look at f.e.a.r. 2 screenshots to judge for yourself. but to me, f.e.a.r. 2 doesn't really stand out in the visuals department -- looks pretty much on par with other big shooters on the market. killzone 2 is a standout game -- the lighting and effects are a huge step forward.

I've been lucky enough to play through multiple builds of Killzone, and the one that I got yesterday showed great improvement over the one I received a month ago. The framerate was a bit unstable in the earlier build, and the AI wasn't too great. The newest build has much more intense enemy AI -- although your partners leave a lot to be desired. Considering Guerrilla has two more months to polish the game, I'm pretty damn excited.

Yeah, that's one area that really looks improved, the AI. With the latest batch of media, that AI looks pretty aggressive at times. I've seen the G4 video where the person playing was hiding behind a pillar reloading when a Helghast went right up to him firing away. I've also seen Helghast run away (and quickly) from a thrown grenade. Gonna have to cook those babies before tossing em towards the enemies. And nice write up also!

Fear 2 lacks the absolutely insane lighting, deferred rendering, and criminal amounts of post processing effects. Who knows though, Monolith have been super quiet, and we haven't heard a single thing about their multiplayer.

How is using an updated version of Cell (which is ironically backwards compatible with PS3, PS2, and Xbox 360 and easier to code for), adding a decent amount of memory, and including a mid level GFX card complicated?

KZ2 looks great in stills, and EVEN BETTER in motion.

How FEAR 2 will upend it is a mystery. Anyways, KZ2 is out in less than 90 days.


EDIT: I just realized that FEAR 2 is going to be released even earlier than KZ2. February 10th 2009.

The game will be fuck awesome, but from when I played it, I remember it being a visual tour de force. Than again I haven't played Killzone 2, so I can't compare, but both games have both aesthetic and artistic differences that are miles apart. Killzone 2, from the vids looks >>>>>>>>>>>>>>. The fanboys will moan and bitch, while the rest of the sane world will appreciate the games for what they are.

I'd like to think they could easily get a Killzone 3 out on PS3 within two years. The hardest work of building the engine and tech is done. I'd like to see the game take place back on Vekta again. That planet had such an awesome diversity of locations like snowy mountains, murky swamps, rain soaked beachfronts, etc.

It looks pretty good, but I was more impressed by the Riddick Dark Athena trailer than what I've seen on Fear 2. Atleast visually. Either way lots of awesome FPS games are on the horizon.
 
Whoever was playing in that clip seemed soooo bad. Wtf, can that person not tell where they were getting shot? I've never seen the interface and could tell he/she was getting shot from behind and that they shouldn't be running out like that.

Other than the irksome playing, everything looked AMAZING. Cept the ragdolling of the bodies after getting hit by the gun, not realistic enough (but thats just me).

Call me crazy but I don't think Monolith are expecting to get big sales on the PS3 anyway. PC's probably their target market for it.

No it doesn't, imo. But we're also talking about a game being made for multiple platforms that has to take that into account, versus a game being optimized and tailor made specifically for the PS3. The reason Killzone 2 is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else is because its one of the hanfdul of games that attempt to take advantage of the Cell processor. (This is in no way a diss to the Xbox 360, since I think there's a ton of power under that hood that devs have been shortcutting their way around).

All that PR spin about Cell being 4d, more powerful than the 360 - etc etc etc- might have some shadow of validity. The PS3 is only beginning to show its muscle on the competition. Killzone 2 is proof that the PS3 is more powerful than the Xbox 360, but more importantly, the design decisions made with the PS3 weren't a complete and total disaster. THATS why Killzone 2 has that last level of hype, following, and burden on this forum.
 
i think they could do two things to make the flamethrower better. make the stream brighter, and give the stream more pressure.

I think they should give it more contrast with sparks and asssplosions going everywhere when you fire! That would be sweeeeeeeet. ^_^
Edit: It should also make this noise when you fire: "Kappooshhhhhhhhhhhh---fffff"
 
the screenshot of the multiplayer menu from like 6 months ago still blows me away. How much depth there is on that menu. As long as they havent changed it, im happy
 
Kinda wish I hadn't seen that part where the guy goes flying past the guys on the ship in the Landing video. It would have been such a cool wtf?! moment while playing the game.

That was shown at Leipzig but I am feeling a little spoiled after watching everything else. I'm putting myself on a blackout.

it's funny how sony gets ragged on SO much re E3 'trailers' on a debut of there new system .... but for pS2, and now again for PS3 (i forget ps1 launch details) they have been pretty fucking spot on.

makes me wonder why all the cynics come out again and again, and labour it so much ..when they should know better.... you'd think they'd learn ..
