Okay well I'm generally the first to bitch about hentai voice-overs for games but honestly KZ2's VAs suit the game just fine. Like someone said, you're fighting with soldiers, not actors.

And I must say, the voices/lines for the Helghans are AWESOME. The mini-boss with his "Fuck!" and "Time to die!!" is done really well, and the Helghans running toward you from that ramp saying "This is Visari's Planet!". Good stuff, really like it.

Just got back from work. Watched 1 whole video......stunning. This destroys anything I've ever seen done on consoles.

Some slowdowns/frame drops aside and other minor issues which are clearly going to be fixed (like voice over), Killzone 2 is a rollercoaster of a shooter.

What I liked the most (technicalities aside as vids speak for themselves) is how non-linear the approach to firefight is. On the one side, you have the AI acting unpredictably so everytime you re-do the same fight, it actually plays out differently (Video 01 shows this quite clearly when I repeat the last section after dieing). On the other side, levels are designed so that you can change approaches to the same confrontation quite radically. You can see this in one of the Welcome vids when I go upstairs while Garza stays down near the stairs. I have three options there. Shooting from above. Use the turret. Turn the corner ahead and go down the stairs to hit the HGHs from behind. There are many situations with such tactical freedom.

I also liked the Lean & Peak mechanics and overall controls. Coming from two online beta phases I got used to the standard configuration and it kinda makes more sense with the L&P mechanic in place. Anyway, L&P works pretty well. You push L2 to crouch, and if you are close to something, you stick to it as long as you keep L2 presses. What I liked about this is that you never feel "trapped" when you are behind cover. On the one side, you are free to slide and peak in any direction you want. But you can also rotate 360° no problem (gun automatically points ahead when there is no wall). So I don't feel too "scared" about being attacked from the side. And being it a Hold rather than Toggle thing, you cannot fuck it up when detaching yourself from cover to get behind another one. It works really, REALLY well. To the point that I seriously think I wouldn't mind having the option to use it online as well.

What I liked the less are changes occurred to some levels. Especially how Visari Square looks now. IMO, it's too bright and colorful. Blue pavement, orange lights and greenish structure in the background? I liked the darker version more. I hope GG is not too afraid of the B/W stigma and adding colors to avoid it.

As for my "quick fix", I'd suggest adding more flying drones. They are criminally underused IMO. In the first 6 levels at least. In Resistance 2, flying drones are very cleverly used to spice things up and force you to swap from ground-to-ground to ground-to-air combat. And move from cover to cover. Not so in KZ2. In the preview code levels. Perhaps shit hits the fan later.

Very nice some real impressions.

Yea I am definitely not digging the new look for Visari Square and some of the character models definitely look worse. Rico's voice is fucking AWFUL lol

Am I the only one who likes the new look of Visari square?

When they first showed the game I was fine with the lack of color but now that they've added it I think makes the environment pop.

So SP is the same as MP then? One primary weapon and one secondary weapon (aka pistol) right?

I kind of wish you could carry around two major weapons in SP....

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. I preferred the look of the E307 level opening and overall lighting effects.

Mr. Fucking convoy does not look cool anymore.
Garza looks different.
Rico looks a bit different compared with the E308 videos

The voices have gone 100 times worse.

The character detail is slightly downgraded.. the faces in particular.

They've changed the dialogue for the worst.

Rico:
Time To Die >>>> LEETSS GOAAAAAAAOOOOO. He sounded like a Korean then.

Honestly, I HATE to see a game video where the initial videos look better than the latter ones. The E307 video just looks more exciting (That segment of the level).

Have they also removed many Helghast to kill? I remember there were far more Helghast to shoot and kill. Now it seems like you run straight to the bridge and blow it up.

The game looks amazing, and I will still get, but am 'slightly' disappointed by the videos. They've removed quite a few of the stuff from what it looks like.

I don't think the game has the same atmosphere and texture anymore ...... and by texture i'm not talking about texture quality, I'm talking about the texture of the overall look and feel of the environments.

Visari Square looks completely different, unrecognizable even. I'm not sure if I like it more... or less than before.

Hmmm, I really don't see it--it still looks really hectic.

iirc the e3 video had a film grain filter and the new now it doesn't could that have anything to do with how you feel?

It seems like they reduced some of the post processing effects. The game looks a bit cleaner.

But the lighting and atmosphere was completely different in the E307 video to be honest.

When dropped into Visari Square it doesn't appear that the game is nearly as busy or chaotic either. Looked like there were more players onscreen, more particle/smoke/wind/fire effects and just an overall busier scene .....

Check this out for comparison http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24242.html

And yes, where is the amazing post-processing/grain? That's what made the game stand out! It was a great aesthetic choice! Why does this game look a little more like fucking Resistance 2 now (that game sucks!)

The HELL no. One of the things I disliked from the E3 '07 video was the roughness of everyone's faces, and I'm not talking about their facial structure: back then, they looked low-poly and unpolished. Now, everyone looks much better and cleaner...more polished. I agree that the scene lost its intensity somewhat, but that's audio-related.

They need to desaturate it a bit perhaps, but it's not bad. I do really dislike that Visari square tho. I just don't like being there, looking at those bright white textures under a frigging helghan storm, the captain submerged in orange glow. And that structure in the background (dunno the english word for it), the one that looks like two converging spikes. It's of a very bright green compared to the dark background. A punch in the eye. That whole level felt like it missed a lighting pass or two to me.

Downgradeton confirmed.

Are you guys for fucking REAL? I mean, fine, they added more contrast to the overall visuals in terms of colors and whatnot and you don't like it 'cause you guys like it all rough and darky, but there's no denying this game has never looked better TECHNICALLY than how it looks in this preview build.

damn dude .. i keep looking at these two videos side by side and I'm sorry to say, but the Visari Square sequence has been drastically changed and visually, it's been changed for the worse IMO>

I feel a little disappointed. I wanted to play the game in that first video - been looking forward to it for a while ... where is all the wind and the post processing? The world used to look so much more alive and threatening - wtf

Even the shotgun – that staple of the FPS genre – just isn't that compelling. This thing doesn't feel like raw death in your hands. It feels like slapping someone with wet newspaper. Slapping them very very hard with a semi-automatic newspaper, of course, but a slap nonetheless.

Lol

They need to add the post-processing effects, wind, blur and the Helghast in the area to make it more chaotic.

I preferred the gritty look of this game to be honest. It is still the best looking console game, but Visari Square looks SO sterile in comparison with the E307 video.

What's funny is that it still does look like the old setting when they land. very dark, busy, windy, dirty. But as soon as you get to look ahead, it's like being teleported into a Teletubbies episode.

So TTP: are the post-processing effects just straight up gone now?

I dunno. It's all in the vid man. It sure looks like something is missing to me.
I don't care about effects. I just want it back from Disneyworld.

I agree, and that's where the problem lies. When you got a bunch of nuckle heads on forums, and at game site screaming more color, you divert the Developer from their original vision to make some whiney game enthusiasts happy. The end result, is that it doesn't look as spectacular as the original. With that said, playing the Beta I feel the graphics are still fucking phenominal.
