About how Sony should ban EGM/1up/Edge from reviewing PS games.

That is absurd, now please we must take the thread to the right path again.....please people I need more info and media etc etc.

on a side note, Che....I Read EGM since before steve harris left, where is he now?

Some of you GAFFers need to be shot. You guys personally insult journalists just because you disagree with their opinion. Freiking ridiculous the extent you people go to defend a game.

There are only three reasons for why someone would have such a highly-vested interest in a title's Metracritic score:

a) They are a paid cronie for a publisher (ie. chespace), whose job is to ensure that the game scores as highly as possible for all the different review aggregates

b) Same as the above, only it's just for "pretend" (ie. Wollan)

c) They are an insecure fanboy seeking validation for their system of choice through higher Metacritic scores (ie. 90% of this forum)

For the rest of us free-thinking gaming radicals, we could hardly give two shits about what Nick Suttner of 1up.com thinks about a major upcoming title.
:lol

edit: I believe game journalists can be "attacked" through critique of their opinions. It isn't acceptable to call them fat or whatever. I don't think saying someone's preview lacks focus or is written poorly or doesn't articulate concerns/issues with the game well is out of bonds.

I thought she was ugly, I personally don't care what journalists or reviewers think when I buy my games, SOCOM Confrontation got terrible scores and I'm eventually getting that game.

Surprising though? Those same posers will personally insult each other for the same reason.

Hey, guys remember why we're here? We've got a few pages with no KZ2 pics or gifs.

Ahhhh, that's better.

in the latest 1up yours they have nothing but positive things to say about KZ2 and they say how everybody in the office was won over by it. I don't really blame them for being down on it at the start, considering what happened to KZ1

Wasn't that what people were doing?
He just said it was bad wording. He only quoted the one guy who made the comment when he made his (poorly worded) comment. Anyone with half a brain should have known he was talking to the people who make such heinous comments at gaf and not ALL of gaf, despite his poor choice of words.

I do find it interesting that he came under more attack than the guy who said that about that girl's appearance.

Not an entirely fair assessment. If one believed the Metacritic score would impact publishers, and their influence over game design decisions, it would be fair to say that person might worry any negativity could possibly affect future games and gameplay mechanics.

It's a stretch... as someone who likes realistic, tactical shooters... or hell, WW2 shooters is a better example... I love them. So it's very frustrating to see reviews take points off for the "Not another WW2 game" meme. Get enough of that, and you get discouraged publishers, and pressure to move away from future WW2 titles.

Just saying... not everyone is a pitiful fanboy. I don't really care very much about reviews, but I do get annoyed sometimes. Because scores do matter on some levels... otherwise publishers wouldn't go so far out of their way to secure good ones.

lol, opinions.

1UP is probably going to rate Killzone 2 highly regardlessly due to the nature of the hype surrounding it. Additionally, there are no other shooters coming out in that time frame, so when February comes, and they review the game, there's no competition to draw away from just how visceral and amazing (judging from the time I had spent with KZ2 beta) the game looks and plays.

On that note.

moar screens.

or maybe they're just upset that they feel the journalists, who's opinions have a more substantial effect than their own, seem to be underqualified. if a game gets panned by the game media, it can easily effect business decisions for that developer -- that can be a legitimate concern for fans of said developer/game.
Unqualified?

These guys make, what, $30k a year? Most of them are interns plucked straight out of the local Gamestop - the fact that they're able to structure semi-coherent thoughts is a miracle on its own.

I'm glad teammates are actually useful in this. It's nice they can bail you out from time to time and give the enemies something else to shoot at.

I think everyone would do well to stop giving 1UP any hits or attention over KZ. Honestly the last quality piece of writing 1UP produced was the Interview Jeff Green did right before he left. These sites are only really good for the video's and pictures they host and in 1UP's case gamevideos is too slow to matter.

I'm surprised at just how much better the campaign/sp graphics are compared to the mp... I mean I know most games scale the mp down a bit to keep framerate up, but those campaign KZ2 stills look amazing...

...actually they remind me of the garbage strewn earth of Wall-E...

listen to 1up yous, some people here are surprising me by how dumb they are

So, which are you supposed to go by? The negative preview? The negative 1up show comments? Or the positive comments on the podcast? Perhaps they shouldn't contradict themselves so much?

People who think scores don't mean anything, obviously haven't watched much TV with MS ads touting their game selection having "the highest rated games" as well.

It really needs to stop, concessions were obviously granted to Gears and Halo, and to extents, CoD4 (because it's multiplatform). It's just sad that they'd try so hard to attack a PS3 exclusive shooter like they have. Perhaps they're recovering from being a little shocked that other outlets haven't been as hard on the title as they expected, who knows.

We get it. The bar was set high by that original cg trailer, and how certain reps tried to pass it off as real time. But stop attacking GG for the effort and work they put into the game. You "journalists" reading these forums, you want games to be original and feel different, then you get a game that does, and puts a bit of realism in, then you tear at it for not being/feeling like CoD4 . Come on now.

There really isn't any dignity left in gaming journalism. Especially with all the fiasco's shown off, for example GS and that K&L trash, the ridiculous "gratuity bag" that reviewers got for H3 (i mean, that wasn't a mug of action figure in that bag only).

not you, but the people who are calling 1up stupid and insulting them. I read their preview and it seemed really positive, whats the problem, you guys are only looking at the negatives they thought the game had and not all the positive things they had to say.

first of all, I don't really see a problem with that preview you guys are throwing a fit over. That and Halo, Gears, and CoD all are sequels to good games, KZ1 wasn't that great so you can see why some people don't want to fall for the hype again. And that guy on the 1up show your taking about did say he like the KZ2 beta more then Gears 2 online. They are not going out of their way to bash the game or anything. Don't hate on 1up because they have some criticisms, just because they don't agree with your views dosn't make them unprofessional

Can you guys he keep going off topic pelase take this somewhere else?

Anyway at 3:00 was that Helghast trying to dodge the bullets? :lol

Is that when he ducked? I thought so too...pretty cool imo.

Late to the party: Why is he called Mr F***ing Convoy?

I had to watch the 1up segment due to how enraged it's gotten a lot of you guys in here. Yes they did some nitpicking but I think some of you are getting way to hung up on those little things. It's like the first time they said something negative you just stopped listening and got prepped to make an angry post about it. The overall tone of the segment was very positive and although they had minor issues with the game, it was obvious they realized they were minor and didn't let those issues get in the way of enjoying the game.

It seems like a lot of you are defending this game like it's the messiah and anything negative said is an unforgivable sin. Sorry to spoil it, but the game's not perfect.

Before we knew his name he could only be identified by the line, "That's the fucking convoy?" from one of the trailers.
Thanks for the info
Good to know that is not related to Microsoft Foundation Class (Nerd joke ;_;)

Exactly ,no game is perfect (Except Super Mario Bros 3 and Yoshis Island) every game has his little bugs and annoying things ,its no biggie.

Why would a bad first game have anything to do with your judgment of a sequel that is CLEARLY everything the first game tried to be plus a helluva lot more.

well if the first game was hyped to hell and didn't achieve it you can't expect people to be gushing as the aspect of a sequel, even if it is trying to be better. KZ2 will be an amazing game and when people get their hands on it their opinion will change (like 1up)

I like Super Mario World and it's a great game, but the overworld is a bit too cartoony. The graphic that represents your character looks like he was hit with a sledge hammer. It makes no sense. Also all of the enemies lack a soul.

I think Zelda a link to the past is a great game, but the environment isn't so destructible. It takes me out of the game. Also the way Link swing his sword is very odd and out of place. They need to fix this. The enemies feel lifeless and stiff.

Halo is a great game but did anyone else think the elites fell out of some child's coloring book? Green, purple, blue etc. it takes me out of the game. Also the enemies babble too much. They need to fix this.

You can't attack opinions, remember. I might not be signed up with 1up, but darn it my word is the same weight as theirs!

In that I tried to find something to nit pick those games with very hard. Hope I did a good job.

But the second game is said to be darn good (PSP game), and the hype was from journalists that got a scoop on Killzone and gave it the title Halo Killer to get hits, or sell magazine copies. Sensational titles aren't new, ask Kotaku.

The irony here is that the media was responsible for the excessive hype. Halo was a big, popular game at the time, as were the console battles, and they just couldn't help themselves from putting "Halo" and "Console Warz" in every article title and news story they could. Even if it was a stretch. Was their own damn fault it got hyped to hell and back.

Gaming media lacks perspective. Just the nature of it...

Silly question:
Anyone knows if the crosshair in KZ2 can be disabled?
