I don't watch Lost. Pretty much the only gameshow I'd watch is Wheel of Fortune, and maybe some Jeopardy. I hear a lot of buzz for Lost but I never know when it's on. Who hosts it by the way?

Anyways, enough of that garbage...BRING ON THE DEMO!!! I've been preaching the greatness of the beta to my PS3 owning friends, now it's time for all of us to partake in this goodness.

There's no way that's true, and even if it somehow made sense, just create an EU account and download it from the EU Store tomorrow.

As far as MP, does anyone know how many human players in total have to be on the server for you to be able to get EXP and go up ranks? Is it just one other human but you, or more? I've heard that no fewer than three humans have to be playing. I think it should be more, personally. It's gonna be too easy for a couple friends to exploit the system and level up quickly.

While I don't have an answer to your question, I was thinking the same thing. I at least hope that, if it is only a small number of real people, at least you have to play with the bot A.I at the hardest difficulty setting. This would discourage people from abusing the system. Perhaps bot kills don't affect your overall stats? Ranking up to the max (where you have all of the classes unlocked) will happen pretty quick, but it would suck if people can play against bots to pad their stats.

I dunno, but they were open mouth gaping at it for a SOLID 8 seconds not moving :lol

*edit it's on youtube, it's one of the gameplay videos, it should be around 8 minutes or something.
Hehe ok :) It must be really cool for the the developers of Killzone 2 to see that people are gaping like that over their game :) I do understand them though, since i think that Killzone 2 looks really amazing! :)

Ah ok, thanks for the info! :) Do you have a direct link to the youtube video?

It should be up in ~18 hours on the Euro store.

And the Gamespot US demo unlocks, I assume, in ~22-23 hours.

It would be lame, but I think that's how it is. I'm almost certain you can set the bots on easy and still level up against them if you've got another human in the server. I don't see how that won't be incredibly easy to exploit.

Try searching with something like "Killzone 2 CES". On psp atm , so I cant really help much more than that. I know the video was shot at CES though.

Tom Chick is a hell of a lot more interesting than anyone in this thread. The fact that he doesn't like the game doesn't change that.

Also, I love how the Sony site guy gave the controls a 5/10, but the game a 9/10. What a fucking coward.

This is still my most anticipated game of the year, but what a bunch of whiny shills.

Dude. Are you talking about Sam Bishop?

A f***ing coward? That's way too harsh. The guy was man enough to come here and explain what he wrote. I respect him for that. He's certainly no coward.

Don't come off like a jackass because you don't like his final score. Do you need to be reminded of a certain 1Up review for Gears? It's not like there's no precedent for not liking a certain aspect of a game yet still thinking it is excellent overall.

Hell, I don't agree with him at all about the controls, (I had a very different experience with the beta) but I respect his opinion. I certainly wouldn't call him a f***ing coward.

guys...dunno if this was posted...

I've been able to play Killzone 2, and now that it is past February 2 I am allowed to write my thoughts. Here is what I focused on in a review where I looked at things from a "comparison" point of view. There is no doubt about it that Killzone 2 has plenty of problems with graphics...and as far as gameplay goes, it really is UNFORGIVABLE to have a game released in the Shooter genre in 2009 WITHOUT a Co-Op mode!

Here was my review:

Bottom Line: Killzone 2 is not up to 2009 standards.

People often compare this game to others in similar genres, so that is the way I will write this review.

The Playstation 3 has very weak competition, which may be why some people would consider this game one of the better games on the PS3. But even compared to newer PS3 games, Killzone 2 lags behind the competition in several key areas. For example, even though Resistance 2 is a disappointing game that sold poorly, it still included a Co-Op mode, which is something the first Resistance didn't have in 2006. There is simply NO EXCUSE for not having a Co-Op mode in 2009.

If you compare Killzone 2 to games on the Xbox 360, you will quickly realize that the competition is much more fierce on the Xbox 360.

Standards of quality are obviously much higher on the Xbox 360. Consider that for three years now, the Xbox 360 has made it so Co-Op gameplay is a GUARANTEED feature in high-profile games that receive a lot of hype.

* Gears of War included a two-player Co-Op mode so advanced that your characters actually branched off and separated from each other, and then rejoined at later points in the game. Gears of War was released in 2006. You would think that a game like Killzone 2 that was being shown at trade shows since 2005 would at least be able to match a feature that Xbox 360 games have included for three years now! ... But you would be wrong, since Killzone 2 does NOT include this feature.

* Halo 3 included a revolutionary four-player Co-Op mode, even though the game runs smoothly at 60 frames per second at all times, which is twice the framerate of Killzone 2. Halo 3 included all sorts of Map editing features that you would tend to think a game like Killzone 2 that spent FOUR YEARS in development would be able to match ... But you would be wrong, since Killzone 2 does not have a framerate as smooth as Halo 3, does not offer the Co-Op features of Halo 3, and certainly does not offer the wonderful storyline of Halo 3.

* Gears of War 2 runs at a smooth 60 frames per second, and it also includes a revolutionary new 5-player Co-Op mode known as the Horde mode. Gears of War 2 spent HALF the time in development that Killzone 2 did, yet it features better graphics and superior co-op play.

* Graphically, Killzone 2 does have plenty of problems. The game runs at only 30 frames per second. Games like Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Call of Duty 4 all run at 60 frames per second. This once again shows that Killzone 2 does not live up to the standards set by the competition in 2009. Killzone 2 would have done well against the first Gears of War, which only ran at 30 frames per second, but the standards have risen for 2009, and Killzone 2 fails to live up to the standards.

NOTE: Framerates in videogames are very important. TV programs run at 30 frames per second, while movies run at 24 frames per second. However, if a first-person shooter were to run at 24 frames per second, it would look TERRIBLY CHOPPY!!! ... Just take a look at the game known as F.E.A.R., which is another game in the first-person shooter. The PS3 version tried to run at 30 frames per second, but often dipped to rates in the low 20's, which caused the game to literally look as bad as a slow-motion movie at times.

I lost count of the number of times throughout Killzone 2 when I will be running along and the game will experience major framerate problems--some of which are actually caused by the foolish decision of the developers to make it so this game can NOT be installed to the hard drive. This is something not mentioned in some reviews, but it is definitely a BIG problem that you will easily notice and be frustrated with. PS3 reads data from game discs slowly (at only 9MB per second, compared to 16MB for Xbox 360). There are times when you will notice what appears to be one of the usual framerate mess ups, but then it actually takes one full second, and then two full seconds, and then you realize it is actually loading. Then, the game stops loading, and everyone is shooting at you!..VERY ANNOYING!!!

* Killzone 2 also has more "pop-up" than any other first-person shooter I have seen this generation. There are times when the objects popping in and out in the background remind me of Daytona USA on the Sega Saturn. This is an example of the PS3's lack of polygon power.

* Low Resolution - Take a look at the shadow textures or some of your CPU friends taking cover, and you will notice how their resolution is significantly lower than objects in the foreground. This is an example of the PS3's lack of GPU power. Another way to verify this is the fact that the characters of Killzone 2 look so much worse in outdoor environments or well-lit indoor environments. The reason for this is because the developers tried to create a game without lighting. That way, the polygon detail can be focused on the characters, rather than the backgrounds. But when lighting is in the environment, it means less polygon detail available for characters, which means lower resolution. Take a look at Killzone 2 for yourself to see how much different (i.e., worse) the game looks in areas that have lighting.

* Voice Acting - This is one of the worst videogame ever in terms of voice acting.

* Storyline - Similar to other Killzone games, the storyline is poorly written and not interesting. This is a poor use of Blu-ray technology. Where is the cinema stuff that could have potentially been included?

* Gameplay - If you liked the first Killzone you will obviously like Killzone 2. However, it's important to remember that Killzone received plenty of mixed reviews for a reason. Reliable websites and magazines rated the game poorly because of the lack of quality gameplay. The game sold relatively poorly on the hugely successful PS2, because people didn't enjoy Killzone. In my opinion, Sony should have tried to created a new franchise rather than making a sequel to a game that received poor reviews like Killzone. And releasing a sequel to to a game like Killzone without living up to gameplay standards such as Co-Op really is a shame.

Bottom Line: Killzone 2 could only hope to score is a "C" because of the simple FACT that it does NOT live up to the standards in place for Shooters in 2009. No Co-Op is UNFORGIVABLE!!!! Releasing a Shooter in 2009 without Co-Op mode is like releasing a car with only three wheels!!!

Score: C-

pretty funny

isnt the data read rate on bru ray like 54mb? or something? not 9?

and what were the framerates of the games he noted?

Play Mag UK : Killzone 2 review 93%
Our main criticism of Killzone on the PlayStation 2 was its focus on combat was too narrow and it needed to break up the action with a little more variety, but playing Killzone 2 makes us want to take that all back. The combat is now so good and, thanks to the combined efforts of the excellent physics, AI and level design, it’s varied enough in itself that we don’t want it to be interrupted at all

I love how this kid acts like he was bound by NDA for his super-serious "review." :lol :lol :lol

Oh, wait. I think I know who this might be. Does he live with his sister but is sleeping out on the balcony? :lol :lol :lol

Why are people so torn on this game?

Both Tom Chick and Robert Ashley seem to hate it with a vehement passion. Then you see other sites like 1UP hailing it as being in the league of games like Halo, CoD4, and Gears.

I can't wait to play this thing so I can figure out who I agree with.

EDIT: * I take away my picture of serious fox*

Serious fox is only meant to be used in cases of actually "really?" and not false alarms.

He hasn't played it and it's clearly just a joke. *sigh*

Alright, posters need to pay attention and not just snatch up reviews without looking to stoke the flames of...flaming.

Here is what I focused on in a review where I looked at things from a "comparison" point of view. I don’t know how much the rest of you know about the Shooter genre in 2009 (I’m an expert), but co-op modes are huge parts of it. It’s not like it was in 2001 where you can become successful by not having co-op. If you screw someone over by not having a co-op mode, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the gaming public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Killzone 2 for the PS3, nor will they purchase any of Sony’s consoles. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and cancel Killzone 2 for PS3 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Fixed.
