I usually finish off teammates if i'm in need of ammo. I figured i'm doing them a favor because some idiot medic would prob revive them in the middle of a fight.
:D

Do you get negative team points and team kills for doing that?

Nope. Not sure if you're in the beta or not but he's talking about while they are laying on the ground waiting for revival/respawn. They don't drop their ammo until they respawn. You probably knew all that but just in case. Me personally, I'll wait for them to respawn or of course revive them if feasible.

Sometimes I cant help but laugh when i'm team killed.
It's not a super big problem...it's just a few jackasses that do it sometimes.

I only do that to enemies , thats not nice!

I love how violent people get when they come across you (and kill you) after you've killed them before. They just pound your body over and over with the butt of their gun.

Online grudges :lol

Funnier when they send you a friend invite later don't you think? :lol

So does this game have a rooting interest or is it just one of these post-modern, morally relative videogames where there is no good/bad, right/wrong everything is based on one side's 'perspective', let's examine the root cause of conflict types of stories? That doesn't make for a good videogame story, imo.

Well, there are aspects of right and wrong on both sides in the history - but one of the sides formed an ultra nationalistic movement that shot those who didn't agree with them and then invaded someone's planet in an unprovoked war of conquest.

You can definitely say that nobody is whiter than white - and personally I really hate stories that make one side square-jawed paragons of virtue and the other side baby eating child molesters - but can you really look at the Helghast and see 'the good guys'?

Hakha actually had a breathing apparatus around his neck but never wore it in game.

He also mentioned something in game about the Helghast on Vekta needing a special amino acid to properly sustain themselves which would also explain why they kept their masks on during the invasion.

There are also hints that the Helghast in the higher ranks(Lente, Metrac & Visari) might have undergone some sort of gene theropy in order to make themselves appear as the next step of their races evolution. I guess to appear superior to their own people and remain dictators.

There are a bunch of different motivators to mask wearing:

1. It makes the Helghast soldiers uniform and it dehumanizes them. Helghast are shock troops and when they get sent in to mixed military/civilian targets they aren't very careful about collateral damage. Knowing that they all look faceless and anonymous makes it easier for them to obey orders. Suppressing their individuality also makes it easier for their officers to keep order.

2. Mask wearing has social connotations. In earlier Helghan history it was a sign of low social caste and bore a stigma. One of the things that Visari did was make mask wearing a sign of pride - although he's so far gone into megalomania (dragging his officers with him) that this aspect has now been lost and maskwearing is something that the lower ranks do and officers avoid again.

3. Many of the Helghast soldiers are recent conscripts - and have varying degrees of lung burn. The higher social classes use gene therapy and avoid outside work, removing the need for mask wearing, but a lot of the lower class Helghan still have long term exposure to the Helghan atmosphere.

4. They have to be ready to patrol outside. Masks are part of standard issue equipment.

5. Integrating the mask with the helmet means that it's not one more logistical issue item. Every Hig who has a helmet, has his mask. It also means that the mask and helmet form a single, structurally integrated unit - good for resisting impact.

I've been watching the videos on the multiplayer...and I can't wait to play this game. It sounds like everything I've ever wanted from a shooter: realistic shooting, using tactical moves, and the graphics look pristine. I found KZ1 fun, but I think I'm going to be addicted to this game...

Yeah I'm in the beta, and the only times I shot them is when they get in my way (which happens quite often) and I get negative points, that's why I asked if you got negative points in that situation.....even though I prefer team killing on because it's more realistic, I wonder how many jackasses will be team killing just to get weapons in the final game, hopefully there will be some servers with team killing off.

Wow guys, some epic battles going on tonight! My only complaint is the damn freezes when I have 40 someodd points. I would be a General by now if not for those!

Also, my rank is in Purple. Does anyone know what that means?

About #3, does that mean this guy:

2s004g1.jpg

is still relatively low in the ranks or just that he started off as a grunt, worked his way up and wants the others to know it.

The reason is probably so that he looks as badass as possible.

Just played the beta for the first time today and i'm pleased.

The graphics are not very striking at first but once you see the effects like the blood, the animations, the motion blur, depth of field and overall mayhem it all comes around to create a sick visual package.

I really like the feel of the weapons and the sound is also awesome, i love the scope on the standard rifle and the reload animations, i also like how the characters feel like they are actually moving on 2 feet and not on rails or skating all over the place.

Overall i think this could be THE shooter once it's released next year.

Only thing i hated was the death delay and getting killed by dead people :lol

I doubt the reasons dealt in absolutes.

Yea, I know but it flys in the face of "he's so far gone into megalomania (dragging his officers with him)". If Visari is so big on his officers not wearing masks this characters' refusal makes Visari look weak.

RoboPlato said:

:lol Yeah. And just imagine when he finally does take off his mask. You just KNOW there will be a shocking reveal ala Darth Vader in Killzone 2. Probably at a point where the main hero is about to die, but ends getting bailed out by Mr. Convoy.

Moral: masks look nefarious and usually hide even nefarious-er things.

Are you guys even playing any more? I don't think I've seen anyone from GAF since FFObsessed in that On the Spot game... Is there an NGAF clan?

Yeah, that happens to me a lot as well...but could that be lag + player-side hit detection?

Aaaaah.... Talking about this guy would seriously ream my NDA, sorry. I'm seriously compromised as to the things I can talk about in detail - until they're in the Public Arena. Suffice it to say that there's a reason.

I've only been able to talk about the social implications of mask wearing in Helghan society because the Early Helghan section was published on Friday.

Aww you mean like double deaths, I don't think that's a bad thing, as you're both shooting at the same time lol, compared to CoD 4 martydom and the other one where you're laying on the ground shooting your pistol, now that's being killed by a dead person haha

They kill you because they're holding the assault rifle so they can fire off a few more shots as they fall to the ground. The same thing often happen in movies. And if you watch some single player movies of KZ2 you'll see Helghasts doing the same thing. The best thing you can do is not stand directly in front of people and then you don't have to worry about them gunning you down like that.

Is the voice of the helgan announcer guy (in the beta) John Hurt? Wasn't Brian Cox in the first one?
Brian Cox is voicing Viscari which does the propaganda part (both in KZ2 and KZ1).
Not sure about the commander (the person giving you your orders).

Is the "scattaaaa grenade" gone from SP?

I'm pretty convinced that in a double kill situation when I have pumped a TON of bullets into the other guy that it's just the kill indicator that gets delayed and not someone getting in extra shots.

One guy team killed me twice in a row in one game when no one else was around. After the game he sent me a PSN message saying "sorry, I just needed to try the sniper rifle, how do you get it?!?!?!" I couldn't help but laugh.

It's also funny that when I die, theres always some noob inspecting my corpse checking out the scout character model.
Fuck, I just got killed in a game tonight because some asshole on my team wanted my sniper rifle. Bastard. I sought him out and shot his ass once I found him holding the rifle. Was someone in a clan with [dm] or something like that.

Watching the KZ1 story videos on youtube, and as like many other first party Sony games Music and story are beyond great!! :D

was the gameplay that bad? I'm seriously considering buying the game......

Another thing, how do you unlock the different stuff? I'm a Sargent, but I've still got the default weapons (which is kind of lame). None of the badges tell you what you need to do to unlock them.

Go to the beta site, log in, then go to your My Killzone site.

Click on the link in the medal section called "Show All" and it'll show your medals and ribbons. Hover over the medals and the popup text will tell you what you need to do to earn the medal. These are also available in game I think in the Statistics section.

To unlock classes you just need to gain experience points.

If you check your Statistics and then Unlocks, it tells you exactly what you need to do to unlock stuff.

It's not as bad as GAF makes it out to be, I actually enjoyed it, I bought it new at Sears for 10 bucks last year

we play a lot, there's a NGAF clan, in fact we play so much most of the gaffers rank highly on the beta and have nice badges

Hmm, interesting. If I were to take a guess I'd say he's so maverick he doesn't care about getting into Visari's inner circle. He is the conscripts officer. Someone like Maximus from Gladiator--a general who the grunts would follow over a corrupt higher up (including Visari).

Am I the only one who is blown away by the beta's tiny filesize? I won't be specific incase that somehow breaks NDA, but DAMN! If they take advantage of 50gb BDs, there's going to be so much content and detail in the full release.

Yeah and they can't even add online/offline co-op or splitscreen :/

I just played it whole weekend, let me say I did enjoyed some particular example of course the story mode is enjoyment because you know Killzone 2 is coming which made it difference.
Most important all - gameplay - Well it has quite lot of flaws, example the aiming can be annoy because the control is hard to manage. Sniper aim need steady hand which it is same control as Goldeneye aiming. Like when you shooting, the cross aim will move from the force but it little too much.
AI has sometime buggy, because some helghans don't shoot at all but not that frequency.
Still, I'm happy to played this game after know what's going on this universe and why it isn't big yet. If gameplay easy to bother you, stick with youtube. If old game (Low-tech or buggy) don't bother at all, you could try it out how much it change when KZ2 out.
