I'll tell u this. As a general rule in this industry.

When PR fucks something up, they try as much as they can to blame those that they have by the balls (the media, mostly small sites with no "power") so they don't lose their jobs.

Well, that sounds like the corporate life I'm used to! Blame shifting. Anyway, hope you guys can get back to a good relationship with them.

When you have idiots from 1UP giving a review score for a preview build I can understand why GG wanted to pull the early build info... I just hope they get the Sony marketing machine behind this game in early 2009.

Also, I would agree the footage from the preview build was a bit much; I almost feel like I played the preview after watching all the vids...

I was thinking the same thing.

They release something that completely blows everything away and people nitpicked it.

People deserved to have this media pulled away from them.

I can't wait to see the final version.

Selective interpretation.
How the hell is my statement "selective interpretation"?
The idiot stated he would give the game an 8.0 rating in it's current state...
It's the most ridiculous thing I have heard from the gaming media regarding the game.
Why even apply a score to the preview build; just provide details regarding the experience.

Typically AAA game previews focus on the overall direction & experience of the early footage or gameplay demos. Why harp on glitches that will be addressed in the final build & apply a review score; it just does not make sense period.

If the final product sucks I will be the first to say it, but most of the current gaming media don't want to eat crow & see this game be a huge success. I'm sure everyone remembers a few years ago many stated the footage we are seeing now was not possible on the PS3…

I believe that the 1up worker bee explained his comment after the initial reaction. Want of tact and reason sure, but definitely not as conspiratorial as some are trying to portray it.

Selective interpretation.

"Released right now, it's a solid effort with some annoying glitches (some scripted sequences necessary for mission progress didn't happen due to the friendly A.I. failing to trigger said sequences) that could garner a B."

selective in that he selected something that someone said and repeated it?

He explained that he didn't like his games to be grounded in reality. That's about it. The game is going for a realism not seen in FPS before and the person who's previewing the game doesn't like reality. :lol

They bitched about enemy variation as well. COD4 is a game this one is constantly compared to. It's controls aren't as real, but the enemy variation isn't any better and the game takes place in a very realistic environment.

It might not be a conspiracy, but they're definitely nitpicking and not giving the game it's best shot at a great score.

But maybe you guys are taking it wrong, giving a B for the preview build of 6 chapters full of glitches and completely missing the narrative (and as idiotic as it is to 'rate' a preview), is a compliment. The final build will be amazing.

It still is retarded to speculate forth a score based on stuff that most likely will be ironed out for the retail release. I've personally never seen it for any other big/hyped game before.

I think most people's problems lie in the fact that if they're nitpicking a preview build of the game, they're going to be doing the same for the final.

Sadly, that makes complete sense. :(

didn't he say he thinks Fallout 3 (his GOTY) is only a B+, so if KZ2 is a B then that means he thinks its really good

I see Killzone release date is Feb 27th. Is that Europe or US or both?

GG dev on the playstation boards said the Europe release would be close to the 27th - didn't say whether that meant it was before or after that date though.

Game looks amazing. the comparison from here shows just how damn close they got to meeting the 2005 trailer. possibly exceeding it???

I'm really looking forward to paying this. The talk about the game being kinda slow and requiring cover is, if nothing else, reminding me of Gears. running and gunning in that game is suicide and your character moves slowly when shooting from the hip. you need to stop, take cover and shoot. sounds like KZ has a similar philosophy. Move to cover, take aim, get a couple guys and move to another cover.

I'm good with that.

How can he still take some steps after being shot in the head though? Shouldn't he just fall? :p

nitpick over

Yea, I believe he clarified in his blog that it was meant to be a compliment, but that doesn't make it ok to give preview code a score. He could have simply said that compared to his favorite games this year, it is already stacking up very well.

Doesn't really work that way.

Anyways, bouc nice comparisons. Wow mr. fucking convoy looks TERRIBLE. God thing they say they've already adressed that. Other than that they captured the feel far more than anybody could've expected.

I kinda hope the guy who decided to change "Time to die!" to "LETZ GOOOOOOOO!" got into a little trouble at least :p

Ok maybe not, but still change it back goddamnit! Biggest disappointment of the preview footage! :lol

I'd say the only very minor complaint I've had with the preview footage visually was the fact that water doesn't seem to be reactive. It only kicks up a white-ish texture splash when shot at. No ripples or movement from players walking through it or bullets impacting. Or atleast none that I could see.

You know a game looks incredible when my only issue with it's visuals is a lack of reactive water. The detail all over the place is ridiculously good.

That'll definitely be ironed out, it was one of the last things they added to R2 also.

Back on Mr. convoy though, it's weird how that happened to him, and literally the same thing happened to various charcters in MGS4 towards the end also. Some people said it was an upgrade, and I can see why, because it has wrinkles rather than just a smooth face, so technically it's probably better, but the other stuff is much more aesthetically pleasing and realistic.

/golfclap to critics who will claim in their review that Guerrilla havent been able to come close to that 2005 trailer in terms of graphics and quality.

Bow Guerrilla bow!

edit - fixed

I'm still very impressed that they managed to crank up the texture resolution so much.
They found a spare 1GB DDR3 attached to the PS3 motherboard. They are very skilled programmers. Most devs don't go that in depth.

didnt they (gg) state there was an issue with the shaders on Mr Fucking Convey? And that it was ironed out?

It's clear that this game will never come anywhere near the CG teaser -- at least, from a visuals stand point -- but looking at some of the gameplay videos on one of the more recent 1up's, I'm really impressed by the gun recoil and how it genuinely feels like your reloading and shooting.

I'm not so sure about that. Have the developers ever mentioned anything about adding water physics? If they do decide to add it I hope it doesn't end up like Resistance 2's slow motion jelly water. Although in Insomniac's defense the game does have areas where the water moves properly and looks great.

It's easy to see that the CG is and always will be a leg up, mainly in face detail and structure among other areas. Nobody in their right mind should ever expect current hardware to be capable of that. The actual game does however improve on a few areas and has a better design in others. Overall they got far closer than anyone could have thought possible. To say the game came nowhere near the CG is just crazy talk.

It'll be fun to see just how much they can do with the eventual PS4 hardware.
