that crap if the game is more than two months away?
EschatonDX said:Right, but the Gamersyde videos aren't technically a marketing pitch by Sony. They're an exhibition of the game by Gamersyde and other media outlets. These videos are previews in the literal sense, and are supposed to give the gaming audience the best view they can of the actual software(including flaws). All devs and publishers know this, it goes without saying.
You're basically inventing a motive as to why Sony pulled those videos, and that's a little nonsensical imo. There are several reasons why they could have been pulled.

We did show the whole first level, who had been shown multiple times this year (E3, GC, TGS) either in private or in public. We still have an almost complete video of the level from E3. We did show a big part of the second level, who had already been shown in 2007, with very high quality videos from IGN/GT and others showing almost 10 minutes of that same location.jett said:Sites like Gamersyde and Play3 really did show way too much, including stuff like unfinished cut-scenes and placeholder voice acting, which only hurt the game.

And then when it came to actual new stuff (4 full levels), we only did show some gameplay/gunfight and zero cutscenes/spoilers (unless you consider the boss to be a spoiler). We (well, TTP did) made sure that what was really new wouldn't be spoiled by our videos. Other sure didn't.
Turns out that showing stuff that was seen before multiple times was still a big issue for Sony, something I stupidly never even gave a thought about before. And I sure hope our videos didn't have any bad consequence on anyone over at GG or Sony.

Enojado said:Blim, I hope that GG and Sony aren't too pissed and realize you meant no harm in posting those videos. While I agree they have all the right to protect their Intellectual Property, perhaps next time they should be more specific about what can and can't be shown in a preview.
This post isn't meant to bash Sony and GG for what they did. Rather, just trying to show my support and hope that everything is ok for you and Gamersyde.

I watched that sniper vid on gamersyde and decided that was enough. Game looks beyond good and I didn't want to see anything new. Loved that vid.
Now it all makes sense. TTP, Blim and the rest of the crew, thanks for the awesome vids.TTP said:I'll tell u this. As a general rule in this industry.
When PR fucks something up, they try as much as they can to blame those that they have by the balls (the media, mostly small sites with no "power") so they don't lose their jobs.
