Sam, if it makes you feel any better... I sprayed like a lawn sprinkler when someone gets in close proximity to me too. I absolutely sucked when I first started playing the Killzone 2 Multiplayer beta. Someone would get close to me and my viewpoint would look like I was having a seizure. I think it had more to do with me not being used to using a console controller for an FPS. (I'm a keyboard and mouse guy)

After about 10+ hours of multiplayer I really got into the groove of things, though. The more you play (and play with GOOD players...) the better you get. Especially when you go and seek out a server with lower skilled players after playing with higher skilled guys for a while. You can really rack up the points, heh.

KILLZONE 2. Making people spray like lawn sprinklers since february 2009.

A lot of it is managing recoil, too; for instance, if you hold down the button for the assault rifle, the recoil will be magnified.

If you use shorter bursts, you will have steadier control. Once I did this, I had no problem with close-quarters aiming.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention that, thanks. That helped me tremendously to control myself at short range. It is also key for long range shots too. Taking a knee helps as well.

Just one. I basically leveled up by using bots and having one or two (or sometimes three) friends in the game. Even if they're all on the same side, you'll still get experience, though maybe that'll change on the live servers. It basically means you can still progress (albeit slowly) without needing a full game.

Interesting. If you're saying progress is slower doing that than playing in a full game of people, does that mean killing bots just gives you less EXP than usual?

Actually, that may have been part of the problem. When I was playing, it was with people that were either just starting out or were at General rank and obviously knew how to play with no in-between. The retail release will probably give a far better cross section of players too. Plus, there's always the issue of the normal... I dunno, "strikes 'n gutters" flow of games? When I was doing poorly, it was made that much worse by guys who would wipe the floor with me. When I was in the zone, I felt like the angel of death.

That's just sound advice for anyone playing the game. The single-player does a good job of teaching you this too, but yeah, burst-fire was one of the first lessons I picked up on, so no worries there.

I don't know if there's a difference in XP earned, but tight 8 vs. 8 (or bigger) games where you're working with other people to accomplish objectives together and piggypack off other players tend to be higher-scoring and -earning games. Also, I have to confess how amazing it is to see what looks like one of your teammates in a very wrong place and realize it's a disguised enemy and you can call 'em out right then and there. With bullets. It's neat.

*unrelated* I didnt want to make a thread about this since its far fetched, but Syphon filter might be in the works. Link

Ponder on that.

Anyway, with the amazing amazon.ca deal with visas coupon, i've been slowly selling my friend on this game. Each day I bring it up and tell him something cool about killzone, the amazon deal will make it a lot easier. I promise you he will have this game on launch day.

I will never understand why people stay up late into the night for demos. Wouldn't you rather wait until you wake up to download and have more energy for the day? I'm as anxious to play this as the next guy, but still...

Sounds fantastic. Shades of TF2. :D

Actually, I keep hearing Killzone 2's multiplayer described as a cross between CoD4 and TF2, which is a very intriguing mix indeed.

It is called, "when I get up I have to go to $someplace_my_ps3_isn't for 6+ hours."

They can sacrifice some of their sleep the evening before to play a demo and then go to work or school instead of having to wait till after school/work. :)

I don't have anything to do tomorrow so I'm crashing any minute now knowing that the demo will probably be ready to download when I awake.

Damn, I hope the KZ2 multiplayer is borked at least for one week; lets me finish the singleplayer without other players having a huge skill gap compared to me. :lol

The demo is SP only? Daym I was hoping multi, but it's not like I needed any convincing for multi, I just wanted to play it some more.

I'm having a hard time trying to decide whether or not to start playing multiplayer or do single player first. Crap it's like trying to make a decision between Scarlett Johansson and Kate Winslet.

...oh god, here I go spraying like a lawn sprinkler again.

Just to add to controller discussion. I had absolutely no problems with the controls. But that's not to say no one else will. With that said, saying that the controls are bad, and or docking points for it might be a personal thing. Maybe when reviewing the game, and your having trouble with the controls, how about passing the pad to a colleague are two. If you all agree that the controls suck then yeah maybe, but if your the only one struggling with the controls, then it just might be you.

Then again, if your a person that doesn't play shooters often you might have problems, but if you've been playing shooters all year like myself you should have the basics down to play any shooter. With that said, I do feel that the controls are very similar to COD4, especially the way you use the iron sights. I played the beta for a few hours before I knew you could even change the control scheme, after reading here that you can I tried different settings and I just couldn't play with any of them. The default is what I will be playing with come retail.

with all the BS reeves spews how can anyone take what he says serious

Actually, he has a lot of truth in much of that bs sadly, just like how he revealed the discontinuation of the 60GB in North America right after Jack and SCEA did the goodwill offering. :lol :lol

I take it the demo isn't up yet and shouldn't even waste my time trying to download it yet?

correct.

demo is likely to come out tomorrow at around 5-6 PM EST

we'll see though, could get put up on the euro store a bit earlier.

The reason content generally doesn't go live at midnight is because these things need to be monitored. In fact, any demos, themes, full games, etc. are up on the PlayStation store WAY in advance to them being available to everyone.

Why? To test them, of course. Not unlike standard game-testing (which I was doing last year) they have to make sure everything works before it goes online. Then, whomever is handling the "magic button" as some of you call it, presses it when they are 100%.

Still, I'm guessing that in some cases the content goes up and problems may arise, which is why this stuff happens when people are actually in office (typical work hours). If it was one guy at midnight, or even automated no one would be around to fix any potential errors.

I wonder what other developers think about KZ2 [ and later Uncharted 2 ] ... Especially Gabe Newell and JC ... Anybody has a chance for an interview with them ?..

Btw , I dont think demo will be up until 5 pm cet ...

Gabe is probably dressing up in his Iraqi Information Minister outfit getting ready to poo poo the fact the PS3 can output those kind of graphics.

some of you are way out of the line already, like Newell cares about what graphics the ps3 outputs.

Anyway, I can't find if anyone answered my last post (huge number of post in this thread and growing!)

Is the EU demo open to everyone?
