Indeed. It's really obvious that they have spent soooooooooo much time working on and polishing and tweaking and balancing and adding detail to all these levels.

Which brings up an interesting conundrum: Their work has obviously paid off, but it's taken a ridiculous amount of time and money to get to this point. So if you're a publisher, do you take the risk of investing this much time and money into a product, having it turn out quadruple-A, and hoping the public catches onto it like they did with something like CoD4? Or do you stick to a rigid and ultimately restrictive time table, compromise the overall quality of the game, but stand to make your money back easier?

I know what we as gamers would like to see but I'm interested to see what happens with this game at retail just because I want to see it set a precedent

Yeah, I think they're given SO MUCH TIME to tune the MP as things stand right now with a feb release that I doubt they're going to have to compromise too much, otherwise we would be seeing Killzone 2 this christmas, all three maps reminded me of the best of manchester in R1, except much, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better. The thing with COD4 was that a lot of the cheap shit flaws were overlooked because of the media hype as well as the carrot that is the perks system, the difference with at least what they have shown of Killzone 2 in terms of MP is that there are so few flaws even at this stage. They have three SUPER FUCKING STRONG MAPS already, it's not even fair at this point.

Yeah - these people generally hold the shoot button which is bad. You need to just click it really quickly.

Anyone know what the Fist means on the score screen? I had it next to my name, it was red and had 1 in it.

i thought that meant how many votes to kick you have on you.

I certainly hope they are already well into the design phase of the next Killzone on the PS3.
With 4-player on/offline co-op, a Horde mode, a zombie Helghast mode, video recording, vehicles in multiplayer, and a shark to jump over

Actually some of that would be awesome :P

It shows up when you press square. I saw it when trying to mute someone. Maybe it is a kick vote?

I wonder if they would ever do a campaign from the Helgan POV.

It would be pretty awesome if in Killzone 3 they do a complete role reversal and the Helghast become the protagonist and the ISA are the enemies. And Killzone 4 concludes with the re-occupation and destruction of the ISA home planet as a nice nullification of the original Killzone

Hey just had a fun 32 player match. Kittonwy was on my Team playing as a Helgan. Too bad we lost, but I racked up some points. I'm Master Seargant now.:lol

The Killzone background story is quite amazing... A campaign about the ISA invasion of Vekta in the Helghan resistance perspective would be really cool.

Never really said he was good. Its just a lot better footage than what they put up before. Still I haven't seen any video where they use sights a lot. Plus people in here have said its not really like CoD4 where its almost necessary every time.

\/\/ I did notice that.

9/10 times it is necessary. The only time it isn't is you run up on a guy from behind. Apart from that, use sights all the time.

New GT video up. Its titled "Mad Skills" I think it is a response to the comments they received on the last videos. Definitely some quality footage this time. I prefer the more uncut stuff but this is at least some good looks at the action.

Crazy lighting at 1:12. damn game doesn't cease to impress.

Another GT video uploaded recently.

Shit, this game has intense firefights. I love the muzzle flash of the guns lighting up a room and all the crazy blood splatter on the screen.

yeah I was wondering this. I feel like I would use it a lot more than I have seen in most videos.

Or a dual campaign, running parallel to each other. Narratively it could be quite interesting. While I don't think you could do both sides of the same specific battle, having overlaps would be cool. If one side has an invasion mission, the other sides take on it would be an evacuation mission. You do one mission where a bomb goes off across the map, you do the counterpoint mission where you are the ones planting it.

If you read the Killzone histories on Killzone.com, you'll see that the Helghast goal is too eventually retake Vekta, the "Eden" that was taken away from them originally.

I'd LOVE to see that happen. Halghast ftw.

I have to say...out of everybody that i've seen play, including TTP, that I am the better player. I play so differently from them.

I wish I had a decent video capture card without a delay.

here's where CS comparisons are valid in this game, regarding the use of sights ;)

Wow, really? That's pretty weird... The game felt laggy so maybe I was lagging or something. I didn't team kill at all but I did dominate extremely so that mighta been it. ;) 4:1 K/D Ratio, bitches. :D

Edit: On the topic of sights, I use them exclusively. I don't really get how people don't use sights with some of the guns. The default weapon has a fucking red reticle showing where you're going to hit - how much easier can it get? It's like as if Guerrilla is saying, here - we are going to give you this red dot so you know precisely you're shooting and people are like fuck you guys, I don't need it - I'm too good. :lol Me, I'll use it every single time and usually I'll win. Earlier I was playing the market map and I pulled off a head shot from one side of the map to the other side. I didn't even see the guy - everything was blurry because of the distance between us but with the red reticle and his red goggles, i was capable of aligning up and taking him out. The weapons don't have a distance limit on them really and will travel across the whole map (depending on weapon obviously).

OT but I think this game is going to make me take the plunge into HD gaming. Just to clarify the all 80g PS3s have software backwards compatibility right? Just not sure if I want to take a chance on a used 60g.

Pretty bit thing for me because I've never owned a Sony system.

The MGS4 bundle 80GBs have b/c. The newer ones that are out now for $399 do not.

Really? Will the new 80gig units play the original KZ?

No I mean having the player take the role of a Helghan soldier, push back against the ISA, retake the ground captured by the ISA in Killzone 2, then lead the fight back to Vekta where they basically re-do the Killzone 1 scenario but with the player on the other side of the fight

I'm not aware of a game with a complete protagonist change like that and the Helghast are pretty awesome so I'd like to see it

That sounds really bad ass actually but I would prefer to have two separate campaign where you replay from each side and actually play a role in which you are capable of winning the war itself or losing it.

kenta said:
Eh? Do you mean the one with ironsights instead of the scope?

No, the default assault rifle - the first gun you have available to you and the first one on the list. I've taken out people from across the map with that gun a couple times. On a somewhat related note, the uzi-like gun is a POS :lol I don't think anyone uses that thing...

This game looks absolutely amazing. I just hope for the Campaign mode's sake that there are different type of environments :(

Yeah I didn't know for sure if they took software BC out of all PS3s or just the 40s. Thought the 80 still had it. huh that makes this a little more interesting. Might have to go the ebay/craigslist route and gamble.

Man, this screengrab I just nabbed (video isn't mine though) is practically art. Check out the amazing filters happening along with the lighting and motion blur applied in real time:

And a GIF to follow:

The things this engine can do at once just puts this game on a totally different level.

I hope Guerilla take a strong stand on the Helghast thematically. They should either be grim space nazis or the game should play up that they are (part-)human, and accentuate that some of them are decent people marginalized by a dictatorship.

Going by KZ: Liberation, they're more like super villains (wearing capes!). I think the story would be more compelling if they were just unrelentingly dark... with gas chambers and torture rooms and stuff. It would be especially effective given this engines ability to render dirt and dust and grime with shocking detail.

Don't you remember the intro to KZ1 where they're lining people up on their knees and 1 guy would go down the line shooting them point blank in the head? They're extremely evil.

Heh... I didn't play the PS2 game, but that's good news. Hopefully, life on their home planet is even more disturbing.

Where I'm kind of going with this is we've had 1000 WW2 games, but very few really touch the unique horror of the Nazi regime. Instead, they play up the band of brothers crap. A sci-fi setting, allows the game to visit some of those issues without hitting close to home for some people.

Just played with some Gaffers. Good stuff, guys - like the team work and I appreciate the revivals! Don't remember who it was but me and another guy were battling for to spot. Game was a joke though, I was lagging out the arse and couldn't aim at all the whole match. Didn't help that they just swarmed the entry points but what are you going to do. I couldn't use plan b which involved blowing people's brains with the shotty since it was disabled. :(

i don't see why people use sights for anything more than half a map away

*core were you Runner? I had a NGAF guy on my squad who nabbed the top spot from me :P

Yeah, that was me. :) Good stuff, man. Thanks for the revives :lol I use sights everywhere I go - it's just easier for me to aim but I guess everyone has their own preference.

Edit: I played like most of the round without sights and kept fucking up so I just went back to them. The whole entry point rushing thing puts me off and makes me go rambo some times.

How are the shadows in this game?

Everything that should cast fucking shadows cast fucking shadows, REAL shadows, not some fucking blob shit that fades in and out or some fucking baked bullshit shadow maps that does nothing to your gun and other characters on screen. It's got better shadows in MP than the SP of every one of those so-called fucking "AAA" console shooters that sites like gametrailers and 1UP would hype.

too bad no one else really had squads running. Kitton and them destroyed our unorganized team but we had our moments :)

Yeah, I really dig the whole squad spawning aspect. There are so many refreshing and unique ideas that make the game really shine. I didn't even really utilize squad respawning until today when someone kept talking about it on the mic :lol. Goddamn I love this game - I just wish you guys stayed in for 1 more round. :lol

So does it live up to the hype or what? :)
