Apparently you didn't read that thread.

Or this one.

Do you have uncircumcised penises hanging out of where your eyes should be?

Because Gears 2 may not be a great looking game but it's at least a good looking game. While R2 has all the visual trappings of the kind of viscous sludge you'd find stuck in the skin hood of an uncircumcised, unwashed, post coital penis.
The man is either an idiot, a pervert, or both. He never misses a chance.

On the contrary, I remember Mickey's comments quite clearly. He's a very eloquent shit talker when it comes to Resistance. Stands out against the typical "where are my weapons wheelz" blither blather.

Really, though, we're talking about Killzone in this thread, so it was both his and my fault for even bringing it up.

Eloquent?

Because "this game looks like an uncircumcized penis" is so much better than "Insomniac should have included a weapon wheel." It's interesting for maybe three posts until you just get sick of it.

Bit of sarcasm for you; maybe I should've italicized it or something.

Okay, so about that one Killzone game...

I'm writing an article on the Killzone 2 beta, but I'm having a brain fart. If my memory serves me correctly (I don't feel like going downstairs and turning on the ps3, lol), you can form up to six squads per team, right? If I recall correctly that is the case, but logic tells me that it's not, since it would make little sense to have any more than four squads per team, seeing as four squads of four would be perfect for a full 16 man team.

Though I suppose you could do four squads of three and two squads of two, or something...

I haven't really been following the information coming out about KZ2 but I have some questions for you guys:

  • Does the destructible envrioments actually alter the way stratergies are formed in MP? Or is it simply to make it look cool and not affect gameplay?
  • Have GG promised there will be DLC?
  • Have GG said how many maps will be avilable in the final game yet?

4 squads of 4, but for some reason it does seem like they offer a lot more squads (like six). not sure why, perhaps it allows people to split up into smaller sized squads

-From what I've seen, it rarely has a drastic impact on strategy. But it sure is pretty. I suppose a beta tester can clarify :p
-Basically, yes. Even talk of coop being implemented somewhere down the line
-8, I believe?

  • The destructible environments in MP seem to be mostly superficial, outside of the rare case like the sandbags in Salamun market, or the pillars in Radec Academy. They'll be able to do a LOT more with destructibility in SP.
  • Yes, there will be DLC. Extensive DLC, from what I hear.
  • Eight maps.

Edit: To clarify, the pillars in Radec are very wide until the tiles start falling off. Then they become much narrower, so if you were hiding behind one you'll have to move to another.

It can. It affects whether or not you can take cover behind something. Like, the pillars in the academy - the more they get torn up the less cover you have behind them. Same thing with the wooden shutters/boards in Blood Gracht. There's several other things you can take cover behind that can be destroyed and moved too.

Have GG promised there will be DLC?
I'm sure there will be plenty. This game cannot and will not be ignored.

Have GG said how many maps will be avilable in the final game yet?
On the Killzone site you can edit your profile to say what multiplayer map is your favorite. They're numbered and such. I don't remember if that's on the beta site or not so I won't give any info on that. Suffice to say there's more than 5 ;)

It allows up to 6 squads.

Im guessing to give a little room so people arent forced to join the last squad when they want to be the leader. For other reasons too...

European journalists are playing the first 5-6 chapters, from what I understand. There's an embargo until December 4th.

cool, I have a feeling the campaign is very scripted, and if I remember correctly reviewers are very harsh on that aspect of gameplay, except for COD for some reason.

I hope the campaign turn out very good....

there are nothing wrong with scripted campaigns

wait, IGN slammed a couple of games (I think the first KZ too) for having a very scripted single player......but I hope they don't get too strict with this game.

aaaaahhhwwww, cute

Back to the subject, i was NOT trying to start a battle ..i was just interested in what people thought overall with Killzone2's visuals from the beta compared to the best looking game currently.. which is Crysis. I've played Crysis maxed at 1920x1080 on my HTPC.. i have a ps3..i LOVE visuals on any system, and wanted some insight, that was it...from screenshots of the gif's..it LOOKS just as impressive but then again, they are just gif's ... but overall from my own perspective..i think KZ2 gives Crysis a run for its money....so does Gears2 imho ..in their "own" ways...wondered what others thought, thats all

The PS3 is obviously not a DX10 high end PC with 4GB RAM, no console is. There's no point trying to compare anything on console to Crysis.

Gears of War 2 does NOT in a MILLION FUCKING YEARS give Crysis a run for its money.

Gears of War 2 does NOT give Killzone 2 a run for its money either, because it can't even do fucking proper shadows (outside of characters and very few objects) in MP WITH FEWER PLAYERS, SMALLER MAPS, AND LESS INTERACTIVITY, technically it's not even in the same league, heck it doesn't even do proper shadows in SINGLE PLAYER.

Oh thats just silly... lol calm down for one!.. we are discussing videogamezzzzzzzzzz! :lol

ALso, thats just your opinion (and i have mine) and dx10 has NOTHING to do with it... play Crysis in dx9 then play it in dx10 (dx10 is not all that)..not a whole lot of difference there pal so right there that greatly hinder's your opinion's creditability..your either are:

1. A pc fanboy that cant let go of the fact that PC games are no longer producing the most stunning looking games.

2. Your just pissed off a 200 to 400 dollar console rival graphics that of a 1000 dollar+ PC setup...

There's many many guys like you around boards like here at Gaf..i deal with them all the time..its nothing new

Seriously, i can think of ALOT of games that give Crysis a run for its money and im one sitting here with a PC setup that probably is faster then your own with my nice but hardly used gaming pc rig... Qx9650@4.6ghz, 4gbDDR3 ram, EVGA9800GX2... my friend, i KNOW what good graphics look like.. .Gears of War2 GIVES Crysis a run for its money..you can sit there and cry FOUL PLAY ALL NITE AND DAY..and it wont change my stance on that... you know why? Because i run into people3 like you ALL THE TIME... pc fanboys that just refuse to let in to consoles...being better at something PC's once use to be KING at with every title the pc platform could spit out.

We are talking one pc exclusive game in the last two years that even takes advantage of my pc hardware.. Crysis, i dig my pc gaming but alot of us moved on pal

Look..your the one that got all hostile lol ...i wouldnt of said squat until you came with this BS...

PS> Welp, time to move on from this thread because the PC schmucks are all riled up now.. and i did NOT even try to start any of this..its you PC fanboys that are always the aggressive fucks

Shit, I would pay good money to think consoles looked as good as Crysis.
Maybe I'll borrow your eyes for a bit.

Maybe he just realizes that ummm.......
PC's videocards are a few generations above what the ps3 had.
The avg ram nowadays is 1gig on just about every system.

Only thing in ps3 that beats pc's is the cpu and that's debatable.

I have yet to see an Intel CPU that can decode 12 hd streams simultaneously.

If you're talking about the PS3's thumbnails, those are like 320x240 animations that it generates per video (and that you can generate them from a chosen starting point if you wish).

I am categorically not talking about thumbnails and previews.

I am saying that decoding a single HiDef Video Stream fully in software to play an HD video. Its extremely processor intensive and doing ONE stream is already taxing on a CPU. Doing 12 is unheard of simply due to the vast quantity of CPU power required. Specialized video hardware is needed to do something like that normally.

Yea but when it comes to general purpose processing....there are cpu's that can defeat the CELL.

Therefore...debatable.

So are those supposed to be bad textures?, Because judging by that GeOW photo thread this looks ridiculously beyond......

The textures are great in KZ2; nothing looks out of place. It's not shiny for the sake of being shiny, and the lighting effects allow shiny surfaces to show during certain moments.

In terms of texture detail, Gears 2 has the benefit of being in third person.... They aren't any better than what KZ2 has. Frankly, I wasn't all that impressed with the way Gears 2 looked. Phenomenal game, but it looked like a well made UE3 title and not much more. Flat lighting, not many post processing effects, mediocre animation, no AA (though, they use some other technique I believe). Uncharted really does look significantly better with its lighting and animation.

KZ2 is just in another league entirely though.

Preface: I am not impartial. I've helped out on coding software components for IBM and my brother in law worked on both the X360 CPU and the Next Gen Designed Cell processor.
(Funny huh? Same guy worked on both chips.)

Cell demo decoding 48 Non HD Video Streams.

There's an HD Equivalent demo in Japan.

Edit: Here's an English video link:
