Its a different style of gameplay is the issue for you.

This is not a "fast" game like Unreal Tournament 3 with run and gun mechanics.

Your skills are calibrated for twitchy gameplay. You might consider practicing the killzone 2 demo a bit and build up a different "gaming muscle".
Why should I have to relearn all of the shooting mechanics I've been building up to this point just so I can play this game?

Changing sensitivity didn't help. Changing the button layout didn't help.

...is this really what the game is going to control like? If so, you can plant me firmly in the "will not buy" column.

I'm playing on a 1080P set. Does anyone know how they achieved that 1080P output when forced in the PS3 menu? Considering it doesn't default to this resolution, I'm suspicious that it's not as optimized as 720P, and may be using a lower native resolution.

Its awesome, I may play the game like this.
Well, the elite difficulty will give no crosshair and no hud.
:D

I think I'm gonna play with everything off except cross hair in the final game. Until Elite forces me to have everything off. That's gonna be fun :D

I just played through the demo. I understand people's gripes with the controls, but I found them to be fine. I love the weighty feel, which a lot of people don't, and after a few minutes I had no real issue when it came to aiming (at least no more than in any other console shooter). But again, no toggle crouch is annoying. It just is. Especially when it also applies to cover. It's pretty annoying having to constantly hold a button just to stay in cover.

Also, I expected the demo to be much shorter judging from people's comments beforehand. It's not that bad, there's some decent meat in there. It's a lot of fun, overall, but it was hard at least on the first playthrough to really judge the A.I. (plus it's locked on one of the lower difficulties). I'm about to give it another go.

i get home, check the KZ Demo download and i found:
Killzone 2 Demo 55%
Killzone 2 Demo 52%
Yeah, my mom downloaded the demo two times, :D

funny thing is tha AI is probably the best part of the game, something that most people thought it would be bad :lol . Now this is on 2nd difficulty level, where it is not aggressive, so i can imagine what happens at hardest.

overall really nice sense of war atmosphere, shooting feels great, sense of weight is awesome (try different weapons), obviously it looks great too.

Ok, after about 4 playthroughs of confusion over why I couldn't get used to scope shooting, and a couple playthroughs of a different aiming strategy, I've happily decided, for my style, the scopes should only be used for extremely long distance shooting. Very, very long distance. 100% of this demo is playable with no scope. AND no crosshair, which is how I like it. You know how when you come to the exploding bridge, there's a guy with an RPG on the building to the left, along with a few other Helghast? From the storage container you find Rico backing up against, I was easily able to no-scope (and no crosshair) 3 or 4 of them with the very first bullet, and this was without any hesitation at all. That should be a good hint of how aware I am of the center of my screen. :D

Crosshairs are for pussies... :D

Having to hold down a button for cover doesn't bother me too much since you have to switch in and out of cover so frequently. I think it would be more annoying to toggle, actually, but that's just me.

Default controls definitely work the best with single player.

With multiplayer, I think you can toggle crouch if you want.

Very impressive demo, definitely lives up the the hype. And the audio, my god the sound! I am really looking forward to playing the full game.

Even in MP you really don't need to go scope unless you're shooting medium range and beyond. I found in MP with scope you get a quicker kill.

Wow, I had no idea. So the weapons available are the original gun, the Helghast gun equivalent, the pistol, and the rocket launcher?

It's funny I just noticed, you don't even need a rocket launcher to destroy that bridge. You can shoot from a far with your original rifle, and it will still explode pretty quickly.

Actually there is another gun :D

At the end when you are in the warehouse and the helghast are coming from the ceiling, there is that small room to your left (if you are facing incoming helghast) near the front between the two doorways in another gun. I believe it is the Helghast StA14 Semi-automatic Rifle.

The ai is siiiiiiiiiick.

Anybody see them taunt you after you die?

This demo is bringing productivity at the office to a halt :lol

This man speaks the truth. Crosshairs are for the weak and feeble!
On a side note, I hate my internet plan. Been DL'ing for almost 5 hours now, and only at 55%. Anyone have a good plan that costs about 20 bucks and is faster than 384 kbs?

I love the feel of the controls. I don't get where some people are saying there is a delay, I checked extensively and there is none. You barely touch the right stick and it moves. Now given, it moves slower until the momentum picks up, but I found that I was able to get more accurate shots compared to twitch shooters like COD4 and R2 (always had problems making adjustments in those games). Everything felt perfect so I was able to cap so many Helgast biach's. I used the COD4 control scheme with zoom toggle turned off and defalt sensitivity. Graphics...no need to explain that one :D . The sound..WOW! My 6.1 surround system never sounded better. Well, I'm off to go play through the demo for the 11th time. Freaking crack..

BTW.. to people saying the demo is short, just remember when the developers stated that 1 level is around 2 gigs, and that was awhile ago. I can understand why it was short, if not then some people would complain that the download size is too big. :lol

Its a game... If you don't like it you certainly don't have to play.

Phrases like "why do I have to become good at this game to play it" sound kind of silly don't you think? I think the fact that its different should be more appealing not annoying.

I'm dying to up the difficulty. I suppose, though, that if I'm having an easy time with it, then the controls must agree with me.

Game is terrific, definitely one of the safest buys on the PS3 right now. It's very easy to get engrossed in the entire experience.

I suppose this is the closest I'll come to experiencing this kind of immersion in an FPS.

I think the download size has more to do with the fact that it comes with sooo many different languages (so audio and so on) :)

The fact that it's different means I'm not anywhere near as accurate or responsive as I'm accustomed to and it's annoying.

That's really all I can say about the controls. They are really annoying.

Surely I'm not the only one who feels this way, but I won't rain on this love parade any longer.

Yeah, you just shoot the explosives behind the guys. I just went through it again, awesome game - just wish they didn't fuck with the weight of the guns.

Mmmkay said:
Yay, looks like they lightened up the weight of the guns a dash compared to the preview build they had at the Leicester Square event.

Seems like they tweaked it bit, wish they didn't do that. Still great to play though.

The presentation is breathtaking, even though you can tell this is an early level meant to ease you in. The immersion is just unparalleled... if anything this is the least gamey game I've ever played.

It sucks that you cannot play games that require a learning curve. You should stick to a noob friendly game like COD4.

I felt the same way about Super Mario Galaxy. They should have used the exact same mechanics and skills I learned playing Mario Brothers but those bastards didn't.

this is sarcasm by the way. If you don't want to learn new things feel free to go back and play your old games.

I use the scope for everything and I generally do better. Scope shooting = more precise and combining that with the crouch button, there is little recoil.

Alternate 2 is the absolute worst setup. You cant zoom down while in cover without breaking your fingers off.
The thing is, you don't have to. Just release L2, press L1 to go to zoom down, then release and press L2 again when you're done shooting. Works great for me.

Eh, Alt 2 is almost the same thing as Standard 1 - they just swapped R3 and L1 buttons.

true, true. Either way that is a lot of information being crammed into that file size.

Weird, I always have my index and middle fingers on the trigger buttons for as long as I can remeber, even during the PS2 days. I find it extremely easy to go into cover and zoom with the L2 & L2 trigger (Alt 2 setup). I didn't know other people use the DS controller with only one finger on each side... Learn something new everyday I guess.

This. The default controls are perfect for KZ2. This ain't COD4, bitches.

Not really, with Alternate 2 the way you are playing you exit cover to shoot. With standard you peek out to shoot. Not sure if when you peek you are as exposed as when you are standing or not though. Need to find that out.

If you are more exposed when exiting cover vs. peeking you run the risk of more damage sustained.

Way to be a total asshole for no reason.

Not playing games because they have poorly implemented controls (in my opinion) is not the same as not playing a game because it requires a learning curve.

I chose not to play this game because it doesn't control like just about every other FPS game I've played and become accustomed to. I apologize that this decision has offended you, but deal with it.

a. move crosshair over target using analog stick

b. press R1 to pull the trigger

what am I missing?

Fun demo. Bit on the short side. I thought it would continue after the warehouse. I got sad. Fuckin tease.

Didn't have a single problem with the controls. The feeling of weight isn't nearly as big as I had imagined and the controls are surprisingly responsive. I wonder about some of you who have complained about this..
do you.. you know.. play video games? Probably more time spent on GAF pretending to be a gamer.

The graphics are lost on me. Maybe it's because I've been looking at screen shots for the past 2 years but I didn't really get that "wow" feeling when playing. Not to say it doesn't look awesome.

Multiplayer has me excited.. really excited. Game is going to rock online.

Its the same way that not all platformers play the same, racing games, or stealth games.

Same goes for first person shooters. You cant play Half-Life the way you would play Quake, or Halo the way you would play Unreal Tournament.

Adjust for the task at hand and you might end up liking it.
