I'm with Pojo on this one. I live in a dorm room with 3 other guys, so I rarely have time to play by myself. If a game doesn't have 4 player splitscreen of some variety, it doesn't stay in the PS3 for long. Right now we're stuck playing Battlefront 2 and Rock Band 2.

You're sitting there asking us why my Thanksgiving dinner doesn't have cranberry sauce, telling us cranberry sauce is essential for Thanksgiving. We're telling you to shut up about cranberry sauce because the turkey is freaking awesome and nobody cares about cranberry sauce

Get off the cross, dude
This is turkey we're talking about. Don't be naive, split screen multiplayer is and has been a staple for a long, long time.

"Wizards" don't need to sacrifice goats; what with being magical and all that.

We all know why you guys didn't do split-screen: you hate Pojo.

TO YOU. It's been a staple TO YOU, and this thread is filled with people on the other side of that fence who just don't care about it and don't want to hear you bitch about it because there's nothing WE can do about it

Resistance 2 has split screen multiplayer?

From JStevenson

We have two-player split screen online which we feel gets you much more of the Resistance 2 MP experience.

I dunno about you, 2 player split screen online >>>> 4 player offline running around those giant maps.

Does it suck that it won't have splitscreen? Yes
Would I want them to sacrifice ANYTHING visually to make that happen? FUCK NO!!

IS IT SO HARD?

Keep in mind it's still a beta and three months from release, compared to other RETAIL games it's actually really good, the other retail games like SOCOM and R2 really don't have an excuse, they shouldn't be so unprepared.

I recommend adding Warhawk and Motorstorm PR to the collection.

Not to mention LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm Pacific Rift. The three of those games alone have so much content and replayability it's nuts. Now let us eat this delicious single-player turkey already

Pojo why do you continue when the majority of this thread dont care? Head over to the official Playstation forums and you might get lucky on why.
The game is like a shooter from the 16bit days. One ship versus the galaxy. You pack your balls tight, kiss your gal goodbye and open the engines at full thrust. You take the love head on and dont look back.

I don't expect you to get it, but the multiplayer games themselves from the last decade absolutely prove my point.

And yes, I now understand why they couldn't add it. But don't try to tell me that it hasn't been a staple. It's something that people expect, which is why it' surpsising to not have the option.

I agree with you. I'm disappointed that Killzone 2 doesn't have split screen, but I'm INCREDIBLY more disappointed that Resistance 2 doesn't have four player split...even though the first one did.

STOP TAKING AWAY OUR SPLITSCREENS DEVS! I don't care how downgraded it has to be, given the small windows it shouldn't really matter all that much anyways.

And now you've thrown this beta our way – surely yet another wily piece of propaganda, you trickster dickster! Sure, we're pushing buttons, wiggling analogue sticks - and stuff is happening on screen as a result – but this isn't the actual game, surely! There's no way a console game can look this good, right - what sort of foul wizardry is this?

This can't be real. It simply can't be. Sony and Guerrilla Games couldn't have created an end result that (almost) matches the infamous target footage revealed at E3 all those years ago. Could they?

Well, unless our dainty little peepers are deceiving us, the answer to that question is 'yes'.

Wow...

And I finished ahead of you in todays game MemoryCure!!!! BOOSH!

Anyway, thank god it doesn't have splitscreen. It would just ruin things. And I'll never understand how someone wants to play an FPS in a screen divided in half and messed up ratio.

EDIT: Thank you for answering that. Now the rest of you can stop assaulting me because I pointed out a missing feature in your messiah.
The reason people are arguing with you isn't because you'd like to have splitscreen. It's because you think not having splitscreen makes the game completely unworthy of purchase. Given the fantastic look of the singleplayer and the stellar impressions of multiplayer, that seems a bit of an overreaction.

actually, it's pretty fun. especially when drunk. Try this game.

Play split-screen co-op in R1. Take a shot whenever you die.

Trust me. One of the most fun you'll ever have =D

The lack of split-screen is indeed annoying.

It's not like you're going to play 1v1 games - the game has bot support for crying out loud.

Isn't the game practically finished? Surely they could squeeze in split-screen as the game is being released in Feb. Resistance 2 has got split-screen and was released in a year.

Killzone 2 doesn't and has been in development for four years and has had over 150 people working on the game.

Fucking great.

Still buying K2, but so disappointing that hardly any games feature this feature. There is so much emphasis on online play these days apparently local play doesn't matter at all.

Warzone' is essentially a gametype that makes absolute mincemeat of your free time. As the rolling gametypes flow one into the next, it's almost too easy to drift towards the tight rhythmic beat of Killzone 2's drum and forget about the outside world. Mark our words – plenty of marriages, relationships, university projects, etc, will no doubt fall victim to the 'one more round' lure of Killzone 2's multiplayer.

Ha! I couldn't get up in time for my lectures this morning exactly because of that.

That being said, it's hard to see how anyone could deny the sheer technical achievement of the game. No online shooter in the console market could possible claim to look better than Killzone 2, or feature more atmosphere and eye for detail. We get the distinct impression that Sony, after the guffawing of the gaming community post-E3 2005, demanded that Killzone 2 match up to that infamous CG trailer - regardless of the development time or expense. What we're seeing and playing today is the end result of that self-righteous rage, and we absolutely love it. We reckon you'll be pleasantly surprised by just how well Killzone 2 looks and plays. Haters be damned – you'd all best be prepared to chow down on a hefty serving of humble pie on this one...

One of the most positive previews I've ever seen...

Man i dont know if it was my connection or what but that server was laggy as hell for me.
I did alright with the 1st match. Me and FFObssessed went toe to toe with our scoring for a while, then I became a target and I had to sit in a corner for a while so i couldnt get kills.

But that 2nd match, wtf...
Disappearing people, only to reappear next to me, shooting me in the ear. I kept being spawned on the squad leader which was FFO, and he was at the base sniping so it kept frustrating me.

That last match, i had to just quit. Couldnt take it no mores!
It was awesome to play with 5+ neogaf players at a time though. A squad full o Gaffers :D

I still had more objective points than FFO anyways! :lol

R2 has the proper aspect ratio when using split screen. Just saying...

I haven't expected it since the first Halo. Get another system and tv if you want to play with friends at your house.

I agree with both of you, I can't help but feel some of my hype just died down a bit for this game, I'll still buy it though, but it's not Day 1! OMG! anymore.

"hile we're pretty confident that fans of the more 'realistic' Call of Duty 4 will take to Killzone 2 like the proverbial duck to water, we're unsure how fans of precise, technical shooters like Halo will adapt. We thoroughly enjoyed the realistic handling of Killzone 2's weapons of mass destruction, swaying recklessly as we struggled to make the shots, but we have a sneaky feeling that those used to a steady reticule will possibly get frustrated in this regard. It could be a very clear case of gamers either loving or hating the feel of Killzone 2.
"

I don't see how Halo 3 is a precise, technical shooter when it has so much auto-aim.

Killzone 2 is far more of a precise, technical shooter. If you hate the feel of Killzone 2, you haven't adjusted to it yet. The movement in other games now feels sterile in comparison.

Yes, it's been very laggy as of late, and the Killzone site is down too. I didn't even play today cause yesterday, I logged over six hundred points, and none of them counted. >_>

How about sacrificing whiney Gaffers? Would that work? No? Can you sacrifice them anyway?

Yeah in the second game I was thinking "hmm probably shouldn't have been the squad leader if I'm going to be sniping!" :p It wasn't too laggy for me but it was an EU server wasn't it? So I'd have been ok.

I love the little squads because it's just nice to know when your friends are dying and such, keeps you feeling connected.

I still had more objective points than FFO anyways! :lol

Yeh but I had more kills and less deaths... and less teamkills lolololololol BOOOOOOOOOOSH!

:lol It was a good little rivalry. Every so often I'd check the score board and think "oh no you don't!" Then I started trying even harder. Good fun.

So you're ok with not having split screen, even when it seems like all of the 360s big games have it?

This is the sole reason I'm even buying World at War, because I have nothing to play on the PS3 when my friends come over. We're all sick of Resistance 1 and CoD4.

What is the reason for not including it? The graphics are too good? It's been a fundamentla staple since Goldeneye to have multiplayer on console FPSs.

Split screen online is good, but that begs the question...why no splitscreen offline?

I don't read the official KZ forums, but perhaps it's better to raise issues there so the community managers can make a list of stuff people really want. (People do seem to want a lot)

To be honest, I don't really recall split-screen multiplayer being high on our own early feature wishlist. And I'm no tech coder (always nice to listen to their tech ramblings though), so I couldn't tell you if there were specific issues with splitscreen and, say, deferred rendering.

Anyway, want splitscreen, or anything else - the more people making a noise about it on the official forums, the more likely it'll get included.

---

On another note, if you get a Session Master not Found error for more than 30 seconds, it's better to leave the game. Chances are the game will be totally out of synch if it even manages to assign another session master. No idea when it'll be fixed.

Great game guys, although I am still far from ruling the place :D
This is just soooo addicting and seeing so many of us in one game really adds to the experience.
Just read the IGN preview and have to state that GG really nailed the controls - it feels alive, in a way...

Can you explain to me why the Session Master error's even occur? Is this game using a form of p2p, because it doesn't feel as smooth as Resistance 2's online play which is near flawless in terms of netcode

KZ2 still has auto-aim though. Which is why you can pull off kills with an M82 on a target which you can barely see. It's also better to shoot in very short bursts "tap-tap-tap-tap" to increase auto-aim help, and reduce recoil effect.

The Session Master crashed and a new session master has to be chosen. I'm not sure what the exact issue is with finding a new session master, but when all of the crashes have been fixed you won't encounter this issue that often anymore. Seems to be fine if the session master just quits the game normally.

Well the auto-aim is much less noticeable than Halo 3 or Resistance 2. I don't feel like my reticule magnetically locks on to every moving target.

But it seems to me like if they were using dedicated servers then there would be a dedicated session master? Unless session master is only referring to the person who created the room.

Of all the issues I want ironed out more than anything else, it's nothing major, just getting the netcode/lag/session master stuff ironed out so the experience runs smoother.
